Great Little Family Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 26, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

This nine-hole course is a welcome addition to Llano, Texas. It was designed as a family-friendly course to introduce the locals to disc golf, and it hits the mark well.

With hole lengths ranging from 157' to 229' this is a perfect course for starting folks out playing DG. For more experienced players, the course is good for working on approach shots and putts. Ace runs galore and nine easily birdiable holes.

Good concrete teepads with appropriate texture; nice signs with hole number, distance, and a good map; and brand new Innova Discatcher baskets make the infrastructure of the course as good as it gets.

While the terrain is generally flat there are some exposed boulders and enough trees and shrubs to create interest. There are quite a few newly planted trees on the course that will add to the challenge as time goes on.

The lake comes into play on holes 8 and 9, and is deep enough to hide your errant disc.

Cons:

If you are an experienced player this is a duece-or-die kind of course. All holes are easily reachable with a putter or midrange and there frankly isn't a great deal of challenge here. A good local player shot 8 under on his first round here.

Not a destination course and kind of off the beaten path. But certainly worth a round or two if you're in the area.

Other Thoughts:

I think that more communities could use short "starter" course like this. While they won't challenge an experienced disc golfer, they serve the useful purpose of introducing new folks to the sport.
