Perfectly advertised as a beginner course!

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 15, 2024 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course was advertised as a beginner course and delivered unlike some other new courses I've played recently. Killen did not feel repetitive, and kept this experienced player engaged. There are new baskets, temp signage on permanent posts, and concrete pads. The concrete pads were extremely small, but most holes are stand still shots for me.

There are plenty of trees amongst the well-defined fairways which has become rare with most new courses. Elevation throughout the course. Most other park activities did not come into play. So, the designer knew what to stay away from in this beautiful park.

One of the biggest pros I found are the arrows welded into the base of the basket showing the route to the next hole. Fantastic!

The beginner with me that throws 150' max absolutely loved this course.

Cons:

There are some minor flaws, and most don't matter unless you're a blowhard dying to attract a pro tournament. About half of the tee signs face the wrong way with hole 5's tee sign in the circle of hole 4's basket.

As noted in the pro section, the tee pads are very small. This only affected me on a few holes that I needed to do a runup. The beginner with me noticed several tee pads are close to the previous basket. That would only become a problem if leagues or tournaments were held out here.

The walk from 18 back to the parking lot near hole 1 is long, but there's not really a way around it that I can find.

Other Thoughts:

Pro tip: Play an early round after sunrise on Saturday and bring cash. The farmer's market located near the beginning of the course opens at 8am.
