Flawed, but Better than Expected 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 22, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

**** DISREGARD THIS REVIEW - There's a new front 9 open in late 2020, and a new back 9 expected in Spring 2021 ****

17 hole layout (because one basket is missing and the hole can't be played), spread across a beautiful college campus

+ The location is terrific. This is an immaculately-maintained campus with low traffic when school isn't in session

+ While a lot of the middle holes are open throws across campus quads, there are some very good sections: the first and last few holes use a low-lying area that has trees and tall grasses, holes #9 - #12 play in a heavily wooded section, holes #15 and #16 use elevation on a windy ridge

+ Not a "short course." Hole #1 is a 400' par 3. Although there are only 2 holes 400'+, there are 7 holes at 300' or more

Cons:

- Lousy teepads (old rubber, many partially or fully missing). You'll be teeing from grass or dirt on many holes

- No signage, and not very intuitive flow (see note about using uDisc below)

- Missing basket #8 - for at least five years,a according to reviews on this site

- Throwing across campus quads. The holes themselves are OK, with some positions protected by trees. But if school is in session, you're not going to be able to play without some waits and interruptions

- Some very long walks between holes make for an almost two hour round

Other Thoughts:

~ There are two layouts on uDisc. Unfortunately, the one with the map still includes the hole with the missing basket (#8). Because the flow is difficult to follow I really needed the map - so I used that layout and score a "partial round"

~ When I played, I noticed new (paver) teepads going in. The positions of the new pads suggested to me they might also be creating an improved layout - that might interfere with campus traffic less. I have contacted the college and am trying to find out more, so stay tuned

~ Better than expected, and better than many of the old reviews led me to believe. I had put off visiting this course for a long time, based on generally negative reviews. If you can overlook the flaws of the layout, this place provides a good "3 star" disc golf outing, and should be played

An interesting experience 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 23, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course is fairly challenging, with some very long holes, and holes that require very careful shots. It is in a nice area, and is a great activity for people to do on a college campus.

Cons:

Agreed, it probably will be tough to play this course with classes in session and people walking around. Even with a map, on a few holes it was confusing to find where the next one was, but fairly manageable.

Other Thoughts:

If you haven't played it, I suggest playing it once just so you get to try a new challenge.

Jekyll and Hyde 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 16, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

Immaculately manicured (for 14 of the holes) around a beautiful campus. Addams Family pinball machine in the student center behind the 5th tee. Perfect rubber teepads. Clever design of the open holes, using trees, creeks, elevation, OB roads and whatever's handy on campus... including a metal sculpture on hole 7 (which I hit).

Cons:

Holes 8 - 11 are completely ungroomed and unkempt wood holes. 8 is a blind shot to an overgrown fairway, where I lost my disc (thanks to whoever found it later and called me). Perhaps they play better in the winter? I should have picked some corn...looked tasty. I'm pretty sure the listed distances are way off on half the holes (no way hole 7 is 482 yards). Tees are unmarked and often far astray, so print out the online map at lvdiscgolf.org! Essential! I played hole 14 instead of hole 6, and that was with the map.

Other Thoughts:

I would like to go back in the winter to play the woods holes, but then the campus might be crowded then. This course is almost awesome, but it still worth a look. I can't say enough about the beauty of the campus and the friendliness of the few people i ran into.

Enjoyable stop 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 14, 2008 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

18 new tee pads. DIScatcher baskets are easy to see. Mixture of open and wooded holes with not overpowering length. Course is well maintained. Short distance from other Lehigh Valley courses, as well as Interstate 78.

Cons:

The course has a lot of OB roads that are close to pins. The campus buildings are hittable on several holes so shot selection is quite key. No water fountains or restrooms. 8th hole is a blind shot around a corn field.

Other Thoughts:

If you're in the Valley for a few days or live near the campus, it's worth a round or two. However, if you're only around for a day, I'd spend more time at the other great courses.
