Landry Vineyards

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 3, 2024 Played the course:once

Pros:

-- Map available in the tasting room. It's on nice card stock with a scorecard. Don't be confused by the 18 holes listed; they've listed holes 1-9 twice for an 18-hole layout. Map is not to scale. It shows 8 as the second shortest hole on the course. It's the longest hole on the course and nearly twice as long as the shortest holes.
-- Best holes are 6-8. Six is 273 feet uphill with trees and an OB fence left and vineyards right. Seven is 293 feet downhill in a tunnel with houses/trees left and vineyards right. Eight is the longest hole (470 feet) and plays similar to seven right and left, but you start flat, go uphill and then downhill to the basket. The ground continues to slope away past the basket, making you pay for an overthrow.
-- Restrooms and water in the tasting room.
-- Cornhole available on outdoor patio overlooking the course and vineyards.
-- Cottages and RV sites are available for rent. They also have live music on a lot of Saturdays in the Spring and Fall. Winery tours are available each Saturday at 2 p.m.

Cons:

-- Too many holes play in basically an open field with few or no trees. Two and four are the worst of those.
-- You cross a road (not a driveway) to play Nos. 3-5 and cross back to plays 6-9. The gate is near the No. 2 basket, but when you cross back from 5 to 6, you've got a walk of about 500 feet to reach the gate and then several hundred to reach the No. 6 tee.

Other Thoughts:

-- The gameplay is OK but nothing special; the ambiance and other amenities make this worth a stop even though it's a little bit of a trek off of Interstate 20 to get here.
-- Free to play but only available when the winery is open (Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. through 5:30 p.m. Closed on Sundays).
