Gannon Buhr has currently earned approximately $67,000 USD in just 14 events (where he has cashed). That's about $4,800 USD per event. If he can maintain this pace, he will set a new season record for tournament prize money earnings, which currently belongs to Kristin Tattar at $116,247 in 2023.

PS! There are currently 6 FPO and 14 MPO players in the TOP 20 tournament prize money earners list [June Update!].
  • Gannon Buhr (MPO) has earned the most cash in 2024 so far, a total of $67,069 in 14 event.
  • Ohn Scoggins leads the pack in FPO division with a total of $36,329 earned in 16 events ($2,270.56 per event).

Keep in mind that the "big payout" tournaments are still to come. 3x Majors, 2x Playoffs, 2x DGPT+ events and the DGPT Championships at the very end of the season.

What is the current season record for tournament prize money earnings?

$4,700 per tournament is a significant amount. I thought that they earn less in such tournaments. When you look at this prize money, you immediately imagine what you could spend it on. So far, I only receive prizes in casino bonuses on gamblizard.ca and I think that this is just the beginning. Of course, you always want more, but for this you need to develop. I often read and watch on Google and YouTube about how people earn money in tournaments in games and sports. This motivates me a lot.

The amount of money disc golfers make in tournaments is astounding. Gannon Buhr proves that the sport can make real money at the professional level. Just wow.

But only the top 10-15 in either division could ever make a living at it WITHOUT sponsorships. At the June update above, the 10th place MPO player was at $18k. Maybe double that for the entire year (perhaps 2.5 times) and once you get outside the top 10, you are only making $50k a year in earnings MAX. Outside the top 20, one is probably making less than $25k. That is gross income before expenses. You then have to subtract out gas mileage/airfares, hotels or RV payments, entry fees, discs, bags, an assortment of clothes/shoes for wind, rain, cold, hot, etc, and you are likely down in the minimum wage arena. Most of these tournaments are over $200 each to enter. That's about $5k a year right there. Yes you get to do what you love, but only a few would ever make a true living at it...without sponsorships. Now with...is an entirely different story!

Update.

Gannon Buhr has currently earned $146,432 this season in tournament prize money and has a career earnings of $341,212—meaning ~43% of his total earnings have come this year!

Nothing off Gannon, because dude's just ballin'.
But IMO, Kristin's total is more remarkable because MPO payouts are usually bigger.

And nothing off either of them, but MPO and FPO payouts are bigger than ever. DGPT still seems still be riding the post covid DG boom, getting bigger sponsors and bigger and bigger purses.

When they were dominating the sport, McBeth and Pierce never had the opportunity to play for the same kind of money.

Think of what Climo and Korver would have raked in had purses been anywhere close to today's payouts. Juliana made more in 2023 than she did in any two (or maybe three) years she won World's ...combined.

It's like comparing box office sales of Avatar to Gone with the Wind. People paid something like $1 to see Gone with the Wind. At $7-$10 a pop to see Avatar, it grossed way more selling fewer tickets.

If I am not mistaken, the DGPT events are even higher. Not 100% sure how much Majors cost, but I am sure they cost a lot.

Via DGPT: "Registration fees will start at $300 for MPO and $300 for FPO. Some events, such as the playoffs, will have higher registration fees."

I played at the DGPT Elite Event in Estonia, the European Disc Golf Festival and the tournament registration fee was at 250 euros/275 USD alone.
