HyzerBomb Squib Review

OK, so the first thing I did was cut out the bottom of the "putter pocket." This lets the putter (an Anode in this case) set down enough to zip the pocket closed.

Next, I built a frame from 1/2" PVC piping. The bottom center bars serve to solidify the base as well as provide a cradle for the discs.

Finally, I cut out the thin material between the two main compartments. The "main" compartment's zipper is just too shallow to offer much utility, and the second compartment is too small. So I fixed it by just creating one compartment. I settled the frame into the bag, and there we go. It fits 6 in the frame and 1 in the putter pocket. There is potential for more disc space, but I need to tinker some more.

On the plus side, it stands up solid with no more risk of falling over than any other bag.

Awesome work on the mods man, I may give some of those ideas a go. I'm still rocking mine about as often as my NutSac. That sounded bad but you get my drift.

This bag looks similar to the design I was heading to in my bag project, only the discs would be in a more organized manner. Sling style bags like this are good for playing with.

Unfortunately the bottom just isn't deep enough front-to-back to put discs in sideways without really pushing on the shape of the bag and that ends in some uncomfortable lumps in the back. But I'm still messing around with it.

Tinkering a little more, I removed a couple parts of the frame to open up some front-to-back room. Currently there is just a piece of cardboard in the back to prevent the disc's dome from creating an uncomfortable bulge. Eventually I can fasten some corrugated plastic directly to the frame to make it even more solid. Right now it has 10 in the bag and 2 putters in the front.

A bit on the outside, the side pocket holds my bug spray and powder fine. The mesh drink holder is borderline useless so I use it for my iPod speakers and attached an insulted Nalgene cozy to the strap. There are plenty of little cloth loops on the bag at every zipper, so I had no problem finding a place for my birdie beads/towel/tags. The little top pocket holds my mini/pencil/scorecard.

All in all, it makes a pretty good temporary/casual bag so far. I may go with Steeze's approach and settle a divider my frame just to keep them all from rubbing together while you're carrying it. 10 is kind of tight in the main compartment.

Phew, I'm kind of addicted to tinkering with this bag. Mostly because I plan on buying a Grip and I heard a rumor that they were going to start offering more colors shortly. So I may be using this is a temporary for a bit.

This time I just solidified the frame. I cut out a section of padding from an old Lightning Discs bag I had that was jus being used to hold stuff in my laundry room, lol. It created a bit of a U-cradle so the discs don't all sit on different parts of the frame (the frame fit 6 with the front and back bars, but fit 10 without them. However, the front and back 2 discs would sit up higher on the frame rather than in the groove meant for discs.)

Then I waterproofed from cardboard front and back pieces with back duct tape. It's far from permanent, and I can always switch to corrugated plastic in the future if need be. I just didn't have any handy and didn't feel like making a trip to Lowes.

Put it all together with some zip-ties and the frame is good to go.

The frame now holds 10 comfortably without any awkward disc sitting or shifting. It should handle a round well without the discs all poking in weird directions.

Also, I haven't done it QUITE yet because I didn't have any fabric thread, but I also appropriated a small velcro pocket and pencil holders from the Lightning Discs bag to sew onto the bag's side pocket. This should be an easier way to keep a scorecard/pencils than inside the putter pocket. Hopefully allowing me to tinker more in there soon.
