Pros:
This was a fun, short course in a beautiful setting surrounded by mountains rising steeply from a fjord in the Prince William Sound.
The course is an easy 15-minute walk from the cruise ship dock, with Valdez points of interest along the way.
Trees and rough require some shot-shaping on each hole.
Portable baskets were mostly mounted level and caught just fine. The hole #1 basket is raised on a nice two-tiered mound, adding challenge to a fairly short hole
Cons:
Potential safety issues on two holes. Hole #2 has a mando to protect the dog park, and hole #4 borders a parking lot all along the left side. I had to wait until vehicles and a pedestrian passed by before teeing off.
Rough is quite thick on a few holes, so chance of disc loss is surprisingly high for such a short course. The course was brand new when I played, so perhaps the rough will be cleared out with time.
I played on a lovely sunny day but dirt tees may get slippery in the frequent Valdez rains.
Four of the six holes finish right, and the other two are straight. Good news for lefty backhanders I suppose. Hole #4 has an unrealistic line, requiring the disc to take a hard right turn immediately after clearing a thick patch of shrubbery.
Despite the majestic mountains all around the course itself is dead flat.
Other Thoughts:
Despite the cons I enjoyed playing here. This was a pleasant little course in a gorgeous setting, and despite the short distances birdies felt satisfying.
If you are on a cruise, the course is a great excuse to get out and stretch your legs. As a bonus, you get to watch dogs frolicking at the town dog park while you play.
