This was the first course I played after moving back to the US. I think this is a fun and challenging course for all ranges of players. The standout holes are 7,8 and 9. 7 has a nice risk reward where if you have a bigger arm you can try throwing over the tall grass to hit the green as opposed to laying up before it. 8 is a very challenging blind dog leg left that has some uphill and then downhill action. 9 is just a cool tee shot with a sloping green. The course has fair OB and if you want to make more of the tall grass OB I could see that becoming much more challenging. Its easy to navigate and easy to find. Great place to bring your family with tons of other things to do. I have seen that many people are disappointed that the course was changed to 9 holes. As I have never experienced those I cannot knock this course for that reason.

It's hard to follow up a Sisyphus review but I'll try. It's been a few years since the last review, so I'll hopefully be able to add a few useful tidbits. This is a fine course with a nice mix of strong wooded holes and well-utilized open holes. Apparently, a significant redesign happened in May 2016 so I'd pay more attention to the reviews posted after that. Overall, I really enjoyed my round here and would definitely recommend it to anyone.

This is a really nice park. Maintenance is impeccable. Teepads and signs are top-notch. You'll be spoiled with bridges and stairs through the wooded sections. The mowing areas nicely shape the open holes and walkways between holes. Hole length was appropriate for the fairway challenges. There were some 150-175ft holes that required absolute precision while some 400-550 ft holes that allowed some room to rip.

I followed the DGCR map that led me to the back of the park, where I started on hole 8 and ended on 7. I actually enjoyed the flow here where I had 8 and 9 in the open to warm up the arm, then the super technical woods from 10-15. If you start on 1 on the south end of the park, you'll get the open experience for the first 9 holes.

12, although brutally tough, had a great line through the trees downhill 300ish ft to the basket. 16 was a welcomed re-entry to grassy areas from the woods. It has a beautiful island area for the green on this 370ish ft bomb.

The wooded holes were packed together a little too closely. If it's busy out there, you'll certainly have to pay attention others throwing. Some holes are pretty close to or play over walking paths. I have no idea how popular this place is with the walkers but it's definitely something to be aware of.

Nitpicking, but not a huge fan of the Mach 3 baskets. Figured a park/budget like this could do better.

Hole 2 lacked character. It was merely a 220ft wide open connector between 1 and 3. Hole 1 was pretty obstacle-less too.

This was a fun play and I'd be glad to have it as a home course. I think the open holes have just enough challenge to make it interesting but advanced players will expect birdies. The wooded holes are really strong and elevate the variety at Avon. I think this doesn't quite merit the 4.0 rating due to some of the open blandness so I'm feeling good with the 3.5. Nonetheless, this is a fun course that I'll gladly seek out the next time I'm in town.

Some of the tree holes are still throw and pray, unless one is very good.
Only one hole (#9) that forces a right forehanded shot or backhanded annie the rest are straight or favor a RHBH throw.

The new layout is much better. Lengthening the baskets was good. Placing the holes a little further away from each other is good. Hole #8 no longer throws to a basket beside the kids playground area. Tree holes should get better when the Ash trees that have been killed are removed. Well done on the redesign....

The landscaping and the park views are great, pictures don't really do it justice. There is good elevation for Indiana, most courses are flat and just long throw after long throw, that can get painful and boring. This course has a good mix of short and long holes with each sign at the tee box providing you with a good map of the hole and also it has a "pro" and a "rec" (recreational) par score for each hole. The "pro" is always par 3. The "rec" is often 4 or 5. There are a few ACE opportunities, but 1 hole (14 or 15?) is very difficult to get par.

IF it has rained recently you will probably need some good shoes, bring bug spray, and be prepared to get a little muddy in the woods.

Get the course map up on your phone or print it out because a few holes are a little crazy.

Some holes fly over one another and it's possible with a rouge through to really hurt someone. Be careful out there!

First off, this course is in an excellent location. It is a very clean, well-maintained park with a small pond that adds to the great environment. Having played lots of courses, even good ones, in trashy parks, this is not a minor factor.
- I was especially impressed at how many people were playing on the day that I visited. It is certainly not common in late December to see a decent number of people playing, and it speaks to the excellent job that is done maintaining the park and course.

Second, the layout is diverse in both length and obstacles. The front nine is mostly open, and back nine mostly wooded, but the holes do not get repetitive.

Third, there are numerous trash cans and benches throughout the course.

The lack of a signature hole is a definite con: there are lots of GOOD holes, but none that would necessarily stand out as GREAT.

Holes 5 and 7 baskets are located right next to a walking path, with 7 playing just to the left of the path. Also, there is a playground area along the hole 8 fairway that could be hit with an errant shot. Make sure to be careful on these holes.

Finally, the tee pads are shorter than I'd like, but that may just be personal preference.

Overall, I thought this course was solidly above average. It requires a solid long drive as well as a precise short game, and the excellent surrounding environment is a selling point for me. I will definitely visit again!!!

Nice concrete tees. They are a little short. All of the holes not in the woods have gravel extensions for a good run up.

18 DGA baskets that are just as grippy as when the course opened. Practice basket makes 19 baskets.

Lots of variety. Elevation, open, wooded, tall grass, a few blind shots.

Great signs. Lists distance, par, map, and arrow to next hole. Sign posts have hooks for disc bags.

Well groomed course. Paved paths, benches, thick grass, set in a very nice park.

2 Playgrounds for kids, lake and pond for fishing. (No holes have lake hazards with exception of hole 18. Errant throw on a windy day can get you into the lake).

Very peaceful and scenic course.

Course has been resigned at some point in the past 4 years so that walks from parking lot to the course is shorter. I enjoyed the original layout much better. Course flows less than the original layout. Backtracking from hole 7 to hole 8. Inconvenient walk from hole 15 to hole 16. Shortest path cuts through fairway of hole 13.

Danger factor: Some of the tees are close to fairways for different holes; hole 2 tee near 18 fairway, hole 4 tee near 17 fairway, hole 5 tee near hole 4 fairway. When course is busy make sure to be aware of surroundings.

Course can become very hot during holes 1-9 and 16-18 since there is not much shade. Bring liquids.

Course/park needs several trash cans. Had to carry empty drink for half of the course.

This course is more of an intermediate course. Beginners will struggle and advanced players will still enjoy it.

I have never been disappointed with the drive to this course. It is a change of pace. For a central Indiana course, the elevation and wooded holes make this course worth it.

This course was very busy when I played it (3 PM on a Sunday). Avon / Brownsburg would benefit from 1-2 more courses. This is the best course on the West side of Indy.

When the trees grow in and if alternate tees were added, it would boost this course to a 4.

Plenty of parking,off Rockville Rd. or the north lot,that is more for locals. Kiosk with updated info. and a mailbox with color scorecards and pencils!..sweet! DGA baskets and tee signs. The baskets are all in great shape and catch well. The tee signs are basic and include all needed info. with "next tee" included. Concrete tees are level a have good grip. Benches,stairs & foot bridges have been added or upgraded, since the last time played. Thanks to the Boy Scouts for the Benches!..and the Stairs & Footbridges? The holes run from one extreme to the other. With Front 9 & #16,#18 holes being alot more open than the somewhat overly wooded holes. All skill levels will enjoy the course. The "Course Par" on the tee signs are generous enough for true beginners. Pros can make a few very long safari holes,on the front 9. Every player will enjoy wooded holes.

A little backtracking from #7 to #8 and crossing #13 fairway from #15 to get out of the woods to get to #16. It looks like most baskets can be moved? Why no alternate placements? The open & a few wooded holes are extreme. That beautiful Pond is not played. The concrete tees are short, which is most noticeable on the open holes. They are just fine for the shorter wooded holes.

A few of the open holes will benefit from an alternate placement,that should include a nice sized mound for a elavated putt. Just a handful of trees cut out of both fairways on #12 & #I3 would give an actual flight path. I truly believe a midget with a mini is the only player that can hit the current line. I played here the first year it opened. The original design had to be done by someone that didn't know, or very little about course design. The Redesign, two years ago now, was VERY Welcome! Thanks to the very active Hendricks County DG Club! If I remember correctly John Strifler spearheaded the redesign. Working with the Parks Dept. the Clubs "Wish List" was only half made true. The redesign was to move two holes out of the woods and make one the new #1. That WAS done for a better parking situation. The old layout had #1 in the back of the park and at the time there was no parking lot. Which meant EVERY park user parked in the neighborhood. To help the homeowners John did get the redesign. I believe it included moving the other hole out of the woods and incorporate its use around the smaller pond.

pretty fun course. wide open front nine, birdies oppurtunities nearly every hole. the back nine is a different story! its basically survival. its in the woods. fun though. another reveiwer called it "ridiculous"...well said. holes 16 and 17 are pretty sweet.

The front nine are wide open, and provide a good test of your long range game; if you have a reasonably long drive, birdie opportunities abound. This is also a good opportunity to experiment with different types of throws, since most of the front 9 are wide open with little punishment for mistakes, as long as they aren't catastrophic. If you are a beginner and have a shorter drive ( >250ft), some of the holes will be tough to par.
The back nine, being heavily wooded, require more precision, as well as a bit of luck, to escape under par. In the woods, you can put away your big driver, you wont be needing it here.
Throughout the course, bad putts are generally not punished very severely; this is good in that you can go for those longer putts, but also bad in that the risk-reward element is largely lacking. The tee pads and baskets are all in good shape.
The greatest asset of this course is its variety; the holes vary from long launches to tiny technicals. The one exception to this is the lack of right-bending holes, making this course favor the RHBH style heavily on most holes.

The front nine is pretty uneventful; there isn't really aren't any memorable challenges, and it is lacking in personality. As alluded to by some other reviews, if the lake on the park grounds, as well as some of the elevation changes, could be incorporated somehow into the course, the experience would be enriched.
The back nine is certainly more difficult; and a couple of the holes border on ridiculous with the amount of luck involved (the shot down one side of the creek and back up the other side). It can also be buggy back in the woods, but that is to be expected.
One of my only gripes from a maintenance perspective is the lack of trash cans. The park is kept clean, and litter is usually not a problem thanks to responsible players, but a few trash cans would be appreciated.

The course is situated in a well-maintained town park in a quiet neighborhood. There are a few blind tees, as well as pedestrian traffic, so be alert. Be sure to park at the town hall off US-36 for easy access. I live 10 minutes away, so I have played this course countless times. It matches up well against some of the other area courses, and is very beginner-friendly (it is where i learned to play disc golf). Overall, if you find yourself in the Westside Indy area, this course is worth the trip.

New layout is a bit shorter than original, incorporates more variety of long vs. short holes; Greater chance to start well and end well - one less hole in the woods!

You have a short walk from hole #7 to 8, as from 15 in the woods, to 16 in the open; the modified flow, Play it once and you've got it; Watch for walkers on hole #7 and #8; watch for other golfers on #12 and #15

-plenty of space to air out long distance bombs, big arms a plus on some holes
-some technical woods holes
-active disc golf club
-new course design makes it flow better

-very short teepads. with some decent footwork you should be able to get a your full amount of steps, in although there are a couple of holes where that isn't possible
-this course does have a walking trail, not really a con in the realities of a city park, but sometimes walkers can get in your way, just give them a minute
-the water and some of the hills could have been used more, but see below

I just updated this whole review, based on the last five rounds I've played in Avon, its a much better course than it was at this time last year. I'm also in the Hendricks County Disc Golf club and from what I know, the Avon Parks Department will not allow the club to even raise money to have longer pads installed. I know it took me a little while to get used to the short pads, but with a little patience you should be able to cope.

The park itself is as clean and taken care of as they come, and again, the new design for the course makes it play much better. Park behind the police station off of US 36 (Rockville Road) and follow the path towards the barn. The first pad is right there (and this is a tough pad) and the basket is next to the barn 300 feet away uphill, plays a little longer than 300.

***Brownsburg which is directly north of Avon should have a new course installed sometime in 2010 as well, so look out for that.

Very nicely kept park, with some long wide open shots and some tight wooded shots. Good variety from front 9 to back 9.

Some holes are confusing, and one of the wood shots has almost no opening for a decent shot. Some high grass makes discs hard to find. Minimal elevation changes.

Pretty fun course, a little too open on some holes, but great for driving practice. Woods shots vary and can be quite difficult. Overall, a fun course.
