-The moment you walk out of the car, you are going to see an open field with three innova baskets in the shade. This should give the impression that East Flat Rock is well worth your time. There's a clear designated spot for practice putts and approaches. Once you start your round, you'll instantly see a memorable starter with two tee pads. When I played the first hole and saw the rest of the course was further into the shade beside the meadow, I knew I was in for a treat.

-Holes #6, #8, and #9 have two pin positions available for play. All of the holes except #7 have two tee pads. Many of the short pads

-The first hole leaves you wondering if the rest of it matches the overall fun factor. It's an excellent downhill par three down the meadow. Especially from the long pad. I enjoyed throwing multiple mid ranges off the long pad. The green is a little tricky to navigate since the basket is directly behind some scattered trees. It's tough to sneak past those trees on the edge of the green without going long and being left with a long putt. Very fun and fair hole. The rest of the course (with the exception of #5) plays through the woods and those holes are all solid to say the least.

-The second hole is lightly wooded with a fair number of spaced out trees on the edge of the meadow. The long pad makes for a brilliant pro par three. Roughly 400' and the tee pad is further away from the edge, giving more room to bomb a driver. The short pad is further up and on the left-hand side of the woods from the long tee and offers more of a wooded look with several trees. #3 long is a neat 255' up a gentle rightward slope filled with wooded scenery.

-You have four different options for holes #8 and #9. Both holes have two pin positions in play. The long pins are both challenging par fours down wide but winding trails. Both are roughly 600' if you play from the long pads to long pins. I thoroughly enjoyed both of those par fours. They are both more backhand friendly, but the first gap on #9's long tee is very tough to hit with a driver and will probably have you reconsider. I hit the first tree on the left because I got desperate for distance and wanted to go big. They can definitely be birdied, but you've got to go big without getting in trouble.

-The usual: Nice concrete tee pads and nice new disc catcher baskets.

-All in all, it's a nice holer that anyone can enjoy. The shorts are more beginner friendly. Some of the longs are still very attackable and offer shorter distances without difficult lines, but a few of them are very challenging (#2, #8, #9).

-No long pin or long pad on #7. This is probably the least fun hole on the course which makes this disappointing. It's just a straight 190' putter shot in the woods. #5's short pad is very weak. The long pad on #5 makes for a really good ace run from the top to hill of a terrace. #5 is one of those holes that's good with only one pad and one pin placement.

-Grass gets pretty long and some of the rough is pretty thick, increasing the likelihood for lost discs. There's poison ivy scattered around the edges, and it itches. The left side of the green on #8 is rough and I'll shadow what Craig said about snakes. There's probably some out there. The rough on the right side of #7 is just as dense as #8.

-Parking lot is pretty small and it's difficult to know where to go if the parking lot is full.

-This is an above average nine holer. I love the atmosphere playing in the shade where there are still clear views of the sky keeping the course bright. It's slightly wooded the whole way with gentle elevation change. The primary open holes (#1, 5) are both downhill gems that utilize the most available elevation on two different points of the property. They are both a lot of fun (from the longs) and give a slightly different feel from the rest of the course.

-The tee signs are installed but the diagrams are not in yet. They are in the process of being made. Until then, the layouts are marked on U disc. While not every layout is up yet on U disc, East Flat Rock is not difficult to navigate.

-The different fairway shapes are very well balanced. No overly tricky lines to hit. #1 and #4 are probably the most challenging since they are straight until you reach the green. You've got to stay straight most of the way before you turn. Nice job WNC!

A new 9-holer in Hendersonville area. The area is slowly putting together a disc golf scene.
- This brand-new course has solid bones. It's a major work in progress, but it has the making of being a quality 9-hole layout.
- Course has a good flow through the back portion of the park. It's removed from other park activities.
- Course makes great use of the terrain. Multiple holes have elevation factors, with #4 & 5 being most notable.
- Layouts range from lightly wooded on #1, 4, & 5 to significantly wooded on #7 & 8. Other holes have fairways between the trees, so hit your lines.
- Course rewards good shot making. Birdies can easily be had with good tee shots. I enjoyed the tee shots on #3 (slightly uphill, slight dogleg right) and #6 (another dogleg right).
- Course has a long and short layout. Short layout averages 199 feet; long averages 352 feet. At this point, the short layout has gotten a little more attention.
- Concrete tees. Quality baskets.
- Three practice baskets.

Course is a work in progress. In the week after I played, designer & volunteers did another major round of trimming and clearing on the course.
- The entire area around #8's basket was covered in a foot (or more) of leaves. Watch your footing. Watch for snakes. Be prepared to clean out your shoes.
- Lots of areas on fairways that need leveling. Mini dirt/debris piles in spots.
- A better path across the creek will be needed.
- Some of the info on UDisc was already wrong when I played. I possibly attribute that to decisions to move baskets and/or tees on some holes.
- Signage was lacking.
- Hole #6 had two baskets. Not sure why. Nor an indication as to why. Was told one is an alternative. So, not sure why this is the only hole with an alternative.
- Going from #8's basket to 9's tee, you're walking of #9's fairway backwards. Just push #8's basket further back.
- No tee signs at the time of my round.

EFRP will be a fun layout once it's finished. Pair it with Flat Rock Middle School 5 minutes away and you have a full 18.
- That said, I like the variety and entire layout at Flat Rock Middle more than here.
- #5 is a fun downhill hole. Control your distance as you don't want to go long. There is some thick growth/bamboo and a fence. So, coming in fast and/or too high could easily result in a lost disc.
- #1 was another fun, slightly downhill hole. Fun start to your round.
- #7 is a tight fairway. Most accurate tee shot needed on the entire course.
- This is a small parking lot. If there's a soccer game or other event going on here, it may be an issue. On the Saturday afternoon I was here, park seemed to have a typical amount of foot traffic. Only one other group of disc golfers, and there were only a few parking spaces were available.
- I'll consider this a fairly average nine-hole layout. Hopefully, when all is said and done, it'll be above average if everything goes according to plan.
