A Great Outing with your Putter and Mid 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 4, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

18 hole pitch and putt circling a nice neighborhood park, featuring pins on steeply sided man made hills

+ New DGA baskets and good signs, natural grass tees (but the holes are so short you don't need runup)

+ Play the walking paths as OB. They're so close to many baskets that you'll always have to consider ground play following your flight. The good news is that relief placement can be a short putt to save par

+ Great opportunities for Ace runs (see more details below)

+ The topography is entirely manmade, like you're playing a TPC golf course. Good mix of uphill, downhill, across-the-valley, and over-the-hump shots

+ There's lots of challenges baked into this course. I played on a very windy day in February. The manicured grass was dormant and the ground was hard as concrete, so the flyaway skips and rollaways were the stuff of nightmares. I missed an 11 foot putt and found myself deep in Circle 2.

+ Spectacular views of mountains on two sides, and the Vegas strip in the distance

Cons:

- Some tee areas are on the crowns of hills, need to be mindful about compensating for your stance (you'll probably notice this right away on the first tee when you throw lower than planned)

- The course has a few partially blind holes, and finishes with an entirely blind shot. Hole #18 isn't a terrible hole, but it's unfortunate to finish with that one

- The dominant feature of the park is an amazing, modern playground at the center, and paved walking paths all along the perimeter. I have to imagine the park gets lots of use and you'll have trouble keeping up pace of play on nice days

Other Thoughts:

~ Although the hole lengths require only putters or approach discs, this is a course full of tricky placements risking rollaways, skips into the always-near OB walking paths, changes of elevation, and tons of Las Vegas wind affecting flights

~ Amazing playground including child-height ziplines. If you have playground-aged children, you can bring them along. They'll always be in sight, and they'll never want to leave!

~ If the park isn't busy, you'll have a lot of fun with 30 - 40 minute rounds. Fox Hill will always be close to my heart, because I threw my first ace here (#6, 180 ft with MD2)
