Pros:
- Excellent original design working with what they had in the park. Very challenging and fun little 9 hole course.
- For just 'a 9 hole', this is the most challenging 9 hole course in DFW.
- It is well lay-ed out and each fairway sign shows you the next tee-pad. Each hole has unique challenges and you'll need to be able to throw many different ways to beat this course.
- It has short technical lines, with water hazards on the 1st, 6th & 9th fairways. If you throw mostly hyzers, you're wet on #9.
- Since the 2018 summer trim, Fairway #1 now has a decent flight path and it's no longer impossible. It's still a challenge and there is still a chance a roller will get wet.
Cons:
- Wellington of Flower Mound's DGC is open to Wellington & near by Flower Mound residents. So "be from nearby Flower Mound", pickup your trash and be polite to the dog walkers, families and your neighbors. You are playing in a park that backs up to many large homes, so be NICE and they won't care if you borrow the course.
- Again, You do have to share the park with residents, dog walkers and high school kids paying volley ball or basketball. Share the park.
- To get from Fairway #7 to #8's teepad, it is easier to go into the woods right behind #7 basket, turn slightly right and walk up the cut path through the brush onto the back berm holding the small lake. Turn left and you'll go past Teepad #9 and see Basket #8. Walk to it, and you'll see #8 teepad down under great trees. Fairway #8 has a low roof from trees and the basket sits up the hill holding the back of the small lake.
Other Thoughts:
- The Wellington Property Managers walked the park with me in the 2018 summer along with their arborist and grounds crew manager. Although none play disc golf, the arborist 'got' my suggestions and became a 'friend to disc golf'. Fairway #1 although short was very difficult due to the ridiculous amount of scrub trees blocking the fairway and the slope of the ground down into the small pond created by a concrete damn. The short fairway was too hard for beginners who could end up 3-5 strokes over par before they stood at Teepad #2, and many lost discs into the pond. The arborist claimed some of the trees were dying from lighting strikes ( so do not play here when lightning is coming!) and he marked them for cutting. Now we have a decent fairway with a flight path to the basket.
The scrub growing on fairway #4 had nearly over taken the drive & the grounds crew reclaimed that fairway for us. They did an excellent job returning this hyzer shot back to us.
If you park at the Wellness Center / Tennis courts on 3040 & Furlong drive, you'll find teepad #1 in the trees across the small damn. If you use a cart, it's easier to walk around the pond past Teepad #2.
