a separate course? no so much 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 13, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

-variety of shots required due to the tight woods
-pond in play on hole 4, creek in play on holes 5, 7, 8
-elevations changes but not as drastic as Badlands
-the best part of this course is that it's nothing like Badlands

Cons:

-very poor tees and baskets, no signs
-the woods are thick and unmaintained
-ground can be marshy around holes 4 and 5

Other Thoughts:

These 9 holes are really more like bonus holes for the Badlands course. And thank goodness for them because it is exactly the change of pace needed from the wide open holes on Badlands. The woods are tight and the lines are challenging but sometimes awkward. The pond and creek that come into play make for some cool risk/reward options.

The drawback is that the course equipment is in awful shape. The tees are poor, the baskets are old and beat up, and there are no signs. The trees are also pretty overgrown in places, leaving a shot over the trees your only option in a spot or two.

It would be really great to see this course cleaned up and integrated with Badlands into one 27 hole layout with new signs. I can't imagine anyone plays this course without playing Badlands and if anyone wants to skip these 9 and play just 18 they can feel free. But a 27 hole layout with new signs would address some of the problems with each individual course.

I AM SO SCARED RIGHT NOW!!!! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 10, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

This nine hole secret course takes off from the 'Badlands' course and is a lot different not only from the "Badlands' but the rest of the Denver metro area. This course plays through tight woods and over a body of water with many obstacles, funky basket locations and awkward throws throughout the area.

Wooded courses have always been more fun to me and the open, longer holes have always been super boring to me so I had a much better time here, if tight woods are your thing than this is the best and only option in town for you.

Cons:

Just like the movie you get lost in the woods, scared and scarred for the rest of your life. Navigating this course is very difficult even with following the flags everywhere finding tee pads is atrocious and you must walk almost every hole on the course before you throw it.

This course needs some TLC in the worst way and could be a really fun short, woods course but right now it's about half work and half fun. It is apparent that the local homeless population are camping out in this area of the park and vandalism and litter is everywhere. The basket for hole two was broken and unplayable when I was there , it looks like someone attempted to take the basket and gave up half way through, never the less the chains were all out and hanging down to the ground with yellow caution tape around the lower basket. I wouldn't play this course alone, bring a group, there are some shady characters lurking around in the bushes out there and they might be more harmful than the wicked witch of the east!

Other Thoughts:

Others have spoken about combining the two courses into one making it a 27 hole course. That could make more traffic in the Blair Witch section and possibly drive out some of the scary lurkers in here as well as cut down some of the underbrush and lines in the fairway. Although the lines are fun, short and require you to hit a very, very small window some may argue that there is too much "luck" on the course. I don't agree with that which is why I mention it in the 'other thoughts' category. This course is much more unique and interesting (IMO) than any other course in town and is worth checking out.

Adequate Course Name 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 8, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

-This course was unique and certainly had character. It was aptly named.
-Surprisingly high fun factor for me. There were some tight holes, some with elevation, some risk/reward with the creek.
-The mando on 8 makes you throw a high shot which can be interesting.
-Is usually played in conjunction with another fairly fun course- Badlands. You get to this course after hole 12 from that course and after hole 9 you hop right back into Badlands.
-Friendly locals let me play through a few times and guided me around the course on other times.
-3 practice baskets located at the start of Badlands.

Cons:

-0 signage. Tees were marked with a white PVC tube on top of a metal post. At least 1 or 2 of these were missing.
-Baskets are in poor shape and are not uniform at all. Many are quite old.
-It is apparent that homeless people live here.
-Saw a broken car window in the parking lot, not the best neighborhood.
-Some fairways are a little too tight, a few trimmings and this course would be good to go. Not any major work needs to be done in this regard. A little bit would go a long way.
-Navigation is difficult. There are blind shots and no signage. I followed a friendly local around- Thanks Derek!

Other Thoughts:

-If this site were to combine Badlands and Blair Witch (they should IMO, does anybody ever play just this course???) and there was some work done on the park (new baskets and tees for BW at least, signage) this park could be a very solid 4.0 or even better. There is a lot of potential at Camenisch Park.
-Despite it's shortcomings, this is one of the better courses in the Denver Metro area. This course also is tighter than most courses around here, a refreshing change of pace from the flat and open courses.
-Lock your doors and don't leave anything valuable in sight. Not the best neighborhood.
-You could drop the kids off at water world and play a few rounds here.

The Woods 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 1, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Heavily wooded and lots of tunnel shots (which is a nice change from the front course).
-Lots of fun holes with a lot of risk reward (the dense trees will punish you for bad shots).
-Pleasant, wooded area of the park
-Elevation change on several of the holes
-Water comes into play (there's a drainage ditch on several holes and a pond on one of the holes).
-Decent variety of distances (though there is nothing super long on the course).
-Hole 9 has a hanging basket, which is fun and unique
-Picnic tables and benches on some of the holes

Cons:

-Gravel tee-pads (which can be a little slippery)
-Drainage ditch is full of really nasty smelly water
-No tee-signs and most of the posts with the hole number are faded out and unreadable
-Easy to lose a disc in the heavy brush
-Course gets crowded (especially with a lot of groups of four or more people)
-Not the best part of town (we saw a homeless person in a tent in the trees on hole 6)
-A tad hard to navigate at times (we missed hole 4 at first)
-Baskets are old and rusted
-Other park users can get in the way on a few holes

Other Thoughts:

Great back nine to the front course that provides a lot more challenging and a little more variety than the front 18. This course flows into the other course well and if you are playing the front course make sure you hit these nine holes up.

Great hidden back 9 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 21, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This is a tough technical back nine that really leaves you questioning your ability to shoot through a 3 foot gap of solid trees. The starting hole alone will give you an idea of what you are in for. As you work around the holes there are some areas that open up, but the older tall trees can still poke out and slap a disc down. The final hole on this 9 is a hanging basket which has to be one of the kewlest setups I have seen. Hole 8 is also a really sweet hole requiring you to blast a drive between a tree that split and grew left to right.

Cons:

Once again, same as badlands, the signs could use some serious work.

Other Thoughts:

When your out in this close quarter back 9 keep an eye on where others are. Lots of ppl thumb and tomahawk back in here to get the discs over the trees and back into the bush at the hole. It is easy to end up firing near another group without realizing it. FORE is definitely needed back in here.

The Wicked, Yet Good Witch 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 25, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

The Blair Witch Project DGC must have been designed by some kind of disc golf madman whose two-sided objective was to torment and simultaneously reward the souls of those who play here. It is a convoluted, back-and-forth maze of underbrush and narrow corridors tucked into a small corner plot of Camenisch Park, next to its renowned neighbor, Badlands DGC. If your specialty is throwing bee-line straight shots with finely tuned landings, this is your jungle paradise! If not, you must be a glutton for pain and mental agony to enjoy this round of 9 holes. The atmosphere is wretched on a hot summer day (buggy, overgrown, swampy), yet the sheer challenge of parring the holes can make you want to keep playing. Playing the full round is 50% annoyance and frustration balanced against 50% fun, tight 'n' tricky disc golf. The bottom line: Blair Witch will make you better or make you bail - one of the two.

Aside from the torture of unavoidable bushwhacking, a few of the holes are designed to momentarily deliver you from the bowels of the deep woods. About three of the fairways are open enough to hook a disc around a tree or two and stay on the grass. The perplexing hole #4 deliberately takes you off the main path to set up your drive right at the shoreline of a still pond whose waters you must throw across, only to arrive in a sponge-like wetland just beyond it. Other times you'll be throwing sidearm flings to squeeze through the gauntlet of gangly branches. If you're reading the decent map from the Links/Files section or you've come with a friend, you'll have an easier time finding your way and scouting for baskets. When you do land a sweet shot, it pays off handsomely. Note: From late fall to early spring, it is much easier to play when the trees are bare.

Cons:

Blair Witch has its fair share of cons. The PVC pipes that are intended as signage serve no purpose but to display hippie sticker collections and scribbles. There are deep ditches alongside 6 of the 9 fairways that have gathered copious amounts of garbage, cement chunks and mosquito-breeding water. The natural tees can get a bit rutted out by muddy footprints after a rain. As another reviewer mentioned, it's not too flattering to see and hear the back of Waterworld amusement park.

With the seemingly small effort of installing some legible signage and attaching raised flags to the baskets, this course would gain some serious enjoyment factor. As it stands, it is a course appreciated by cult followers and locals who've mastered its trickery.

Other Thoughts:

Forget restrooms, clear signage, basket flags, or general cleanliness. A couple trash barrels and handmade benches pop up here and there as a bit of a surprise.

The upside of this course is that it will challenge the daylights out of your strategic short game. Know what to expect, go in there prepared and shoot straight, or you may quickly find yourself begging for deliverance from the Blair Witch.

Lumberjacking 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 12, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Is a nice wooded course that you can throw a +4 and or -4 score on any given round. Offers some tight technical shots that are a challenge.

Cons:

Every round there is fewer and fewer vegetation that is being cut down for whatever reason. The picnic tables in the back wood offer a nice hang-out for some of Federal Heights finest citizens.

Other Thoughts:

STOP the chain saws! It's not too late.

The Name Of This Course Gives It Away 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 22, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course is a fun addition in the middle of a round at Badlands DGC. Most shots are very tight which makes for a big challenge. It plays more like a mountain course than it does a park course. You will be forced to make a number of different throws.

Cons:

These holes are so tight that it is not for beginners. It is very easy to find discs, but that also means that it is very easy to loose discs. There is an element of luck that is required on this course. Signs are poor and it is very difficult to know where holes and subsequent tees are for first timers.

Other Thoughts:

This is a fun addition but my thoughts are that no one will play this course without playing the rest of Badlands. At the same time it is a very different course. I lost a disc in the water on #12 on the regular 18 but found one on #9 of this course, so I came out even. I also had a few local youths hanging out around this course which was distracting at times. They were just loud but not in the way of play.

Its named that for a reason 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 25, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course offers some tough blind shots that make you really trust your instinct and throw your disc with confidence. It winds between trees and through some small openings. It is not your average DGC and I think that it is a nice change of pace with a variety of shots.

Cons:

Because this course does have so many trees, in can be very frustrating at times when playing. Some of the holes use baskets and some of them use tube tone as the holes. The tees are dirt, but i think that in the case of this course, it is kinda fitting seeing how it is in the middle of all of the trees.

Other Thoughts:

Walk the course before you play it or play with someone that has played it before. On a lot of the holes, you can not see the basket, so you want to make sure that you throw it in the right direction.

The #1 tee is located next to the #13 tee of the Badlands DGC.
