Pros:
As a longtime DCR reviewer, I was quite excited to finally bag my FIRST North Dakota course. I carefully chose Optimists DGC because it has a great on-line map, very detailed and looking easy to follow and secondly, almost every hole has a shorter pad, just perfect for my game.
So I find the kiosk behind the bandstand but I only find one tee pad. And I don't see the # 1 basket. The tee pad aims left of the fighter jet memorial thing. The only basket I see in that direction is far right of jet and naturally, there is no number on it.
Point of reference here before I continue. The concrete tee pads are wonderful. They're 16 long. They're great but they don't have a number in them. The Discatcher baskets are great with the yellow bands. But they don't have a hole number on them. The tee sign poles are great. They're like 8 feet tall and stout as can be. But they don't have a tee sign on them. The park itself is lovely, green, hilly, perfect for a disc golf course (except for the cactus plants) imbedded in the grass.
Continuing on from hole 1. I think I find the two tee pads for # 2 but the basket is way farther away. Same with 3-4-5. Nothing adds up. Also, someone has spray painted arrows and numbers everywhere. I think the arrows are going in a different direction than me. I finally play back up the hill to the jet and I reread the info on the kiosk. I see it says, to get the updated course, download the Udisc app. I have the Udisc App and still couldn't find a map. §¥£& ME! At this point, I call off the jam. I'm finished with this abortion of a course. I might be finished with. North Dakota!
Cons:
No signs anywhere.
No numbers on the baskets.
Tee pads that don't point at the baskets.
Tee pads that are now wasted.
On line map is obsolete.
Other Thoughts:
It's too bad as this is really a nice park for a course. What does the parks department think when they see all these wonderful concrete pads which now don't make any sense? How about when they see all these giant tee sign poles sticking with no signs on them? This is a case where someone wanted to make the course more challenging but didn't think it through. Why, when I attempted to tackle this course on an absolutely perfect September Saturday at 5 PM, did I have the entire course to myself?
I hope this isn't some kind of Udisc versus DGCR thing because we are in this sport for the same reasons and should be able to work together for the benefit of all disc golfers. When the map on DGCR is totally obsolete and the only app that is current is on Udisc, I think we have an issue. Let's get the old map off and get the updated version on our site.
