Pros:
Great signage (both tee signs and navigation)
Good teepads (with brooms)
Beautiful views
Good variety of shots needed. I threw putters, mids and drivers regularly off the tee. Also threw backhand, forehand and thumbers regularly. Every hole presents its own challenge.
Excellent use of the elevation, throwing up, down and across.
Basket placements were good, they forced a line often even when the fairway could allow others.
Cons:
I have to stretch to find anything to critique.
No real "ski slope" bomb shots you expect on a resort course.
18 is close, but doesn't have the extreme elevation change I associate with these courses (not to say this course doesn't use the elevation exceptionally well)
All holes play par 3, there were no holes that forced me to play the fairway as opposed to go for the pin. (including 600'+ 18 which is fairly reachable due to slope, I got lucky and pulled it off during league)
This course used to have twice the trees. They have altered the old layout to make great use of what trees are still there, its just hard to forget some of the natural fairways there used to be. The new layout flows even better as well.
A couple baskets could use some maintenance or updating.
If you are not in great shape, it is somewhat of a hike.
Pretty long drive for anyone but locals. (but worth it)
Other Thoughts:
Be aware of your surroundings, there are a few bee hives and some sketchy places you may find your lie.
I would not miss this one, and it may even be worth the day trip from the front range just to play. I put it up there with the best courses in the front range mountains, but this is better because you are unlikely to wait on every hole, or have a group throwing in on you like you may find elsewhere.
There are very few courses I have played that I would rather play more.
