Pleasant Park Course, Easier than East

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 14, 2024 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Navigation is relatively easy

Course is pretty flat but there are some gentle rolling hills, kind of like all of Kansas

Hazards are close enough to be a problem without forcing you to always play away from them.

Nice tees and baskets. Some holes have two but most don't.

You often have your choice of shot shapes and none of them are particularly easy.

Cons:

There might be one too many 320 foot par 3

The course is probably a bit too reliant on forcing you to throw the classic righty hyzer flip slight flex shot but if you can do that all day, you'll love it here.

Other Thoughts:

This place is a fun walk in the park with lots of good solid holes. If you can throw it 250-300 feet with accuracy, you'll be able to birdie almost every hole here....IF you can pull off the correct shot shape. And the always stern Kansas wind doesn't make that very easy.

Over and over again the course asks you to throw a 300-foot gentle flex shot. Something that goes a little right at first, then back to the left at the end. It isn't until number 5 that you're forced to play something with a big curve, and you can do that in either direction to get to the basket. This is the first of several baskets that will be hidden behind trees. Six is the same, just longer.

7-9 go back to the main theme, flex it baby!

We played the shorter basket on 10, which is right of the pond, but like 5 and 6, you could go either way at it. 11 flex (or lay up). 12 behind a tree again.....and on it goes alternating this pattern until 18

18 is a little different, a long tunnel, 568 feet. it's not in the woods but if you stray from the fairway you're going to have tree trouble and probably not make a par. After 500 feet down the tunnel, the basket goes up a little hill to the left behind and in front of some thick cedar trees. I like it when the best hole is last.

It's not some spectacular destination course (beyond Emporia itself being a destination) but it's a fun course where you can rack up a lot of pars because the swirling, gusting wind is going to force you to have a lot of 60-footers.
