More of this on the Cape, please drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 18, 2022 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Finally, a 2nd course on Cape Cod!

As of a few weeks ago, every hole has paver pads. All the holes have two baskets and that's been the case for over a year.

The design of this place is nothing less than excellent. I'm really impressed. A common complaint I have with new Massachusetts courses is how a few holes have bizzarely thin fairways with no real identifiable gap. None of that here. The course is definitely tight in spots, but there is always a clear path that doesn't require spray and pray. The elevation is used well, and there is natural OB from drainage ravines. I can't think of a bad hole here.

Elevation. Lots of it. The Cape isn't known for being exceptionally hilly, but this place is built onto a hillside and plays up and down a couple times.

Navigation is simple. You play back to the parking lot three times and can't really get lost.

Cons:

Bramble. If you're not on the fairway, you will be playing out of some thorny vines. Going for max distance is usually a bad idea vs a controlled shot.

Ticks. I found a tick on my dog the day after Christmas last year (it was unusually warm that day). If it's over about 45 degrees, be on the look out. Unfortunately this is prime Lyme disease country. Don't worry about it, just put on some bug spray and check yourself at home.

The tee signs here are very good, but you will have some blind shots the first time you play, even on the short holes. It's New England, not Oklahoma after all.

Other Thoughts:

Not a con per se, but there is a steep charge for parking in the summer because the course uses a lot for a nearby swimming hole (sorry, Cape Cod tourism isn't fed by disc golf dollars). For me this is a three-season course.

There is really something here for all players. The short baskets have a lot of birdie opportunities but are not a walk in the park. The long baskets are a much bigger challenge. When it comes to new courses in the state, this and Clement Farms are the two that I loved right off the bat. Kudos to the designers here. It's a gem. This is clearly among the handful of "must visit" courses just below Maple Hill and 501.

A gem in a DG desert 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 9, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

In an area starving for another disc golf course, this is a gem for us hungry throwers.
- 2 baskets for every hole (long & short)
- The longer baskets are high end Mach VIIs while closer baskets are the single chain variety.
- Variety of terrain on each hole
- Pars for longer baskets are appropriate
- Great mix of both short and long holes
- Challenging for both Intermediates and studs
- A beautiful woodsy area
- OB lines delineated by yellow ropes (lots of OB!)
- Properly placed Mandos
- An amazing workout for the quads and hams

Cons:

- T-Boxes are a work in progress (they're gonna be great though)
- The $20 parking fee the Town of Sandwich charges (which i why I went off-season for free!)
- NOT a family friendly course (which is more of a Pro than a Con in my mind)

Other Thoughts:

Kudos to the creators of this course (whom I met during our round). Creating a challenging course in an area that was screaming out for it. This course is a blast. If you like wide open fairways, go somewhere else. This is tunnel shot after tunnel shot, with strategically placed trees that you will love to hate.
To me, it is a mix of Plainville, Franklin and Devens, all tossed together. Woodsy, tight lines, serious elevation changes, all with the new course feel (meaning you will end up in a shrubbery, and possibly trip over a newly hewn stump, and maybe get poison ivy to boot).
I am considering this course now a "Destination Course". Make a day of it. I have no problem driving 1.5 hours to play this twice through (Longs, then shorts), scarf down a sub, then head over to Burgess Park in Marston's Mills (12 min drive) for the 3rd round of the day. Well worth the commute.
Great job. Thanks for building this!!!

Burgess doesn’t compare 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 13, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

•Great use of elevation, distance, shooting gallery lines
•Flow/Navigation was intuitive
•Baskets!!
•Accurate tee signs

Cons:

•Fairways are fresh cut, so they are covered in wild rose + poison ivy
•Rough is impenetrable at times
•Dirt tees are the best they can be

Other Thoughts:

This course is not for the faint of heart, but those with a strong game will enjoy it immensely. Elevation is the best I have seen in Mass, beats devens on technicality.
Holes 1-9 seem to have single tee/ 2 basket, and 10-18 have 2 & 2. It is obviously brand new so there are no easy paths into rough spots, some of which may be within C1. Lots of spiky holly trees, PI, and wild rose will punish errant shots.
Fairways are fair and wide enough, with the toughest gaps around 20' wide - 50' out from tee. Most of the next hole paths are beyond the long pins, so just keep walking. Overall this is epic, just needs some breaking in and tee pads to get a 4+
