Bad Summer Choice

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 9, 2024 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course was formerly a 9 hole course known as Rendevous-South. The original 9 holes circled a man made pond. In 2022, 9 additional baskets were installed to make this an 18 hole course, and the name was changed to Powerline Park at Rendevous. To reach holes 7 through 15, the player has to follow an asphalt trail with private property and houses on both sides of the trail to reach a vast, treeless area that has a high powerline over it. The player then returns on the same trail to reach holes 16, 17, and 18, which were formerly known as 7,8,and 9 before the additional 9 baskets were added. The only pros to the course that I found were that the tee pads are nice, long cement pads, and the asphalt trail through the park was being used by several attractive, friendly women on the morning I played. Other than that, I have nothing further to say that I liked about this course.

Cons:

At the beginning of the course by the parking lot, there is a sign that advises players to not retrieve discs that land on private property or in the pond. The sign states that homeowners have the right to call the police if a player enters a back yard to retrieve a disc. The sign indicates that some of the fairways are too close to private property, and that some of the home owners consider the course and the players to be a problem. The pond creates a water hazard for any player who occasionally throws an errant throw. While the tee pads are nice, there are no signs, no poles, no stakes, and no wires with flags to mark where the tee pads are. Even though I had a photo of the map of the course on my phone, I still had to wander around to look for the tee pads. I felt like I spent half of my time on the course looking for the next tee pad. With the exception of a small portion of the fairway near the basket for hole #6, the course is treeless. The length of the 18 hole course is 6,785 feet, which many players will find to be too long for a virtually treeless course during warm to hot temperatures. The morning I played the temperature was in the mid 80s, there were no clouds, and there was no breeze, which caused me to be very hot by the time I found the tee pad for #5. Because of the hot conditions, I played only the baskets that surround the pond and then I left.

Other Thoughts:

Due to the vast treeless portion of the course, this course would best be played on sunny days when temperatures are in the 40s, 50s, or 60s with no wind to light breeze. Unless a player enjoys being hot with clothing saturated with sweat, I would recommend to avoid this course during the summer. I would be willing to play the course as an 18 hole course with temperatures in the 40s, 50s, or 60s, and if I had a guide along who was familiar with the location of the tee pads. This course is in desperate need of signs. As far as the Fargo area goes, this course does have value despite the numerous flaws. During the early to mid spring, after all of the snow melts, the other 18 hole courses in the Fargo area are often flooded by the Red River and the 18 hole course in nearby Moorhead, Minnesota is a marshy, muddy mess, which may make Powerline Park the only playable 18 hole course in the area.

Not Fargo's Finest 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 4, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

+It has 9 nice baskets.
+It does have a fun water hole. You can totally go for it over the pond or you have the option to go around if you aren't comfortable with the distance.
+More elevation than most of Eastern ND has. One blind hole over a hillside.
+Some decent length variation. Most are on the shorter side but 2 are around 300 and one has to be 400+.
+Tees are marked (see cons)
+Ace runs on 6 holes for most players.

Cons:

-Signage is non-existent. There used to be some but it was probably knocked out by vandals and never replaced.
-Very open. More baskets than trees. This can make the wind horrendous. I've played a few times when I'm in town for work as this is one of the closer courses to company HQ. It has been very windy and fairly calm.
-Tees are quite small and warped. They are at least there so you know where to throw from but they aren't great for the longer holes.
-Some man-made obstacles like fences. Not my favorite obstacles.

Other Thoughts:

+I've really only played this course due to proximity to where I've been in Fargo and because I'm a bagger. Only play here if those reasons apply to you too.
+Fun factor is overall pretty low. I would throw a few discs on the water hole but overall, a pretty bland round.
+This course is better than the other one in the same park, I'll review that one at some point here.

Its OK, pretty fun little course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 28, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Easy to see baskets.
Some fun challenging holes.
Beginner friendly

Cons:

Back three holes aren't too much fun to play. Its all torn up and then there is a TON of mud / standing water. Then it plays next to the ball fields with large fences, end up out there and its a pain in the butt.

Other Thoughts:

Much better than the course right next to it...

Better Than The North 9... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 16, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

It exists
Has nice DISCatcher baskets marked with hole numbers
Is nowhere near a river, so won't flood
It has about 3 challenging holes

Cons:

All signs except map at beginning are missing
Last 3 holes are a bit of a walk and seem like an afterthought
The tees are small and a weird soft rubber that as the ground beneath them has warped, so have the tees

Other Thoughts:

Well, if you're gonna play one of the courses at this park (perhaps because everything else in the area is flooded) then this is the one. It's not too challenging other than holes 4,5, and 8, the rest are easy pars/birdies. Hole 4 was a little hard to find at first, the tee is right by the South entrance to the park and is comparitively long and a blind shot over some low hills. 5 is a nice shot over the pond, if you do lose your disc, you could probably retrieve it, although the water is full of algae and pond scum. Then after hole 6 you have to walk about 6-700 feet around the baseball fields to the batting cages, where holes 7 and 9 are straightforward shots with no obstacles. 8 is the longest, but also the most annoying, as it's a long dogleg around the fence to one of the fields, so if your disc does happen to fly over the fence, you have to walk all the way around to the other side to get in and back out. Overall, the last 3 just feel like an after thought after an easy, but at least somewhat fun 6 holes. Oh, and from tee 1 you throw South to basket 1, basket 9 is behind you to the North about the same distance. Also, the baskets for 1 and 8 are mounted higher on the weird concrete pillars the tee markers are on.

Pitch and Putt 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 5, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Low traffic
Holes 4 and 5

Cons:

Too short
No trees
Too easy

Other Thoughts:

This course has 3 holes that make it worth playing when you have few options. One is a blind shot over a small hill around 300 feet on hole 4. The next is a shot over a pond on hole 5 again around 300. Hole 8 appears to be over 400 feet and is the longest. It has a left bending dog leg around the fence of a baseball field. This course is better than not playing, but if you have access to Oak Grove or Woodlawn there is no reason to play this course other than just being able to say you took it off your list.

Pros:

-Some blind shots
-One hole has you shooting over a water hazard which can be a challenge

Cons:

-No signage
-It can get confusing trying to find the next tee box
-Very windy location as it was built in the middle of a field

Other Thoughts:

If you are going to visit Rendezvous this is the course you want to play.

This is the Daddy and that’s the Baby. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 19, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course has OB, water, blind baskets, and some slight elevation. Sometimes blind baskets can be fun, but you will need to walk up to get a real feel for where to throw. The #5 throwing over the water is a great hole. The pond is made with ballast type of rocks and seems pretty clean. You should be able to go get you disc from it if you want to go in there. The other water on this course seems really tough and creates a challenge. The small elevation adds a nice tough and does give the feel as though there was a terrain change. The baskets and grass tees were in great shape. The restroom and trashcans are located by the parking area.

Cons:

This part of the park does not get as much mowing attention, although part of this might be due to the recent weather. Navigation can be a slight issue here. After hole 6, number 7 is on the other side of the baseball fields. You can walk the road to get there.

Other Thoughts:

The Fun Factor here was just ok. I really like the over the pond hole and one of the blind basket holes that went over some mounds. Outside of that, the risk/reward factor is still there on few other holes, but it really didn't get my blood boiling. This is the tougher of the 2 9-hole courses at this park. This would be the daddy and the other would be the newborn. ;o)

South 9 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 18, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Most of the baskets are premited. Great use of the layout of the land. # 4 is a great hole to play and # 5 out over the lake.

Cons:

Two of the baskets were in concrete block, they were to high and they could be push over. The rubber pads? DON'T use them, tee off in the grass. The long walk to # 7 and thin to # 8, need better sign.

Other Thoughts:

The course sign need to be relocated closer to Tee 1. I missed the sign, because it was being covered by a van.

Pros:

Way better than Rendezvous North
Good presence of obstacles
Relatively low traffic

Cons:

No hole distance information posted
Poor upkeep outside of the actual fairway
Difficult to find hole #7

Other Thoughts:

This is my go-to course in Fargo when I only have time for 9 holes. There are quite a few elevation obstacles that appear to have been intentionally placed where they are, and hole #5 makes for an interesting decision with the water hazard (I lost my first Teebird here). The same pond comes into play on hole #6 about 25 feet past the basket. Despite the hazards, the course is relatively easy due to the lack of trees, and easy to navigate with the exception of the walk to hole #7.

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 23, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course is in a park that has another course in it, but unlike the other course, this one is interesting. Water comes into play on hole 1, 5, and 8, but holes 1 and 8 only have seasonal water coming into play. Hole 5 is a medium length shot over a pond.
There are medium sized bumps all over the course, we're talking 4 or 5 foot mounds all over the place. These are nice because they dictate how you need to throw your shot.
Unlike the other course on this land, there are a few trees in the way on a few holes. It makes these holes much more interesting.
The layout is ok, though there is a really large distance between 6 and 7.
Wind comes into play on every hole, cause this is Fargo after all. This makes even short holes hard to judge.

Cons:

Very short for the most part. Some of the holes hardly even seem worth playing they are so short. This being said, wind is a huge factor. There are really only 3 holes where I driver is needed, and only one where a driver is pretty much the only shot.
Some of the holes are hard to see from the teepad, so you don't know if the group in front of you is done or not.
The hole that plays over the lake has a walking path behind it about 25 feet, and because you're throwing over water, many people tend to bomb it and just go way long, which is a hazard to joggers and trail users.

Other Thoughts:

This is a way better course then the other one in this park. there are obstacles, water hazards, and distance along with random hills. If you go to this park, play the other course as a warm up and then play here.
Right now, the drainage ditch type thing next to hole 1 and 8 is pretty full of water, that being said it's a good 50 or 60 feet to the right on both shots, and down about 15 feet. This being said, with the wind that is out there, it probably is not uncommon to throw it in there.

When all the other courses in Fargo are flooding, it is nice to know that this course is an alternative to the other rendezvous course.

The two courses are so far apart from each other that it really seems there is no way to have this be an 18 holer, rather than a 9 holer. However, the tee pads and baskets are both moveable, so there is a chance that this may happen.
