Remarkable Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 7, 2020 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- New baskets
- Multiple tees
- Outstanding variety
- Great for both novice and advanced players
- Responds well to bad weather
- Ample parking and trash cans
- Great flow

Cons:

- Long tees are dirt
- Creek can potentially steal discs

Other Thoughts:

This might be my favorite course. It has variety, plenty of ace runs, and tremendous upkeep. An abundance of wood chips keep puddles and mud to a minimum. The shot selection is great, in the fact that there are many holes that have multiple lines to the basket. A novice can play this course and not be overwhelmed by tough shots, while and advanced player can join and practice throwing putters/alternate lines to attempt to rack up a streak of birdies. It's mostly a pitch-and-putt for seasoned players, but a fair challenge for newbies.

It's so fun to play this course. Great for night rounds. The flow makes sense and there are signs on most tee pads. There are also brand new, easy-to-spot baskets. Multiple tees are an added bonus, albeit dirt and yellow brick markers for the long pads. The creek flows pretty strongly and can sometimes steal a disc if it is murky.

Overall, this course is tremendous. With another course being very close by, this can serve as a great warm-up round before letting some longer shots fly at Towne Lake.

My Main Course - Fun! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 10, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Shady, I can get a round in fairly quickly. I can see the basket and not have to hike to get a glimpse of it. John Houck was involved in the design. Great for beginner or intermediate such as myself. I'm sort of hooked on going over there ! Has a few holes that make me nervous about losing my disc or ruining my score : 1 , 6, 16, 17 come to mind. I really like hole 13 320ft downhill to the right with a major tree in the way. Love that hole. Never birdied but par quite a bit. Keep going left ! Hole 16 is haunted by discs in the creek memories ! Left is Scary. I keep throwing too high there. Have fun !

Cons:

I have gotten some real grief over there in windy or even otherwise with the creek dangers. Losing discs , hurting my knees. Sometimes rescue the disc.

Other Thoughts:

Try it you'll like it!

Favorite Course!! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 1, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Condensed course, so you can knock out a round in a short amount of time.

- Good array of shots. You have a few wide open, a lot of narrow through trees, a couple long dog legs, and a few that make me nervous every time (like hole 1).

Cons:

- No map of the course, so first time out can be a little confusing but overall the course is easy to follow.

- A few holes are so close that the baskets are less than 100 ft apart so you have to be careful on busy days not to get hit by someone going for the wrong basket.

Other Thoughts:

This is my "home" course and really enjoy playing it. It is challenging for advanced players but easy enough for newbies to be able to develop skills and learn the game. Stay away from the creek at all costs if at possible. It's nearly impossible to climb up and down without help.

Great short - shaded course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 29, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

+ The shade (next best course is Lake Lewisville)
+ Glorious tall trees on Holes 3-6
+ Well layout excellent use of space
+ Short, but next time I'll try long tees
+ Clean park & concrete tees
+ Challenging creek near by

Cons:

- Dry now but after a rain very sticky muddy
- Busy on saturdays & sundays
- Challenging creek along side most holes
- Creek bank is steep and water surprisingly deep, lotta lost discs down there

Other Thoughts:

Just threw 18 yesterday, after pulling a ham string, so I wanted short, fairly level course to walk. Threw 4 lay ups (putting range) & felt pretty good. When I was throwing everyday, few summers ago, played partners with a local kid & we threw 9 under. He said he's seen 12 under for the course?

My favorite Par 3 Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 30, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

1. This couse is very simple to navigate, you may have to ask a person for 1 or two of the hole locations, but in general its a easy enough layout.

2. Like I said earlier, its a PAR 3 course (even though two the holes are labelled par 4). This makes it fun because you think you can ace almost every hole, yet you really have to throw a good shot in order to even come close.

3. It has great tree cover and the trees come into play on most holes. The tree cover makes it great to play on sunny days.

4. Its long enough to call it an 18 hole course, but short enough to finish in a short period of time. Two people can finish this course in under 1.5 hrs easy.

5. It is well maintained. Never run into issues with high grass or weeds.

Cons:

1. It can get crowed at times.
2. Due to the "zig-zag" design, other golfers and walkers come into play. (as well as cars).

Other Thoughts:

This is a great warm up couse before you play the other (much better and more difficult course) in Mckinney. (Just on the other side of 75).

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 9, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This is a really great beginner course,I can take my son with me who is 12 years old, and only played a few times and he can get through the whole course throwing one or two over on each hole and not get discouraged and still want to come back and play again.

Cons:

A few signs missing, but its still an easy course to follow once you figure out where hole 3 is.

Other Thoughts:

If your new to the game this is a really good course for you to try out, and like everyone else has said, you can play this one in the heat and not get worn out because of all the huge shade trees

Kiss My ACE! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 14, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a real par 3 style course and it is a great little gem. There are a couple of holes where an ace is unlikely, but most of them are very reasonable for many golfers to reach in one throw. The holes are not all short straight aways. There are some good tree placement and some slight elevation. The course is fairly easy to follow along without a map, since the signs are decent and the baskets have the hole numbers on them. The concrete pads are in great shape and long enough for this course. There are lots of beautiful older trees on this course and a deep creek thst makes a few risk reward type holes here too. There was a message board and great parking for this course also. I didn't see any bathrooms.

Cons:

The hole lengths do not have much in variation. It is too bad that the creek is so deep that retrieving a disc from it is not likely for the average golfer. I never mind the risk/reward style holes, but it does suck to know a bad shot could mean you may not recover the disc. I really am stretching the cons here. There is not much wrong at this course.

Other Thoughts:

The Fun Factor for me was good. I actually enjoyed playing here and working on my accuracy. This is also a great place to enjoy your short game. McKinney is worth a road trip from just about anywhere. Both course here are great.

Beginner course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 15, 2007 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Easy par 3 course. I learned to play on this course. Lots of tall trees line the fairways so you can practice straight shots. Water hazards on a number of the holes, but nothing to daunting.

Cons:

Parking area can be a pain when soccer games are going on.

Other Thoughts:

Play the pro tees if you want to make this more challenging. Most of them are marked, if not, just back up a ways. Number 7, the dog leg left is the best hole on this course.

Other Thoughts:

the mandatory markers make for a much more challenging round for beginning players

Long Tees 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 19, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Hands down the best course to play in the heat of the Texas summer. Only two holes with no shade.

Cons:

Course is on a flood plane and gets very muddy after rain and some holes will stay muddy for a lack of grass.

Other Thoughts:

So nobody can find the longs? Ron Sillyman, Phil Clark and I put numbered bricks in the ground to mark the front edges of the long boxes. These directions are typically written as if you were standing on concrete box facing the basket.
1. Behind you on the right.
2. Straight back at the corner of the bridge. Tee from the sidewalk and throw over the creek. Gold Tee straight back an est. 80' from the sidewalk.
3. On your left even with the Tee.
4. Back to the right, next to a tree, short of the gully. Gold across the gully but the grass grew over the bricks. If you find them, uncover them for me!
5. Back and a little to the left.
6. Back to the right, next to a tree.
7. Straight back.
8. Straight back.
9. Straight back, way back, next to a tree short of the gully.
10. Straight back, all the way to the top corner of the hill.
11. Back to the right near the bench.
12. Down the hill to the right in the woods. On the right side of 11 fairway. Close to 16 long.
13. Back
14. On the left.
15. On the right.
16 . Straight back in the woods. Gold aka the horse shoe. Left way left next to a powerline pole.
17. Left near the creek bank. short of 16 basket. Throw down the creek (or around for a 3)
18. Back to the right past the Alex Clark sign.

Very Nice Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jan 10, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

I am impressed by this course. The holes are all fun to play, even if you do wind up doing something wrong, it isn't too hard to recover from a mistake. I was a fan of the signs. (although a few were missing their signs) Excellent course for new players to learn and practice on.

Cons:

Steep banks on the water hazards make retrievals very difficult. Unless you have a tool, getting your disc back might be an issue. A lot of players were disc fishing, and it sometimes slows play.

Other Thoughts:

I plan to play this one often. It is definately a new favorite. I enjoyed the back nine a little more than the front, but every hole is fun. Most of the baskets are directly in front of the tees, but the trees keep it interesting.

Great all around course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 8, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The course is just fun to play. Most of the players are regulars and are very friendly. The signs are informative. The course is well mantained. There is a good variety of holes from short, to dog leg left, dog leg right, tunnel shots, lightly wooded shots, and open fairway shots. There are trash cans everywhere and the parking is great. The course flows well, It starts you out by your car takes you on a nice stroll through the woods across a bridge along the creek and drops you back off by your car.

Cons:

A few signs are missing. It is pretty easy to find where the hole and next tee are but if you have any questions just ask one of the nearby players who are friendly and willing to help.

Other Thoughts:

I really enjoy playing this course. Whether I shoot a fews shots under or end up over I always want to play another round. And if I can't get to it that day I look forward to playing it the next time. The creek is deeper than it looks in spots. If you throw a disc in and it isn't visable from the bank I don't recommend going in after it. I play here quite often with a group of friends and it hasn't gotten old yet. I don't ever know if it will. If you are playing around dusk where pants and long sleeves or bring bug spray because the mosquitoes are out.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 31, 2008 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

What makes this course excellent is the fact that, even though it is heavily wooded, the distances are realistically set so that par is obtainable.

There is enough shade to play this course at any time of day, even during the hottest part of summer.

Even with missing signs the course is easy to follow and has great flow.

The concrete tee pads are wider at the back which is good for people who need alot of room to scissor step. This should be the standad tee pad for all courses.

Cons:

The river is deep! Use caution!

Many signs are damaged or missing.

This course is a tiny bit too easy or I would have given it another 1/2 disc higher rating.

Other Thoughts:

Unlike most heavily wooded courses, this one will not frustrate the beginner.

One of my faves 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 1, 2008 Played the course:never

Pros:

Am and Pro tees. Shots selections.

Cons:

Deep water hazards / easily lost discs.

Other Thoughts:

The course plays as a pitch and putt with some challenging obstacles from am. tees. The course is significantly longer from the pro tees with a similar degree of obstacles and hazards.

*The pro tee boxes are pretty difficult to find, but every hole has one. They are marked with bricks flush with the ground with the hole # on them. The best way to find them is to look where the dirt is worn behind the am. tees somewhere, they are not concrete like the am tees.

Very fun course! 2+ years drive by

Pros:

Well laid out course. Informative signs at tees. Lots of tall trees to provide shade and good obstacles. Several tees back up against creek. Very fun to play, all around.

Cons:

Some of the holes play a little short.

Other Thoughts:

Large creek winds through course. About 15 feet down in parts with steep, muddy sides. Pray that your tee shot on hole 1 doesn't pull too far to the left.

Highly recommended course overall.
