Pros:

well its now 18 holes and looking at other sites has been since 2018 or so. nice signage and well taken care of. easy to find and not too many places to loose anything. longer than the other reviews indicate.

Cons:

no major complaints. more benches and trashcans are always nice, but all and all a nice course

Other Thoughts:

not sure how much traffic this course gets or if everyone else is now using the other apps, but this site needs updated as to all the new renovations. great course better than the other reviews here indicate

Hidden Gem is Southern Iowa

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 9, 2022 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Concrete Tees
-Very cool metal signage
-Excellent baskets (including 2 hanging baskets)
-Good mix of long/short
-Park upkeep is very good
-Good interest for moderate players, but playable for the novice
-Re-design to 18 holes in 2021 adds some long holes on the back 9

Cons:

-No benches / trashcans
-Facilities limited
-Couple of strange mandos on #4 and #6, opposite of the line shown on the tee sign

Other Thoughts:

Chariton DGC winds its way through Northwest Park on the NW side of Chariton, IA. The course was re-worked to add 9 holes in 2021. I found a pleasant course making good use of the area. The grounds upkeep was impressive. The signage, metal with hole, distance, par and a rough map cut in the metal, was really neat, all re-done with the expansion to 18. The baskets looked new and stood out with the bold blue bands. There are just enough trees to make you work for some decent lines and a good straight drive is very helpful. #1 starts as an "island hole" with everything before the small stream as OB with a small "drop zone" round of concrete to take your "3" from. Streams come into play on #3, #5 and #6. A long or left near the basket of #9 is the only other water hazard. There is water left on #7, but the tree line keeps that out of play. Holes #4 and #6 have mandos that are opposite of the tee signs, so be aware. Tee signs show the line right of the trees in question, but the mando signs show left. The course is mostly open, especially after #6. Elevation does play a role here and with no 9 hole wrap around, bring some drinks with you. A couple of cool hanging baskets are waiting for you on #9 and #10. Watch on #17 as the dip to the right goes down quite a bit. An enjoyable round, the course is nice, the signs and hanging baskets are cool. Will definitely play again.
