Pros:
Armco Blue is the longer, advanced level course out of the two courses onsite. The park features pretty drastic elevation throughout, which is used fantastically on this course. I don't think there's a single flat hole on the whole course.
The trees are going to be your main challenge other than the elevation. Every hole has at least a few trees lining the fairway. Most have a lot of trees. Staying on the fairway is key here. If you can do that, you'll do alright. If you don't, you'll struggle.
The baskets here are Discatchers with a pretty blue top band. Not the brightest looking baskets, but they look sharp and it's not too hard to spot them anyway. The baskets are all mounted nicely and they catch great.
As of the spring of 2022 there are brand new concrete tees on every hole, both longs and shorts. These are very nice. All are poured level and have nice grip. It definitely sounds like an improvement over the old tees, which I heard weren't the most level tees out there. Two tees on every hole.
The majority of the holes are longer here and favor the big arms from the long tees. Even the short tees looked to be pretty lengthy. The long throwers will really enjoy this course.
The design is well thought out here. There's only 1 hole that kind of felt like filler. I want to say it was hole 10. Somewhere in that area. The rest are tight, tough fairways with roll away potential at every turn.
The course is permanent and free to play. There are restrooms by the lot as well.
Cons:
It seems to be a theme over in this general area, but the tee signs are pretty terrible. They have the hole # and distance along with the hole sponsor. That's it. A hole map and next tee arrow would go a long way here. Now that they redid the tees hopefully the tee signs are the next order of business. As is, they're a definite con.
There's a couple longer, not obvious walks between holes. Using the map on Udisc will mitigate this but without a map you'll end up wandering around for a bit to find the next pad.
There's a number of spots where you throw over or very near the park roads. Just be sure you're aware of your surroundings.
Other Thoughts:
Armco Blue is one of the tougher courses I played on a long road trip full of tough courses. I saw the pictures and thought it can be that bad, it's just a hilly park course, no big deal. Nope. I mean it is a hilly park style course, but these hills are no joke. Bring plenty of fluids and expect a long round. This course is a workout. I definitely recommend this course if you're in the area or travelling through. Bonus points for having a second course onsite.
