Pleasant Surprise

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 30, 2024 Played the course:once

Pros:

Good signage, including course map, accurate tee signs, and helpful "Next Tee" signs at key spots. Blue Discatcher Pro baskets that catch great, are easy to spot, and include the always-appreciated Disc Golf Park arrow pointing the way to the next hole. Practice basket at the entrance and hole 18 returns you quite near to hole 1's tee. Nice, grippy, level concrete tee pads on each hole. Much appreciated on uneven or muddy terrain, these were a good size and always oriented in the correct direction.

Multiple tees on numerous holes. (I played the long tees and did not keep track of which holes had short tees.) There were also well-placed wooden bridges in helpful spots.

Fun lines to throw and a variety of distances. There were several holes that required a well-placed drive and an accurate upshot. I thought the par 3 holes offered a good mix of angles and distances, plus some good use of the limited elevation available. There were also a couple of elevated baskets and some interesting pin placements. Much of the course is wooded, but the lines are fair and there are lines available for scrambling in most situations.

Cons:

Several of the baskets were high, not in an intentionally-elevated way, but just in a sort of "we put the basketball goal at 10'7" instead of 10' to mess up your shot" kind of way. Maybe the ground was hard and it was tough to dig the holes in those spots, I don't know. The one spot I would have really appreciated a "next tee" sign and could not find it was between 17 and 18. That walk crosses through another fairway (maybe 13? 14?) between the long and short tees, then the tee for 18 throws out of the trees uphill into the open.

There are one or two holes that seem to be "filler" holes to get to the next spot. There also are two or three spots where the fairways are close together in what could be dangerous ways. Spots on the course were rather muddy, but we were just passing through the area and I can't speak to the rain or the drainage.

Other Thoughts:

I think perhaps the long tees have been added since previous reviews, because I did not think this course was unusually short. I enjoyed the way it played through the woods and I was pleasantly surprised by the infrastructure and the layout. I would definitely recommend this course as a good one to play, if you are in the area. I am starting to associate the Disc Golf Park brand with pleasant surprises, as I have played several DGP courses that used the property very well and offered great tee pads, baskets, and directional signage.
