New Virginia Courses

Is the retired golf course Goose Creek? I used to play there, beautiful setting. Hard to believe they're not building homes or data centers there. I see Westpark no longer seems to be open, maybe there?

Nope Goose Creek got turned into a bunch of houses.

Also a ton of issue in the area regarding Data Centers, would seem the new power plant that was just built "Potomac Energy Center" is already out of power due to the influx of the Data Center market the past few years.

"Some" Data Centers in the region are looking at Natural Gas Turbine generators as a primary source of power as a result.

Sounds great! I hope to be in that area next summer and would love to give it a spin.
It will be a lot of fun. Great diversity without being too extreme in any one direction. The owner did the design and I went in and offered some advice which resulted in a few changes. To be clear Seven Springs is not the one I was talking about previously as not ready to be disclosed- that one is still a secret. :)

I thought part of it burned. Is it intact?
Holes 3, 4, and 5 were in the recent fire. But fortunately the playing areas had been recently cleared and the fire only burnt the wooded rough area. NONE of the baskets were touched. The fire was actually helpful in the course maintenance, lots of briars were destroyed.

Work is almost ready to begin on a second course in Wilderness Presidential Resort in Spotsylvania. New course will be 18 holes, fully wooded, and par 57-58. Design work is 80 percent done and will hopefully be complete later today. Goal is playability without completed tees by Labor Day and completion of tees some time in early fall. This is a partnership between the Spotsy Disc Golf Club and Wilderness Presidential Resort.

I remember it being wooded bordering the open 9 Hole course. Perhaps there?

Negative, in a different part of the resort entirely. All the wooded area surrounding the current course is National Park Service property (battlefield)- line is literally a few feet into the woods all around.

Received final approval yesterday roughly 1:30, was cutting trees at 2:00. 3 holes cut in yesterday- more today. There is a sh*tload of dragging to be done. This will eventually be Hole 8- as always camera does not relate elevation well.hole 8 smaller.jpg

Best 5 days of work on any course I have ever worked on... from approval on Tuesday to Sunday afternoon we have the initial cut in complete on 15 1/2 holes and cleanup done on 14 1/2 of those. All holes fully wooded. This includes about 35 man hours of chainsaw work and about 120 hours of clean up. When you get 20 people out for a workday things happen. My local club rules.

Weather takes a turn for the worse today as summer rolls in- the cooler temps/lower humidity last week were the reason I pushed so hard to get a lot done. Goals for this week will be to finish cutting and clean up. At that point we will be able to throw a few shots, establish final pin positions, and get started on chipping a ton of stuff.

Looks like some great work JB, you and the crew are definitely THEY.

Not seeing the first course listed on here (or that other website), is it open, or still a WIP?

Looking at Google Maps, I'm seeing a pretty large RV campground, might try to stop by there one day. (y)

other course in the resort- my friends who live in their RV speak well of that aspect of the resort.

Stands in stark contrast to the amount of help we were able to generate at a certain course north of here.

Definitely not Curtis, that place was looking amazing yesterday.

But that other course indeed didn't get a lot of help that was needed.

That's impressve. I remember the first day of the big redesign at Seneca to 27 holes. There were around 30 folks out there in the dead of winter and we only got through four holes and started on the fifth.
