Which discs for which distances?

I'm trying to see what discs people use for specific distances

So the question is which type of disc would you use for shots:

275'-300'?

300'-330'?

330'-370'?

370'-400?

And I'm looking for just general type discs like mids, fw, dd

NOT specific discs

Playing for half a year now, so still learning stuff but maybe something like this...

275'-300'? normal shots - mids ; flat tunnel shots - Fairway drivers

300'-330'? still trying to gain distance so that's pretty much a FD distance for me already

330'-370'? FD/DD

370'-400? DD, but 400' is pretty much most I get in normal circumstances

I switch the class of discs depending on the hole and circumstances like the wind. How fast and what angle the disc needs to land skip or not, danger of tree hits and if there is minimal bouncing distance etc. I need a run up for flat land no wind 275' putter drive so if there is no room or the ground is rough the chances of going to a mid rise dramatically. Even more so in the wind. Those numbers are high for people that don't throw as far as you do because the majority don't reach 275' with putters.

300' is a mid shot normally for me but on rare occasions i might pound out a putter there and if it is a stand still a distance driver. 330' is not consistent mid distance for me even on a good day when warmed up at least if it is not a Coyote. Seeing as my rare max with a Comet is 330' and the rest of the mids are shorter save for a few optimal Buzz shots in field practice i better go with fairways often times. Do i? Err nope unless it is tight enough or windy enough to make me doubt myself or the flip of the Coyote.

370' is too close to my record with a run up with FWs to be consistent so it is driver territory for me. Beast is a long FW so it's a natural fit.

I've been known to throw the Beast even on holes that are 400' or more. Even though some flip seems to happen usually beyond 400'. I cannot say if it is the dis or wrist roll punching at full power. Since i'm not consistent at that power i do use max D drivers often from about 380' and up if the fade is not a problem. Because i'm not terribly athletic and work leaves me stiff and tired most of the time so i am rarely 100 % when playing and need compensation. Damn Viagra and ole age :)

Totally depends on the line available. Is there height to work with? How much left to right room do I have? Where is the wind coming from?

I know it's not the answer you are looking for, but I have one general answer for this question that has always served me well:

Throw the shortest disc that will get you there on the line you are most confident throwing that day.

Sometimes I can park a 300' hole with a putter, other days that same hole is better served by spiking an overstable utility disc, other days it's a mid. imho only lots of field work combined with a bag that doesn't change every other week will accurately answer this question for you.

270'-330' - Fairway driver
330'+ - Speed 10 driver

I have faster discs, but my form has fallen apart to the point where they don't really help.

< 250 - Putters unless ceiling/wind prevents

250-300 - Mids unless ceiling/wind prevents

> 300 - Fairway drivers.

Fastest stuff I throw on a regular basis are Firebirds and Roadrunners. Firebird for anything headwind, Roadrunner for tailwinds. Trying to up my consistency/control on the Teebirds before moving up to faster stuff.

So mids usually top out at 300' for everyone? So anything 300'+ seems to be a fairway?

My main thing is trying to figure out which discs to use at 315-320'? Fairways skip around an awful lot for me...

No. Open field and wind allowing, I can push putters upwards of 330, and mids upwards of 370. These aren't common shots by any means, but in ideal conditions, they're comfortable.

Shot plannable executable on the tee mid distance for me is 300-310' and in field practice when the stars align and i'm warmed up my Buzz record (rare) is 347'' and Coyote 350' IIRC. Elite players can throw probably past 500' with mids.

So many variables go into that, there really is no set guide for this. Best bet, take a putter out to a field and see how far you can throw it on a normal shot, throw it about 15' off the ground dead straight and see how far it goes. From there, tweak it by giving more height and less height. Once you get the hang of that, you can use that to decide your max range for a putter. Take that at about 85% and realistically that is when you should comfortable use a putter.

Now if there's a hyzer/anny line or over hanging trees, all of that changes. Generally speaking, I won't use my putters for shots that require a decent amount of hyzer/anny. Thats when I switch to a mid-range or even a driver if it's closer to an L than a curve.

So to answer your question for me personally:
Putters:~210-250
Mids:250-300ish
Drivers:Any time.

I can push a putter out to about 300, but I have to throw it pretty high and sacrifice a lot of control which is my #1 reason for using a putter in the first place. Mids I can probably get out to about 330, but I turn and burn them too often this way, so again I limit it to about 300 max because that's my comfort range. I generally keep one very overstable driver in my bag for L shaped holes which I will throw on anything I think it is suited for. I've thrown it on 200' holes before because for me I felt it was my best option.
