Boring 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 6, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Good tees and baskets. 18 holes. It's free. Open space for good throw practice without hitting objects.

Cons:

Boring and repetitive holes without much change. Many short holes easy to overthrow. The water is a non issue for those use to narrow paths and oob. Lots of geese.

Other Thoughts:

The course is around water. There is lots of green around the net, and it doesn't take any technique to miss the water and make a basket. It's a beginner course that uses nearby water as a scare tactic. It would be better if the holes were crossing or close to the water.

DG on an old Par 3 ball course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 21, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Large Tee pads are numbered at the rear
- Hole number signs on top of baskets are very helpful
- Easy parking
- Water hazard in play on a few holes
- Figure 8 layout brings you back to first tee
- Good course to bring a beginner.

Cons:

- No Tee signs
- No restrooms
- No water available
- Very little shade could make for hot summer rounds
- Some shots can feel repetitive
- It's not going to excite a more advanced player

Other Thoughts:

This course is the old Centre Hills Par 3 course. It's no longer cared for as a Golf Course, and is now just an overgrown field. Since it was once cared for though, the grass and weeds aren't as bad as I suspected, and disc loss was not an issue.

The first 4-5 holes felt very repetitive. An angled shot towards the water with not much fear of going in. After that there are a few interesting shots (Hole 16 was fun), but it's mostly throwing in open fields.

The Tee pads would almost keep James Conrad happy. Very large with the hole number and course name engraved towards the end...nice touch. Signage would be a welcome addition, but the course is easy enough to read since every basket is visible.

The water could be utilized a bit more, but that would probably detract from it being beginner friendly, and not really add much for advanced players.

Final thoughts...Although not the most challenging course, I had fun playing here. If I lived in the area this would be a fun place to kill an hour, but it's not something to go out of your way to play. Good for beginners, or a Mid/Putter round for more advanced players.

The Minefield 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 1, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

• Decent baskets and awesome looooong concrete tees

• Navigation isn't terribly difficult (use a map the first time out just in case)

• Plays a figure-8, bringing you back to parking

• Nice use of available elevation

• Decent use of the H2O threat (the main hazard)

• IMO good for beginners and for locals looking for a nice, quick, casual round

Cons:

• Can get monotonous, especially the front 9

• Not many clearly defined fairways (just aim and toss)

• No benches/trash cans/elevated tee signs/restrooms

• Not a lot of variety in hole distances/shots needed (mainly RHBH, not many bombers)

• Goose poop & prairie dog holes will keep you watching your feet

Other Thoughts:

Centre Hills Park is great if you're a beginner or a local looking for a nice, quick, casual round. The main hazard here is the creek/ponds that run thru the center of the course that, when combined with the short distances on most holes, will challenge your control. It's easier than it seems to overshoot the basket from some of the tees and end up in the drink. Navigation shouldn't be an issue after your first time there. Having said that, the signage is lacking. Other than the map at the start of the course there are just hole numbers engraved into the tees, no elevated markers by the tees which can help spotting them. That said, there are PLENTY of signs warning DG'ers and other park users alike of potential flying discs/other patrons.

I call it the Minefield b/c you're constantly needing to watch your step. If it isn't goose poop it's prairie dog holes. Prairie dogs can also be a vector for plague so you know, there's that. Many of the holes are one-dimensional w/ no obstacles other than that main water hazard though the last few holes start to make up for it, #16 in particular can be a nail biter for RHBH, with the basket situated on a small hill right next to the water. Plenty of ace runs here. IMO the course could benefit from the aforementioned elevated tee signs, and maybe some bag holders/brooms as some of the tees can get covered in dirt. All that said, while I wouldn't call it a destination course, I had a good time here and if I lived nearby I would find it totally adequate for a quick, fun round.

Fun for some, boring for others 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 9, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-All grass so it's easy to find your disc.

-Water that makes some holes harder

-Perfect for working on mid-range game or approach.

-Plenty of parking

-Some holes have double tee pads.

-Concrete teepads

Cons:

-No obstructions in the way of shots.

-Short

-Goose poop

-Condensed

Other Thoughts:

-This course is perfect for mid ranges and putters. It can really improve your short game if that's where you could use help.

-Great for learning a new disc

-Great for beginners

-I remember when this was all par 3 golf course. I'm surprised they didn't use the driving range for any of the holes.

-I aced # 2!

Centre Hills is Expo Park Jr. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 18, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Not a lot of pros. Has concrete tee pads, and uses the water a lot to create added challenge. Multiple tee pads on 2 holes. Hole #16 is a clear signature hole. Even though it's short can be a tough birdie.

Fairly easy to navigate though a few tee pads can be hard to locate if you've never played the course.

Each hole has multiple pin locations, though they are rarely moved.

Cons:

Pretty mundane repetitive holes. Almost no obstacles to provide challenge, just gotta keep it out of the water.

No tee signs or distances marked.

Beavers are tearing apart the trees on hole #17. What once was a challenging tunnel shot right off the tee pad into an opening with trees on the left, is becoming another mundane shot with more water to avoid and potentially lose a disc.

Other Thoughts:

This course is just Expo Park Jr. Just another city course without many obstacles where the only real challenge is avoiding the water.

The Definition of Lightly Wooded 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 26, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Brand new baskets that are in good shape and catch well. Each basket is numbered on top, which makes it easy to know which basket you are throwing at.
-Course is fairly easy to navigate. There is one spot on the course that can cause problems (between hole 5 and 6 and 12 and 13, see below) but other than that one area, it is easy to see the next tee-pad from the last hole.
-Nice concrete tee-pads. All of the concrete tee-pads are quite long, especially for the distance of the holes. You will have more than enough room for any run-up or pre-throw things you do.
-Small elevation. There are a few ups and downs on the course, but nothing extreme.
-Quite a bit of water comes into play on this course. While it is nothing extreme, a lot of holes play along several ponds. A bad shot definitely has a chance of going into the water. The water is not extremely punishing but as I said above it can definitely affect a bad throw.
-Quite a bit of ace runs. The water behind some of the ace runs make them a little more interesting as if you over throw the basket going for an ace on several holes, you could easily end up in the pond, which add some nice risk/reward to the usual ace runs.
-Good place for mid-range and putter practice.
-Grass was short in most areas and unless you throw a disc in the pond, you probably won't lose a disc on this course.

Cons:

-No tee-signs currently. While it is easy to know which basket to throw to, it would still be nice to have tee-signs to know distance, and any hole layout changes.
-The course gets quite a bit repetitive. There are very few trees on this course. Other than holes 9 and 17 there are basically no trees that come into play. Since most of the baskets are straight ahead of the tee-pad, all of the holes mostly play as straight ahead shots and after a few holes it starts getting repetitive.
-The majority of holes on this course are quite short. I believe the longest is about 350 feet and the majority of holes were under 300 feet, while most of them seemed to be under 250 feet.
-The only real obstacle on this course is truly the water. I was also said to see no direct carry over any of the water. The ponds were short enough lengthwise that I feel like a couple direct carries over the water would be nice and add to the course a bit. As it stands the water really only comes into play on the side of the holes, and good shots will avoid the water.
-Navigation between hole 5 and 6 is confusing the first time. After throwing five you will see a tee-pad to your right on the same side of the pond that looks like your next tee-pad, but it is really the tee-pad for hole 11. The tee-pad for six is across the bridge on the other side of the ponds.
-To get to hole 13 from hole 12, you have to walk straight down the fairway for hole 5 leading to a safety hazard. There are a few other holes, where the next tee-pad is very close to the fairway of the last hole.
-The water in the ponds looked a little nasty, if you throw a disc in it, it might not be fun to retrieve.
-None of the holes were super memorable or difficult, for more experienced players there will be a lot of birdies here.

Other Thoughts:

Overall, this course has a few fun holes, but nothing spectacular or memorable. It feels a lot like a shorter version of the nearby Expo Disc Golf Course. Both courses are lightly wooded courses that play around several ponds, and feel quite similar, except Expo plays a little longer. While there are a lot of shorter holes, I wouldn't necessarily call this a good beginner course as the water along side many of the fairways could be intimidating to beginning players. Overall, this is an ok course, but not worth going out of your way for.
