Local, introductory course 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 8, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Real baskets! Bakerview has been upgraded with real baskets, the 4x4 posts a thing of the past. Bakerview is handy for the locals and easy for kids or beginners. 2016 UPDATE: Concrete tees have been installed. They're funny, round ones, but each has its number and direction to basket stenciled on it. Baskets are also numbered now. If you have a friend or a kid who can toss a Frisbee, this is a beginner-friendly place to introduce him/her to disc golf.

Cons:

Wet. Downright soggy in winter, even several days after the last rain. Seriously consider wearing boots until Summer is in full swing. On summer evenings you may be playing though picnics. The first two holes closely parallel the outfield fences of two baseball fields - easy to find yourself in the wrong game. 4th tee is invisible from 3rd basket: go out to the sidewalk and backtrack a little.

Other Thoughts:

If Skagit County was thick with excellent disc golf courses, this one could fade away, but that's not the case. Locals need a place to play, and this one is within easy bicycling distance for a lot of kids and adults. If you're on a road trip on Interstate 5 and due for a break, pull off at the College Way exit, grab some grub, and scoot east a couple of miles for a picnic and a quick fix for your disc golfing habit.
When you have the time and the arm for something more serious, NSRA is just a dozen miles or so away, east of Sedro Woolley.

Passable 9 hole now 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 19, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Nice Park, well maintained. Course easy to follow. Designers make ok use terrain and trees.
2018 update: this is one of my 1st reviews, the course and I have both got better. :)
This fairly typical 9 hole park course is in a well appointed scenic course in eastern Mt Vernon. Since I originally played it they have added Baskets and med sized round concrete tee pads. Neither are top of the line but both serve their purpose. While short the designers have made pretty good use of what few trees and elevation there are to add a little difficulty and give you some different looks. 5-8 are the best.

Cons:

Very short, no tees or baskets. Wet grass sux to tee off from.
2018 update: it is still pretty short, but I have played worse. A coule holes are close together so an errant throw can endanger other fairways or tees. 1(especially) and 9 play close to a baseball field and volley ball court respectively so it is rather easy to throw close to non players involved in their own games.

Other Thoughts:

My Mom lives in Skagit Valley, and I will go practice in a field and pick random trees to throw at rather than drive here. Good example of what you can do with limited money and space @ a local park but if I'm going to drive I'll go to Sedro Woolley.
2018 Update: still not a destination course but a reasonable local course, met a couple people that learned there in last 2 years and they are throwing well and enjoying the sport. You can ask for more but it is filling it's niche well. It sounds like Sedro Wolley course is better maintained so that is your Skagit Valley destination course but this one is nice to hit on a pleasant evening. Fortunately my Mom now lives 5 min by bike from here, i will be playing it more often. :)
