So many variables go into that, there really is no set guide for this. Best bet, take a putter out to a field and see how far you can throw it on a normal shot, throw it about 15' off the ground dead straight and see how far it goes. From there, tweak it by giving more height and less height. Once you get the hang of that, you can use that to decide your max range for a putter. Take that at about 85% and realistically that is when you should comfortable use a putter.
Now if there's a hyzer/anny line or over hanging trees, all of that changes. Generally speaking, I won't use my putters for shots that require a decent amount of hyzer/anny. Thats when I switch to a mid-range or even a driver if it's closer to an L than a curve.
So to answer your question for me personally:
Putters:~210-250
Mids:250-300ish
Drivers:Any time.
I can push a putter out to about 300, but I have to throw it pretty high and sacrifice a lot of control which is my #1 reason for using a putter in the first place. Mids I can probably get out to about 330, but I turn and burn them too often this way, so again I limit it to about 300 max because that's my comfort range. I generally keep one very overstable driver in my bag for L shaped holes which I will throw on anything I think it is suited for. I've thrown it on 200' holes before because for me I felt it was my best option.
