Course Sprung Over Hills

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 1, 2024 Played the course:once

Pros:

Appropriately named, Wind and Hills has loads of elevation with excellent elements and upkeep for a backyard course. Long bombers contrasted with gap-lacing control shots make for a difficult round that Chuck has created. Absolutely beautiful tee areas crafted on all holes (1 tees from the driveway)

Ceilings and gaps all over the round. Holes 1, 3, and 5 have harsh ceilings to stay under and yet get the distance to the pin. 2, 6, and 8 all have a gap, either early or late, and 8 combines it with an uphill shot. Hole 9 puts it together with a long tunnel, not a crazy harsh ceiling, but still there with a 300ft tunnel then a crossing to the island green with a basket perched on top of a small mound in the middle of the circle driveway.

Unique elements to add to the charm, the triple mando barn on hole 3 after beating the ceiling, the water looming behind holes 2 and 5 and on the right of 6. 6 also has the basket perched on top of an old tractor. 8 is through a tiny gap with a very strong uphill afterwards.

A few opportunities to get big air, hole 4 tees downhill and left to the back corner of the yard with a very small gap on the left, or a huge left-rinishing hyzer to the right. 5 has a long tee with a long, slow uphill off the tee, then a downhill yoke to the pin which may have a ceiling depending on how you positioned your tee shot, but may be another opportunity to air a midrange down to the pin.

Cons:

The long gap on 6 is a bit tight, and the baskets are lower-end MVP baskets. Still do the job but not the most amazing.

A few holes are near un-birdiable. The combination of the low ceiling and the triple mando on 3 makes it near-impossible to deuce, and throwing into the hillside through the gap on 8 makes the throw-in the only way to two that one. The holes are not bad, just far above the difficulty level of the rest of the course.

Other Thoughts:

This is a fantastic backyard round. The elevation and ceilings keep the difficulty up, and the uniqueness keeps it worth coming back, plus the long tee and pin on 5.

Scheduling a round was simple, texted Chuck and he got back nice and quick. Nice guy over text and I'll try to meet him next time I'm back. And I will go back.

This course is absolutely worth getting over to. Not a bad hole to be found. Can be combined with the Hillsdale Lake courses or the Edgerton ones. Give Chuck a call and get a round ir two in.

Private Getaway

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 25, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Good shot variety with a solid mix of distances accounted for.

-Elevation present on a few holes. Just the right amount to keep things interesting.

-The lines are interesting and shots must be shaped in order to score well.

-Course is well kept

-Nice view of Hillsdale lake in the background on Hole 4.

-Fun course to work on all aspects of your game.

Hole by Hole:
1-Nice lower ceiling shot that plays downhill
2-Straight shot with 2 trees to throw between right off the box, basket is close to the pond to add to the pucker factor
3-Sweet up hill and dog leg left hole with a triple mando through the barn. Cool little hole
4-downhill hole with moderate length, hyzer line(RHBH) is the play here
5-downhill hole with a low ceiling 1/3 or the way down the fairway, open once you hit the gap
6-a blind hyzer shot through a gap, basket is close to the rough on the left
7-valley-ish shot over a drainage area, basket between the trees
8-uphill shot that is moderate in length but is deceptive
9-nice straight shot that plays to an island, basket is in the grass that is surrounded by the circle driveway

Cons:

-No signage or distances.

-Tees aren't marked, however Chuck the owner will play along with you and show you around.

-Only available by appointment, not a huge con however as the owner is very accommodating.

Other Thoughts:

This is a private course that you will need to contact the owner Chuck to set up a tee time. He is a super nice guy and will play along with you during your round to show you around. He's very enthusiastic about the sport and loves to share his property with you. We enjoyed our round here and the shot variety was nice and tested all aspects of our game. The elevation keeps things interesting but its not so brutal that you will be gassed after playing a round.

The triple mando through the barn adds a nice flavor to this course and is a good use of an existing structure to add difficulty to your round. The uphill shot on hole 8 plays longer than it looks, we were told a popular play is to throw a roller and let it climb up the hill. The island green on hole 9 will tempt you to take a run at it for birdie, but I'm sure most will throw to just before the road and then make their upshot and play for the easy 3.

All in all this is a fun course and worth a play if you are in the area. It's nice that there are players out there willing to design and allow other disc golfers the opportunity to play their private courses. Set up a time and go out and play Wind and Hills.
