    Other info

I am the owner of The Disc Golf Experience. I do have an online store focussed on out of production, rare, or hard to find discs and disc golf trading cards located at www.thediscgolfexperience.com I run lots of leagues in Southeastern Wisconsin and a few tournaments around Wisconsin. I have a store called The Disc Barn in Menomonee Falls which is currently literally a barn where I rent office space for my landscape company. My hope is to one day be designing courses full time all around the country.

Well since I have seen a lot of people write their review criteria on this section of their profile I thought I would include mine.

The disc rating is a good place to start. Basically the disc rating is the measure of how likely I would be to return to this course (with the consideration that I was already in the area of the course). It is not necessarily how challenging the course is, it is not about how nice the course amenities are, it is not about how beginner friendly it is, nor is it about just the design of the course . . . it is about the likelihood that I will return. You can argue that the likeliness for me to return is about all of those things and that is somewhat true . . . but it is more about how much fun did I have. The amount of fun is hard to quantify but it is just a feeling you get from a course. A lot of times I can know that a course is going to be fun before I even tee off. Because I do think all of those things mentioned above can affect my level of fun they do need to be accounted for, and that is why there is a RATING and also a REVIEW. The review is the substance, the rating is simply my overall impression of the course and how likely I will be to return. This can be argued is not the same for courses that are far away as it is for courses that are near me. That is correct but as you can tell by my statistics I do not really discriminate against courses. If I am in the area I will play just about any course, there are only a few courses I have played that I absolutely would not go to again. If I was in the area of a course I rated a 1 but it was the only course I could get to and play because of time constraints I would still play it, but if I had a little more time and a little further drive to get to a 2.5 disc rated course I would likely do so.

Here are all of the other factors that go into my review and a brief explanation (if necessary):

Teepads (Condition and sustainability are imp.)
    Tee Signage
    Course Flow and other signage
How beginner friendly is the course (I will downgrade a course that is not beginner friendly unless it is specifically designed for pros only. A course like Winthrop Gold does not need to accommodate beginners, but it would be an added bonus to the course if it did.
Cleanliness (Trash cans, garbage on ground)
Turf and Trees (Health and condition are imp.)
I am a landscaper so it is hard for me to not downgrade a course with trees falling apart, Buckthorn and Poison Ivy. Proper pruning and maintenance should be considered.
    Design of the course
    Shot selection
Multiple shot holes (Single shot Par 3's are the standard for disc golf, but longer Par 4's and 5's with multiple shots are important.) Just a wide open 700' hole requiring 2-3 good shots to reach is not a good hole, I would rather play a 450' hole that had a sharp dogleg, or a tunnel you need to hit at some point.
Challenge (I like a challenge whenever I play but it also needs to be fair and executable for the average player)
    Maintenance of the course
What are the locals like (if applicable . . . only really good or really bad people will be considered)
What is the neighborhood like (Again only really bad neighborhoods are worth mentioning)
Multiple shots allowed on holes (accommodating lefties and righties, or FH vs. BH throwers)

Properties I have played that are not listed on DGCR (some count as courses and some do not just like Practice areas on DGCR):

Where is the capital one bowl (tampa or orlando?)

I will have time on the 1st and/or 2nd (PROBABLY), to play in the tampa area, but I will not be driving to Sarasota to play because my wife will kill me, and we will be driving through sarasota on the 4th. I am still waiting to get the go ahead from my uncle about the dates and times because he is supposed to be going to the outback bowl on the 1st. If he does I have all day to do stuff until he gets home in the evening.

Lets just keep in touch. I am going to PM you my cell # if you can reply back that would be great, oh and by the way I will have my laptop with me the whole vacation so I can and will be checking this site at least once a day.
Yeah i have his telephone number. I am going to the Capital One Bowl on January 1st. And my girlfriend is pressuring me to start driving back the 2nd. So we me have to try and squeeze it in or break the rules and trade before the 1st :p
    Mike,

We should meet up at Dretzka some lunch hour, Monday thru Friday and play. I work on 73rd and Bradley, so it's just a 5 min. cruise for me. Let me know, as I'm usually there 2 or 3 days a week for a quick 9 holes at lunch. We can shoot more holes if you like, I just need a couple days notice. Let me know!
Got the layoff today, weather looks to be getting colder soon, but i may have a few good days to get some tosses in. Parkside is the closest good course to me, otherwise any day you want to get out I have the time and the desire to travel in the name of disc golf. 414 510 8707
There is going to be a modified setup for the tourney, but I have no idea what that means because as long as the regular golf course is open the holes on the golf course are not allowed to be open. I would assume they may include some holes from the regular course as part of that tourney but I really do not know.

    brown deer is closed

check out this site . . . it is the local club and although it isnt 100% accurate nor updated super frequently it will have info about the courses as they close I suppose

Yeah we'll see about thursday, looks like the weather is supposed to be rather crappy, but i've been known to play in some real nasty stuff. I'll take your word for it about the 9 at dretzka not being worth the drive, although i noticed there is a tourney on the 28th(saturday) on the winter 24 so i would assume it will be all set by then. either way, i'm free thursday morning and hope to play somewhere, even if it has to be valley view, abendschein, or franklin. most likely i'll be up in franklin by tomorrow night. any idea if brown deer is still in? that course is way over my head while i'm learning new grips but i may go this weekend anyways.
I had heard that the weather was supposed to be crappy on thursday, but until i bother looking for a more detailed forecast i think i'm going to try to get out to dretzka thursday morning, even if its only 9 holes. Itll have to be early because the family stuff starts around noon. I could use a change of scenery, plus i haven't tossed a disc in over a week so i'm itching to throw. I'm almost crossing my fingers for a layoff, but it doesnt look like the company is going to let me sit idle. I was hoping to have some good free discing days before the snow comes. Anyways, are these 9 winter holes fairly self explanatory or is there something i should know? never played the winter holes.
Both my wife and I went to the U of MN for horticulture, I garduated in 99 and she graduated in 98. We both spent about 10 years working on golf courses before moving intot he landscape portion of the industry. My wife was doing designs for about 4 years before I joined the company, when I joined we switched from design to maintenance and small projects. We are looking to continue to grow and diversify, so hopefully I can prove my value to the disc golf community in terms of my horticultural knowledge and maybe I can help design/install courses. I think I have something to offer to the process for sure. I look forward to working with Terry because he is such a great guy and I think he is great for the sport.
Our company is called Beautiful Blooms and we focus almost 100% on lawn/landscape maintenance. We do mostly biweekly visits for landscape maintenance and weekly lawn mowing services. We offer fertilizing/weed control, aeration, mulch, SCU and FCU, pest. applications, weeding, shrub trimming, pruning etc etc etc. We do small projects and typically range from $500-$5000. We do not have large equipment like bobcat and such so we focus on rpping out the old and redesigning and planting, but any hardscapes and grading work we leave to others. We just havent had the equipment to do that sort of thing but xpect to eventually.
the 27 holes at Dretzka apparently did get pulled today so the course is only the 9 holes above the golf course. Not sure if you have been there for the winter course or not, but if you have any questions about it I can walk you through the course. 15 holes go in on the ball golf course and wil not be opened until the ball golf course closes.
i'll be out of town until monday night, if you happen to be at fox river park after about 4:15 tues or wed i am usually there. i am actually hoping to hit up dretzka thanksgiving morning, my family is up in franklin.
Right now, I work for Breezy Hill Nursery, at their farm in Clinton, which is near Beloit. I am the wholesale yard foreman, and all around nursery gringo. It's not really a good fit for me, i'm more of a detail and quality oriented person than a quantity and speed person. Before that, worked for Rich's foxwillow pines and before that Garden of Eder Nursery. Did 2 years worth of a Plant biology degree at U of MN before boring lab work and family issues brought me back to WI, and i got an associates degree in Landscape Horticulture emphasizing Maintenance/Arboriculture from MATC. I'm actually planning on attending UWM in the spring, which will bring me back to milwaukee, to find a new job. And yes, I have been known to walk around the nursery with a felco in each hand, but somehow i managed to lose my lefty felco and its holster. nowadays i prefer a felco in the right and a silky zubat in the left. What's the name of your company?
Well, nevermind, just saw your conversation with Gordon about the improvement/additions at Parkside.

Gonna have to get down there the next time I'm in the state.
Hey, is the Parkside "Orchid" course different from the old "Parkside" course.

If so that would mean there are 2 courses there, one 18 holes and one 21 holes right?
I'm still trying to figure out this messaging process. did you get the one about where i work?

what day are you going to fox river park? I might be able to make it out there and embarass myself a bit.
Ive been super-swamped at work lately. I'm way behind on my reviews, and keep playing new courses and getting further behind. Im sure when everything closes in the winter and its a total whiteout, Ill have to turn to reviews to satisfy my craving. As of now, have played the following courses, but still need to review:
    Highbridge Gold
    Highbridge- Woodland Greens
    Highbridge- Chestnut Grove
    Highbridge- Granite Ridge
    Plymouth Creek
    Crown College
    Elm Creek Preserve
    Volrath Park
    Jaycee Quarry Park
    Abendeshein

HAve the highbridge ones written on paper, somewhere, wanted to make sure I started and finished each in one go. they are so good, I need to write a review that will do them justice. So ive been stalling, as I continue to scribble more notes. This weekend, this weekend itll get done (we'll see). You're an inspiration to us all, mike. Keep fighting the good fight
THAT IS AWESOME!!!!! Is Parkside in all winter?

    Hey, I heard two things
    1) Baraboo Lions Club DGC is installing concrete pads, as many as they can before the snow comes.
    2) UW-Whitewater added 6 more holes to their course to make it an even 18. Apparently the new ones are better than the old ones, too.

Just wanted to share what info Ive gotten. But 21 holes on Prairieside?!?!? Nice!! They def had the space for it. Ill have to check it out one of these wkends. If we end up heading there at the same time, maybe we can carpool to racine? Let me know, otherwise, dang, you are super-obsessed. I can see it now, harr=first diamond reviewer. Get er done, see if you can get all 48 states played!!
Howler? No, I hadnt heard about it at all. I was planning on being in Madison this wkend. How much does the howler cost?
