Good Beginner Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 6, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-I love courses at schools because it gets students involved in the sport (provided the PE teachers know anything about it). It's also a good influence on the adjacent elementary school which has put up a basic little course for their students.
-This short course uses just about every elevation change and obstacle on the space available. Holes 1, 2, 3, and 9 all play over or near the banks of a creek, which can swell up and run pretty quick after a storm. Every hole except 5 plays up or down in elevation.
-There is actually a course sign!! Not many of the school courses thought to put up a sign designating the starting point or even the name of the course.
-Generally well maintained course, except in the summer. The grass can get pretty high.
-This is also next door to Castle Heights Middle School, where there is another 9 hole course. It's only a short walk making it easy to combine the two into a fun little 18 holer.

Cons:

-The school is making it difficult to play hole one and I wonder if it will even be moved soon. They are building fences around a large portion of the fairway and the creek.
-The school owns a great deal of land that stretches from the school back to the interstate. There are a lot of woods to play in they took the time to do it. They could also have built this behind the baseball field behind the school, which is all wooded. It's a good use of the land they chose, but I wonder if they chose the right piece of land to build the course on.
-The gate that leads to the lower parking lot where the course begins is almost always locked, so you have to drive around. Enter on springdale rd and drive to the lowest parking lot on the left.

Other Thoughts:

Favorite hole: Hole #9. This one is a high risk, high reward hole. You shoot downhill to the left. If you overshoot, you are in the creek. The added challenge of the new fence also gives you a very narrow landing zone, which is almost always swampy.

Overall, this a fun course if you only have 20 min to play or if you have a newbie with you...then you can show off :) Easily a one-two disc course, but especially fun if you add in the 9 holes at CHMS.

Great course for High School 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 16, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great for beginners-well mowed/kept--won't lose your disc--mostly open. Good use of the space--hills, trees, creek, even rocks

Cons:

Can only play during off school hours. Seasoned players need only Roc and putter..

Other Thoughts:

I wish I had a disc golf course at my high school. I am an intermediate player--so enjoyed it. Since it is open, wind comes into play. South Pointe High School in the area also has a pretty neat and more challenging course on their campus.
