Nice 9 hole course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 20, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

Easy to follow lay out,
Good course for beginners to learn on.
Short, but fair length overall.
Easy to walk.
Plenty of grass.
Concrete tee pads.

Cons:

Only 9 holes.
Isn't always easy to tell which basket location you are throwing to.
Not super challenging.
Sometimes a lot of park goers to avoid on throws.
Can get a bit backed up at times.

Other Thoughts:

Fun course to learn on. Not too difficult but does offer some challenge with trees and wind.

It's pretty fun! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 21, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

For a neighborhood 9 holer, this is a pretty fun course. I was pleasantly surprised by the distance on all the holes, making you have to really hit lines with power and accuracy for a birdie, and even some tough upshots if you hit a tree early, or hard. It's not a "gimme" course.

Tee signs are informative, and clean looking. The pads are concrete, though today they were wet and slick so I threw from the grass where possible, but they looked nicely done and easy to find.

For being a small area, I never felt like any of the playground equipment or other park amenities were in harm's way. There is a walking path, but isn't there always?

Baskets were in good condition. Nothing special, but just fine the way they are.

Cons:

Honestly, the cons here aren't really notable. The walking path here is a hazard, but just be aware. It wasn't a crowded day when I was there, so it wasn't a big deal.

The main reason this is not a 3, is that there aren't any particularly memorable, or outstanding holes to elevate the course. It's definitely a fine course, and very enjoyable, but for a 9 holer to get a 3 or higher for me, it need something special.

I think one of the early holes was close to a fence, but I don't remember ever being cautious of throwing in a yard.

Other Thoughts:

I was cautious about throwing over the ditch at the back of the park, and then did so anyway. But I think it was still a fine hole, no complaints other than my bad throwing.

Sometimes bagging these neighborhood 9's feels like a chore, but honestly I'd prefer this course over some of the bigger courses I've played in Houston. It was definitely worth it.

I Could Be Happy Playing Here On A Regular Basis! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 1, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Bayou Bend DGC is just fun. I really liked my round here and wish I could come back. It's a non-threatening, comfortable round as long as you can avoid the Bayou. It is steep and ugly and I gave it a wide berth.

The park is your typical city park bordered by a trailer court on one side, the bayou on one whole side, houses on one side and the street on the front . There is a community center at the front and a kids play structure on the side. The walking path is everywhere.

The course has great amenities. The concrete tee pads are large and grippy. There is a large two section course sign. One side had the typical rules of disc golf and the second part is a nice course map. The tee signs are wonderful little, circular green ones which are very solidly constructed as to be vandal proof. The baskets are DGA models with the red number on top.

Holes 3 & 9 are over 300' while the rest play in the 225' range. There were a couple of holes that I preferred. I like # 4, with it's basket surrounded by about a dozen trees. # 8' the short little hyser toss around the corner was great fun.

I believe players of all skill levels will enjoy this course. It could be beginner friendly but yet better rec players will get their kicks here. Intermediate and advanced players will want more distance and challenge than Bayou Bend can offer.

Cons:

# 1 has single wides just across the fence all the way down the left side.

# 3 has the deep and nasty bayou on the left side.

# 8 plays close to the last neighbor's fence. Newer players will hyser some discs into this yard.

Recreational distance and challenge.

If this course is ever crowded, players on the # 2 tee should be aware of the following group teeing off on # 1. You could get thumped here.

Other Thoughts:

# 8 is a problem with the neighbor's fence so close. I think the best solution here would be to move the basket to the right therefore decreasing the hyser angle that is needed. It wouldn't totally eliminate the problem but every foot you move that basket means fewer discs in that backyard.

I played Bayou Bend right after playing Centennial this morning and I feel this is a much enjoyable round. But in the end, this is still a 9 hole recreation course in a flat city park. 2.5 is a good rating here.

I'm a little confused as to the name of this course. On my official DGCR information sheet it states the course is called Bayou Bend DGC. On the map page, it's labeled Deer Oark DGC???????? It's such a pleasant little course they named it twice, like Walla Walla, Washington.

Not bad little course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 7, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Update: My view of the course has improved. We noticed (pictured) that every single hold has at least 1 permanent alternate pin placement. I'd say all but 1 make the course a good bit more challenging. #8 would qualify as vicious with the alt placement. The city has some really well thought out anchors for the baskets. Very well done. /Update
Well taken care of since it's around around the walking track, basketball court, and playground at the Burgess Rec Center. Surprisingly challenging little 9 hole course.
The 1st hole tee box is to the left of the park near the water tower. Took me a while to find. After that, it was pretty easy to find the next tee. DO NOT shank your shot on 1 since it will end up over the fence in the trailer park.
2, 5, and 6 are effectively tunnel shots. The chain location really forces you to either shape your shots, have a good backhand, or throw laser straight.
8 as mentioned is a blind hole. But, it is aceable. Again, I think those people on the corner house may get the occasional disc in the backyard but there is no chance of jumping that freakishly high fence.
9 has a tree dead spot in the middle of the fairway. I like it but it's a bit insidious. The final basket is covered with trees pretty much any approach you take.
Overall, a really good lesson in basic course management but it's still a really beginner friendly course. Very impressed overall.

Cons:

Update In the rain, the tee boxes do turn to mush after the 1st person plays from them. Just play to the side and you're golden. /Update
Kinda hidden.
Holy crap is it hot with no relief.
No clear posts for the tee boxes.
No course map or guidance.
The last three will fix themselves over time. I can't wait to see the course once the trees get really grown.
The tee boxes are filled with a gravel/hay/sand mix. Not super conducive to monster run ups unless you're willing to risk spraining your ankles.

Other Thoughts:

Due to a mistake, I ended up by the park over by City Hall. I walked around and went into city hall to ask where the DG park was. They looked at me like I was from Mars. So, it's a genuinely hidden gem.
The chains are absolutely brand new and in perfect virgin shape. I love them.
Short enough that I played 3 rounds pretty quickly but challenging enough to make me work for par.

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 2, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This is a short fun course that is right off of the Deer Park Recreation Center with brand new Mach 2 baskets and a well kept up lawn.

This course is not a typical neighborhood course as it demands line shaping off of the tee in order to get a 2. Hole 2 is a great example of this as you need to flick or throw an anny at a chance for a bird.

Hole 8 is a blind shot off of the tee. It adds a little bit of variety.

There are slight changes in elevation. Hole 6 has a tee on a hill and also has the basket on another hill.

The course is easy to follow. The dirt tee pads are easy to spot an not more than 40 feet away from the previous basket. You could play this course quickly in about 25-30 minutes.

Cons:

The tee pads are bad. They are an inch thick of a sand/dirt type mixture that you could easily roll an ankle in and they are very small which makes run ups impossible. Honestly, teeing off from the grass next to the tee or behind the tee is probably a safer and easier way to approach the hole.

On Hole 9 you are throwing towards a basket right in front of a playground. It would be hard to overshoot the basket on your drive but it can easily hurt someone.

This is just your average neighborhood course when it boils down to it. There are little trees to block shot but not enough to intimidate the average disc golfer. Almost all of the holes are straight forward and most involve little imagination off the tee.

Other Thoughts:

Like most neighborhood courses, this course is designed with the newer and casual players in mind. It is cool that the Deer Park Park and Recreations Dept. decided to install a disc golf course. I hope it gets use by the people nearby and it helps grow the sport.

This course has it's purpose. It's purpose is not to attract to the established golfer but to introduce new players. Frankly, it does that job perfectly.
