Pros:
Firebird DGC is located in a small, multiuse park just minutes off of 35. The course is a quick play if travelling that route.
The baskets here are Chainstars. These were all in solid shape and catch well. One pin position per hole.
There are concrete tee pads on most of the holes. It may have been all of them, it was hard to tell with some of the missing signs. Speaking of signs, they're 4x4's. Some of them have signs with the hole number on them.
There are trees in play on the majority of the holes (6 out of 9).
The course is free to play and would seem to never be too busy, with other golfers at least.
Cons:
The design here is pretty horrendous. Hole 5 has you throwing, literally at/over a play ground. Not only that, but there's a pavillion in play too. And a slide. I understand that it's probably not too busy here. Doesn't excuse this design though.
Hole 1 throws across the outfield of a ball diamond. This one I don't really have a problem with designwise. Basically makes the first 4 holes unplayable if it is being used though.
The flow is pretty wonky the first time playing. It would have taken much longer to decipher without using Udisc.
The lines have clearly grown in quite a bit since it was installed. If they were ever cleared in the first place. Some crapshoot, poke and hope lines exist on certain holes. Holes 5,7 and 9 come to mind.
Other Thoughts:
This course is not good. It's too small and congested of a park to jam 9 baskets in. That's literally what was done here. This was the 3rd of 4 nine hole courses I played driving down to Des Moines on 35. This one was the worst of the four I'd have to say.
It's a quick play if you happen to be passing through, There's lots of options along this stretch. You'd be wise to try elsewhere.
