Pros:
-- Land is excellent for disc golf. There is elevation (not huge but really good for this part of Texas), water, plenty of trees and plenty of space.
-- Great variation in distances: 8 holes are longer than 400 feet (4 of those are longer than 500), and 9 holes are 300 or shorter.
-- You've got uphill throws, downhills throws and three water carries. You've got tight tunnel shots through trees that require accuracy, and you've got wide-open bomber holes that the biggest arms can't reach with their drives.
-- Tee pads are concrete and plenty big.
-- Navigation is excellent. Tees are marked, and there are directional aids to help with some transitions. I never got lost, only hesitated a few times, and I never needed to consult a map.
-- Two Port-o-potties on site, and primitive camping is allowed.
-- Provisions are available in the "office." The selection is limited, but you won't starve or die of thirst. They also have a small selection of new discs for sale as well as some used discs.
-- Practice basket.
Cons:
-- Signs are new and improved. They look good and have all of the basic information (including a diagram of the hole) and a next tee indicator.
-- The transition/walk from 4 to 5 is somewhat long and takes you down into a dry creek bed and back up the other side. It's marked, so you aren't likely to get lost, but it definitely could be treacherous. There is a rope with knots in it tied to trees that you can use to help you up and down. Steps are being cut into the sides of the creek to make this a little easier.
-- Cow patties. There are dozens (perhaps hundreds) of cows on the property, so there are cow patties on just about every hole.
Other Thoughts:
-- $12 to play two courses (one PuttPutt) all day or $100 for a one-year pass. Cash only.
-- The owner is determined to make this a first-rate property, so some improvements have been made and more are forthcoming. I've raised my rating from 4.0 to 4.5.
-- Alternate pin locations have been added. That provides variety, but those are not listed on tee signs, so there are times when you are searching for the basket.
-- Benches and other seating (huge downed tree limbs) are scattered throughout the course as well as some trash cans. A few have been added/upgraded in the six months between my first visits.
-- The best hole is No. 12. It's 410-feet downhill and open with the basket sitting on the other side of a pond. Depending on water levels, it's probably 300 feet to the edge of the water, and the basket sits about 25 feet from the edge of the water. That starts a stretch of three holes with some level of water carry.
-- In addition to the main course, there is a temp course on site. The owner plans to make that permanent (with some modifications), but the temp course is in place, so you've got 54 holes in one location.
