Pros:
-good DGA baskets
-though short, holes offer some good variation for a 9-hole; they're not overly challenging, but also make you pick a line and can punish you for missing it
-rough isn't too bad, and the creek running through the park usually isn't too high
-good use of some area outside the park for holes 8-9 to add some length
-Harrah is beautiful and so are the trees and birds; nice change of pace from the hustle and bustle of the city
Some favorites:
1) straight slight downhill shot
3) nice enclosed pin location
6) I don't think this is a popular one, but it requires a decent RHFH with some skip or a long putt after a layup
9) toughest on the course by far, especially from the long tee; if you don't hit the initial gap, you'll be lucky to scrape a 4. Twos are rare, and a three is just fine.
Cons:
-lack of length (not a problem)
-did manage to pick up a tick here back in May
-kinda out of the way
Other Thoughts:
I initially came out here once just to bag a course, but was pleasantly surprised and have returned quite a few times both alone and with others. The only downside is the lack of length, but I find that to be a very nice change of pace after some of the other big arm courses around Oklahoma City. Is your arm sore after spending too many days at Dolese, Choctaw, Woodson, Lions, or Griffin? Come out to Harrah for some "slow your game down" therapy. I initially played here with just a Wizard, Buzzz, and Undertaker and wasn't really missing anything. Since then, I've also brought out a Pure or Comet to work on smooth turnover lines, or even a Firebird just for an occasional overhand or skip shot. In short, it's probably not worth bringing your whole bag. Grab your putter, a couple mids/fairways, and figure out how to work your discs.
It's a fairly beginner friendly course and pretty easy to navigate, so it's a great family course. Bring your kids, your wife, your mom... it's a great place to introduce beginners and that's why Harrah has an Ace Race here most years.
As someone who lives in Oklahoma City, I also forget how beautiful the countryside can be around here. Whether fall or spring, I thoroughly enjoy my drives out here as well as my time in the park. While I wouldn't make the drive every afternoon, coming to Harrah is always relaxing and never too taxing. Harrah's not for you if you're wanting to bust out your new drivers, but if you're tired of bomber shots or need a break from the city, get out here!
