Nice addition to Clark County Disc Golf

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 30, 2024 Played the course:once

Pros:

Plenty of parking with a nice playground area right next to course. 18 holes with marked pads and baskets. Not much water to steal your discs. Very flat terrain, so your Zuca cart is a go here. This course is right next to two main roads and part of a community park so off road driving is not necessary to get there. The course is well thought out with trees and tall grass in between fairways and well placed mandos, that combine to make it a challenge for all. Great course -if your with a friend.

Cons:

The tall unmowed grass on the sides of nearly all fairways will keep you looking for your disc often, easily taking you out of rhythm and away from enjoying your round, especially if your alone. The very flat wide open terrain takes away shots that even Leverich Park can offer. The marker signs next to pads are of the low budget variety that could have been nicer.

Other Thoughts:

The addition of a practice basket was an improvement! Just need to finish with some bark chips and circle 1 timber.

Pros:

Hockinson Meadows is a prairie style course that plays in a DG exclusive portion of the park. There are some groves of pines that they do tuck some tees and baskets into which definitely ups the fun factor compared to the open prairie stuff. The first two holes are in a wooded tree line and offer a couple completely different types of hole too. There's also numerous mandos in play that tighten up the shot shape off the tee and make you throw a certain angle at least.

The baskets are brand new Innova Discatchers with a bold orange band that stands out nicely and is easy to spot. The baskets themselves are mounted properly and they catch great. There's two pin placements on each hole and one basket.

The tee pads are pretty nice. They're brick pads that are framed up in some kind of plastic cubes imbedded in the ground. Not sure exactly what you'd call them but they worked well and actually looked pretty sharp. I liked these pads. One tee per hole.

The park was in fantastic shape when we played here. The prairie areas don't get mowed obviously, but the fairways were all trimmed up nicely and very well defined. The type of prairie here doesn't appear to be the type we have in the midwest which just gobbles up discs. This stuff was much more manageable. You still don't want to be in it but you'll most likely get you disc back if you do.

Very easy to navigate this one. You won't need a map out here. If for some reason you did though, there's an awesome looking course sign with a course map on the blue kiosk before the start. The course starts and ends near the same place.

The distances range from about 230' up to about 550'. The course par is 57 with holes 7, 11 and 14 being the three par 4's.

Cons:

The tee signs aren't very informative. You don't need much honestly since it's so open but a map is always nice to have. As is, they have the hole #, par and distances to either pin placement.

Kind of repetitive feeling after a little while. It's understandable with the terrain available, but that doesn't change the fact that it's a lot of similar feeling shots. I will say that they did about a good of a design as possible though.

It's a decent jaunt from the parking lot to the course. You'll figure it out but it's not totally obvious at first. Just make sure you walk past the playgrounds and head on the trail going NW. You'll see a bridge to cross and from there it's straightforward. Be sure to bring whatever you need for your round since you won't be near your vehicle until you're done.

Other Thoughts:

Solid course, there's just nothing real memorable about it. I wouldn't necessarily mind having it near me but to be honest I probably wouldn't really play it all that often. It's a nice addition to the area though judging by the two other courses I played that day. Worth a visit at least once if you find yourself nearby.
