Buck Creek Review 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 8, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Holes were difficult, yet still playable for new players. The scene around the course is BEAUTIFUL. Holes are also spread out and cover a lot of ground. Excellent course

Cons:

The only con to this course is that there isn\'t a lot of direction to point you to the next hole. Many holes you have to guess on where to go. Wish they would have a maps next to the tee boxes.

Pros:

Baskets are in good shape and in good hole locations.

Tee Pads are concrete which is good, anything else would get destroyed in this major foliage state park.

Tee signs and map markers for every hole. They are pretty clear on the basket, some are a little dinged up but nothing thats going to ruin a round.

Course design is great you bob and weave your way through the state park and you will end right back at your car, especially if you play the unofficial 19th from the restroom to the parking lot.

Lots of benches and good amount of trash cans around.

Love the elevation changes on this course. There are some great holes throughout the entire course that are straight up or downhill.

This course has some super epic holes that are so fun to play. I honestly dont know if I have played a hole with a better view than #12 at Buck Creek. Super downhill beautiful view of Buck Creek its amazing. #14 is a ton of fun as well chucking it straight downhill. My group plays the parking lot of #17 as water making it an island hole and really fun. Overall there are 3-4 holes on this course that I think everyone would think are awesome.

State Park so there is probably camping around.

There is a large restroom by #18 when you come in. I am sure it has running water in it.

Major variety of hole distances. The shorter woodsy ones are at the beginning so make sure you practice a little before heading out so you can really make those holes count.

I think I like this course so much because it really tests all the shots in your bag. You will throw some tomahawks, you will throw some short backhands, if you get behind a tree you might have to throw forehand, your mid range needs to be on point because of the hole locations, if you miss a mid range event slightly you will have some tough putts.

You will for sure see a good mix of tight technical holes like #1, #2, #10 etc. There are some open bomb holes as well like #11, #12, #14, #16 #17. Overall probably more open bombs but some of the ones you think are open bombs will have some trees right in front of you where you want to throw.

Buck Creek is absolutely an overall challenge. It will make you work on almost every hole for par. If you screw up this course will do you no favors. If you go in the rough, have fun saving par. Follow the fairways out here and you will have a good day. Miss your mark and your going to have to answer to the other people in your group of why this course is making you look bad.

Parking is great. You will have a practice basket (#19) by the parking lot to shoot at before your round and #1 starts literally almost connected to the parking lot. #18 will end you a short walk to your car.

This course is absolutely beautiful. Maybe the most scenic in the Dayton area. Some of the holes have great views of Buck Creek and the others will wind you through meadows and beautiful wooded holes. One of the best things this course has to offer is its beauty. It is in a State Park so its almost always like this.

Although I have never played in any I have heard this course has pretty regular events to play in.

Cons:

One of the only bad things about this course is the massive amount of foliage that you have to play though. I hate giving it a con because I am sure they do everything they can but if you go in the rough on this course bring survival supplies because you might never make it back out.

The course was a little crowded when I went out on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.

Attitude of the locals was a little off putting. Group of about 6-7 high school kids playing in front of us that almost acted as if we were none existent when me and my buddy wanted to pass. Nothing terrible just strange.

Other Thoughts:

Buck Creek has been so fun every time I have played it. The scenic beauty and challenge of the course mix together for a good mooded round. Even when you double bogey a hole how can you get mad when you go to #12s tee pad. I give great props to courses that are not redundant and will challenge the long throwers to throw technical and the technical throwers to at least get past some foliage. You will have fun at this course no doubt about that.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 19, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great variety
Moderate-low traffic
Amenities and other tourist spots located on site, (boating, camping, fishing, swimming, horseback riding, etc.)
Beautiful scenery
Fair course for all playing levels

Cons:

The only critique I can make is of the heavy grass and foliage on the back nine. Can make finding your disc very difficult, but the fairways are clearly cut and easy to hit.

Other Thoughts:

This course is awesome! One of the most beautiful Ohio has to offer. Great view of the marina on the back nine, that you shoot alongside in the woods on the first half. Some very short holes with huge turn radiuses, followed by longer holes with crazy elevation changes. This is the course I've thrown my longest drive (over 400 ft) downhill toward the marina. Not sure why I don't come here more often but if you have the chance, play buck creek in the summer and go swimming on the beach nearby after. The water is always crystal clean.

Buck Creek 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 6, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great 18 hole course, with great scenery, good elevation change, though needs signs for the teepads, which were new when I went.

Cons:

Only problem was no signs for where the next tees are,nor were there distance signs, but they were easy to find anyway.

Other Thoughts:

Hueston Woods has some competition, with Buck Creek as the better state park with a DG course. Easy to navigate, great setup, awesome scenery.

FINALLY HASS AWESOME TEES SIGNS 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 13, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Finally got Tee Signs, and they are nice
-Practice Basket
-Concrete Tees
-Discatcher baskets
-Great Course Flow
-Great Layout
-Great Elevation usage
-Great Mix of holes
-Well maintained by locals
-Nice view over the marina and lake
-Plenty of ace runs
-Favors lefty's and righty's
-SOME multiple tee's

Cons:

-Rough can be rough on front 9
-Hole 18's fairway tends to have families in it *SAY FORE*
-Casuals from camp ground can slow your flow

Other Thoughts:

This course is a WOW! It is such a mix of everything you would want. Bombers off the top of a hill and tight fairway is the woods. Such a good mix of finesse and power holes, pretty well split between front 9 and back 9. Play smart on the front 9 otherwise you will be covered in bogey burrs if you take a bad hit off the trees. Bring your power for the back 9 and a video camera Hole14 is a awesome hole for and acerun!

All in All this course is worth the play and worth coming back to repeatly. But it can wear you out because is not just a flat course.

PLAY IT, LOVE IT, OWN IT!!

One of the BEST Dayton area courses. 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 20, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

After playing my first back-to-back games here at Buck Creek, I'd have to say this course rates in my top 5 or even 3 courses in the area. This course has it all. Tunnel shots, open shots, right, left, up down, water, etc. The course is challenging, without punishing you. You'll find yourself using most of the discs in your bag as you navigate through the woods, into the fields, and by the lake.

Cons:

Gravel tee pads and poor signs. From what I've heard, concrete tee pads are being installed this year. If that is true, and they also ad decent tee signs (with at least hole number, distance, and par info) then this course would be a 5 disc rating for me.

EDIT: Concrete tees have been installed! This course is now one of top courses I've played. It really has a little bit of everything.

Other Thoughts:

After playing another very long course in the Dayton area, Buck Creek didn't seem nearly long as I remembered. I played a game here with a friend in under 2 hours. May have been closer to 1 1/2 hours. If you are anywhere within 30+ miles from Buck Creek it's worth the drive. If you come early on a nice summer day, pack a cooler and stay for swimming at the lake.
