Oh man, at least the day I played was super windy and there is nothing on the top of that hill to cut down the wind.

So, I was thinking I was just doing to play a quick little short course real fast. NOPE, This course is located on top of a hill and it uses the elevation very well.

Up and down, up and down. But it was a GREAT use of the hills. Over shot or miss your putt on some of the holes are you looking at a long come back.

Oh, I should mention there are 2 baskets on each hole. A short DD Vet basket, and a Long Marksmen just to piss you off.

I will say this, there are tree's in the park, but they tend to be few and far between. I think the designer did a decent job on the course design. If he had tree's, he used them. If there were not a lot of trees, you had the elevation to deal with .

I must also say not every hole is just up and down, you do have some that are almost on level ground, but it may have a drop off or OB that will come into play.

One hole even has an OB area marked off between the short and long basket.

So, this course is kind of a pitch and putt, but with plenty of elevation or using baskets you got to be dead on to finish the hole.

Would I play here again? yea, I think I would. it was so windy when I played it and I had already played 5 courses before this including 2 that could be considered championship or pro courses. I was tired. I would like another shot at this and might even venture to play the marksmen baskets instead of the Vet baskets.

While shorter than the famous Water Works in Kansas City which is close by, it is definitely hillier. I really appreciated the long pins to make the course useful to a larger variety of ability.

City Park is a whole 18 that stays out of its own way while delivering an excellent short course.

Concrete tees are big enough for the distances on the course, a bench at every tee pad, along with a bi-lingual tee sign (English and Spanish).  Two baskets on each hole: a brand new Veteran in the short, and the long positions are a small-ring Marksman basket.  While I wouldn't want a competitive round on the Marksmans, they're perfect to add an element of difficulty.  Some of the pins are only 30 or so feet apart, so changing up the difficulty of the basket itself is a very creative solution.

Yard signs between the more difficult transitions are a huge help to keep you from searching around too much.

While only just breaking 4,000 feet of total distance and being fairly open, nobody will ever call this course "boring" due to all the elevation.  Big uphills and downhills off the tees (2 and 6 being the starkest, respectively) and the basket placements all over the hills.  3 on a berm, 5, 7, 14, and 17 all with rollaway potential. 10 and 11 with both baskets near a big drop off.  All there to create difficulty out of the land.

The tunnel shot on 15 is just difficult enough for the level of player the course is catered to.

The stairs leading from 18 to the parking lot are a great addition.

Somehow with the park being so small there are no conflicts with other park features, and the holes themselves barely endanger each other at all.

Who's bright idea was it to name a course "City Park?"  Searching for this course online could get difficult.

There are a few bland holes.  7, 9 and 16 are all quite open and bland and 1 and 17 are very easy to get around the obstacles.

The right side line on 4 through 8 and 11 is blocked by a decent size tree.  Newer players will be challenged, but maybe set the basket on the other side of the tree a few times.  In contrast, the left line is blocked on 17 and that's it.  It may not be wise to throw a left-finishing shot on 10 and 11, but the line isn't completely blocked by trees.  While it's good to force different lines, it needs to go both ways.

The last hole is very thin and full of rough.  The challenge is good, but the lost disc potential is way above the rest of the course.

Some massive transitions between holes.  5 to 6 is the worst, crossing way across the parking lot, then 7 to 8 and 12 to 13 crossing the road isn't great.

This is an excellent study in use of land and how to get a great course out of short holes, and then catering to an even higher level of player with the Marksman baskets just makes this a great spot for more people!  It's a short par-3-fest, but it's an extremely fun short par-3-fest.  Well worth your time if you want a quicker 18.

City Park is a new course that fills absolutely the entire park, featuring lots of elevation change, a few scenic walks through the woods, varied amounts of challenge and excellent design. Every hole has both a Veteran basket and a Marksman basket (smaller, with only one row of chains). A few baskets are raised on rocks, and on those holes, both baskets have the same feature.

The holes all have something to them, even if it's just going up and down a hill. The elevation is used well; if the hole doesn't go up or down, there's usually a sideslope to keep things spicy.

The two basket placements, while not perfect, are unique and give more variety to the course than a similar mechanism would elsewhere. Because the Marksmans are the more challenging basket, and also in the longer placement, the difference in difficulty between the short and long pins is quite a lot. Often, there's one more tree to get around for the long pin, a little more elevation, or the long pin is blind. A lot of holes are pitch-and-putt, but the long pins usually aren't.

There aren't a ton of trees here, but they're used well. There's something on every hole, a few young trees that were recently planted, and a few fairly technical shots towards the end. Rocks and stairs help out on the hills through the woods.

The back section of the course (13-18) is where most of the challenge and excitement can be found. 13 and 14 have some interesting trees in the way, and 18 plays over two valleys through a tunnel-shaped fairway. It's possible these holes don't match with the rest of the course skill-wise, but I don't mind it here.

A lot of holes are super short and open, and the elevation sometimes doesn't change the hole much. While some of these holes are good for beginners, you're also forced to trek up and down all the hills to play all the holes. The longer Marksman baskets help by giving a more challenging option, but they're still not regulation baskets and aren't as fun as they could be. I kinda wish the longer baskets had also been Veterans.

Not only are a lot of holes short, but a lot are wide open when they don't have to be (if you're playing to the short pins). Holes 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, and 12 are the main culprits. While the long pin adds that element to pretty much all of those holes, it makes the short pins super boring around half the time. But since the short pins have some teeth on a few other holes due to all the elevation change, it's a little hard to tell who the short pins were designed for.

The course stays away from the woods for the most part, but if you do sail down one of the hills or go into the thick stuff, you won't have a good time. There are also some weeds around some of the trees, but those are likely to get cleaned up soon. But I would guess the grass down the hills of 10 and 11 will stay fairly long.

Getting 18 holes here was no small feat, since the park is not very big. It does mean the other park infrastructure can get in the way. It's not bad enough to be a safety hazard, but not ideal either. There's an old abandoned road in the way on hole 1, and a light pole that I'm sure some people will hit.

If you like trains, there are lots visible down the hill from holes 2-4, less than 1000 feet away at some points.

I wish there had been a straight shot down the hill around 14-17. As it is, all we got was hole 15, which plays down the side of the hill. On that note, it's easy to walk right by hole 15 to hole 16 (but navigation on the rest of the course is pretty straightforward).

If you want to make things extra difficult, there's some cool safari opportunities. Most notably, playing hole 18 to hole 6's pins as a difficult par 4 can be fun. You could also do things like play to hole 9's pins from pretty much any direction, shoot up the hill towards hole 10, or combine several pairs of holes.

If only one set of baskets was here, my rating would probably be a 2.0. But having that extra option makes this course more suitable for way more skill levels, so there's a lot of fun to be had here for everyone.
