My name is Buck, and I like to Party 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 23, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

~Good variety of distances and wooded / open holes
~Set in a fairly remote area of a very nice State Park
~Concrete tee pads are in good condition
~Navigation and flow are well thought out
~Scenic course with a great atmosphere

Cons:

~Lots of missing signage creates guessing on most holes
~Dual baskets on some holes don't really add anything except confusion
~A few holes are fairly overgrown and are not well thought out
~Solid course, but lacks that flavor that makes you want to come back

Other Thoughts:

Played on a warm October afternoon in peak Autumn season. This State Park is exceptionally clean and expansive. The course is set in an area that traverses mild elevation near the lake. While the lake doesn't really come into play it serves as a beautiful backdrop visible by a handful of holes.

Nice concrete tees, and those familiar yellow banded baskets the course is nicely carved out and starts off with shorter wooded holes and eventually leads you to longer more open areas. There is a lot of missing signage which prevents the visitor from knowing hole distances and layout. While navigation is fairly straightforward it can be tricky in spots. Overall the course is clean and decently maintained.

You get a good variety at Buck Creek from the elevation changes, varying distances, and different lines each hole provides. It should play accessible to most skill levels.

Many of the holes have dual baskets in the ground spaced 30-40 feet from one another, the baskets are not differentiated by color or design and can cause confusion if the intent is to have various defined layouts to play. In my opinion the dual basket install doesn't provide any benefit to the course.

There are a few holes that need to be trimmed up a good bit for a better defined path of play. Overall most holes are good as they are and the overall layout is positive. All in all it's a solid course and one I enjoyed throwing, but it didn't leave me wanting to come back for more....It's good, just needs that extra little something to make it very good.

A Growing Course. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 3, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Good tees with new signs being installed.
-Wonderful views of reservoir.
-Lots of trash bins and benches.
-Never too crowded.

Cons:

-Fairways on the front 9 are not very clear. All for a challenge, but this course seems to be a lot of luck rather than skill. Good throws are not always rewarded.
-Brush is thick and heavy, discs are easily lost.

Other Thoughts:

This course took a big step forward with new tees and signs, but then took two steps back with the new layout. Baskets were moved to odd locations that are barely cleared and some are in low brush. Challenge is an awesome thing, but at the same time, courses should offer opportunities for good, skilled shots. Many of the revised hole locations require just as much luck as skill.

nice course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 7, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Nice layout. Very challenging. Great scenic views of lake and valleys. The course is easy to follow, it flows nicely. It can be a busy course but generally you won't have trouble getting tee times. Quiet atmosphere, lots of nature. Nice elevation usage.

Cons:

There are a few concrete tee pads, the others are in horrible condition. The pads they poured are small. Trash everywhere even though there are trash cans. Lots of trimming needs to be done. Doesn't seem that anyone wants to do any work on it. It looks like a run down course. Strange looking men stare at you.

Other Thoughts:

Worth the trip to throw. Overall it is a nice course, it just needs someone to put some work into it.

Bring your Hiking Gear and Weed Whacker 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 11, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Excellent use of natural obstacles.

Great workout hiking in and out of the woods.

The potential for this course is definitely there.

Cons:

Tee boxes are gravel-ish and not in good condition.

Course markers are hard to find and not very helpful. Without a map, you could easily miss a couple holes.

Wooded areas are not clear of debris and grassy areas were almost three feet high with very narrow 'fairways' cut through the middle.

Spent more time hunting for discs in the grass then we did actually playing the round.

Other Thoughts:

If the park maintains the course a bit more and keeps the grass trimmed, this course could be very nice. It is by far the most difficult course I have played.

Buck Creek State Park DGC 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 22, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Challenging. Front nine is wooded but very playable.

Cons:

Back nine is a long, hard walk up and down a very large hill. Poor signage on the entire course.

Other Thoughts:

At times there is water in play. One hole on the front nine appeared to be in the process of a redesign and we played what we thought was the right teebox only to find out it was not the right teebox. Back nine should probably have a few more par fours and the 480' hole should probably be a par five for amateurs.
