Great pitch and putt course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 8, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course is a textbook example on how to make a pitch and putt course. The course is not very long, with no holes over 250' which is a perfect distance for brand new players, and being in a town where there are no other courses for miles, this course should attract quite a few new players.

With all Houck designed courses, I was impressed with the amneities and that they were not lacking at such a small course. Great DisCatcher baskets, great concrete pads, a nice course map at the beginning of the course and colorful tee signs put on boulders at each tee. Even though navigation is fairly straight forward, I appreciated the maps. I also really appreciated the tape on the rungs of the basket pointing towards the next tee. It saved me a tad bit of time.

Even though the holes are short, they still have a little bit of variety on a few of them with obstacles like trees and water. I especially enjoyed hole 7 with its boulders taking up the entire length of the fairway. It was definitely unique.

This course has the potential to be fun for experienced players as the thought of shooting -9 was with me the whole time. Most players have the capability to birdie all 9 holes, but stringing them all together may be a bit of a challenge

Cons:

This course is off the beaten path tremendously and really is not worth going out of your way to play.

Although some of the holes had obstacles, many did not and it was a straight 200' shot with not a whole lot of challenge.

Other Thoughts:

I was thrilled to see that Llano got a course. I drive through Llano occasionally, and I think I will be stopping each time I am in, since it plays very quickly and is easily accessible off of the "main highway" in Llano.

Hopefully, this course will attract new players to play. This is a good place to start attracting those players.
