Pros:
A decent layout with a some very good holes along the river, but other holes play through picnic areas, a playground and walking trails.
+ The design stretches itself out to use all available natural features in the park: throwing around wooded areas and a lake, good use of available elevation at one end of the park, and a handful of holes that play right alongside the river
+ Hole #6 is in the middle of several holes playing back and forth across an open field. This one is a standout though: it's only 213' and downhill, but there's a hidden stream running behind the basket. An easy birdie, but risk if you overshoot
+ Hole #8 uses the same stream running behind the basket, but this time it's a 250' dogleg right, with the first part being a shot through a hallway of O.B. woods on the left and tall pines on the right. It's too bad there's a picnic pavilion on the right (you throw past it to make the dogleg)
Cons:
- I don't know how this course has survived all these years and not been pulled due to so many holes intersecting other park activities. It really can't be played if the park is at all busy - maybe nobody plays it?
- A few hole transitions require crossing fairways, and the layout is confusing at the far end of the park. You leave the park at one point to cross over a stream using a street, but then you walk the full length of the next hole, from basket to tee, to continue play. The signage is missing for several holes in this area too - so navigating with uDisc is essential
- Stretching the layout to use the riverfront means a few long transitions. You cross a road a few times. Nothing really bad, the extra walking adds time to your round
Other Thoughts:
~ Old concrete tees, DGA baskets and DGA "sticker" signage. Pretty typical for a town park layout installed 20 years ago. The ground has eroded around the tees (they're adequate length, but now they're "raised")
~ Overall a decent layout with some highlight holes, but it's unplayable if there's much other activity in the park. I was lucky enough to play it on a rainy Monday while bagging a handful of courses in the area. Not a destination by any means, but a good play, if you can time it right
