Wide Open Spaces 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 7, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Concrete teepads, mostly maintained fairways, wide open spaces, and just a little bit of everything to play with. Trees on most holes, but nothing that is closed up. Some righty holes, some lefty. Lots of straight shots. A few over mild water. A few really long holes and a couple short ones. There are benches set up frequently throughout the course which is nice since it is pretty long. And you will probably only lose a disc in high grass if you don't look long enough. Good course over all to play a round.

Cons:

A couple spots are perpetually muddy. A few actual bridges ought to be installed over the creek instead of logs. The tee signs are not helpful at all, take a map. There are supposedly a second set of tees, but if you can find them then you are already a daily player of the course because they are just stakes in the ground. The wind is terribly unpredictable out there too. Bathrooms available sometimes, other times not.

Other Thoughts:

If you want someplace to go air it out this is the place. If you want someplace to test out the flight path of your disc... you have about a 75% chance of wind.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 28, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Nice concrete tees
- Excellent hand painted signs showing layout, par, and distances. (wish they drew the short/mid tees on them)
- Natural course flow with 2 9 hole loops.
- Bathrooms & pavilion on site
- The course is beautifully maintained very clean.
- There is very little elevation on site, but what is here is well used including a few man made mounds, elevated pins, and an elevated tee.
- A few creative obstacles such as a small windmill and a corn crib guarding a basket add character.
- 2 very long holes (911' & 716' par 4s) with a few short ones (207' & 223') to give both the long & short armed players some fun. Most other holes are ~350-400' par 3s.
-Very little lost disc opportunity. Don't be afraid of the 7 holes marked as water - they are almost all just a ditch that is pretty easy to find your disc in. Not much high grass. The brush that is there around the outside is good at knocking discs back in play and if not is fairly open once inside. The only hazard that is a pain are the abundant disc eating pine trees - but those can be solved with a hockey puck.

Cons:

- There is not a lot of shot variety and very few forced lines. Most play almost straight ahead down the fairway where any shot will do as long as your placement is good. This became crystal clear to me when I was showing this course to someone who had never played and I found myself repeatedly saying something along the lines of "there is the pin (straight ahead) keep it in the fairway and make sure aren't in jail behind that pine tree" when explaining the holes.
- It is wide open with very little shade. Bring lots of water and don't forget the sunscreen.
- 3 sets of tees are useless when you can't find the mid & short tees. I've been through quite a few times and I've yet to locate them all. I pretty much consider this course to just have long tees.

Other Thoughts:

Although the course is very open they have done a good job with the trees that they have to create a variety of chokepoints. Most holes have a gap (although usually generous) that you must hit and if you miss it you find yourself in jail behind a very large pine tree or 3.

Overall I really like this course and it always provides a good test to my game. I just wish there was a bit more variety in play here to bring this to the next level. I was very close to giving it a 4.

Choke Points 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 23, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Long-n-wide concrete teepads. Two nine-hole loops. Excellent online map.

Pretty and well manicured. Lots of nice, little touches (e.g. a mini-windmill). Area dedicated to disc golf. Set upon a fairly flat piece of land, with the occasional random slope. Bordered on three sides by rows of trees. A tiny stream runs across a section of the course.

Cons:

Single basket location.

While the signs at the long tee locations indicate that there are two other (middle=red, short=blue) tee location per hole, it wasn't until the last couple of holes that these small, in-ground markers made themselves easily visible.

Other Thoughts:

The main theme of the course is its choke points. While the majority of the fairways are quite broad, there typically will be trees and/or bushes forming choke points 100'~200' from the tee. Additionally, most every green will also be guarded by trees/bushes squeezing the approach as well. While only a few of these choke points would be considered tight, the steady diet of them will need to be overcome to score well.

From the long tees, there are a few long (four > 400') and short (two < 225') holes, but most fall into the ~300~400' range. Straight off the tee will serve you well in most cases, except for numbers 1, 10, and 12 (rights) and number 6 (left).

For the most part, the fairways are wide enough, and separated by scattered trees, that cross-fairway encroachment should be fairly minimal. The most dangerous spot is a right-to-left tee shot from tee-16 passing over tee-7.

Favourite hole #6: Needing an early left-turner from the tee, the mid-fairway and green-area contains small pockets of trees/bushes, making for a very challenging approach.

The corn crib, or whatever it is near basket-17, makes a distinctive thumping-sound if you happen to hit with your approach - or airmail a 35' putt past the basket, as I did.

Very nice course, worth a play if in the area.

A fun relaxed round awaits 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 29, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

18 nice concrete tee pads. Decent signs at the tees with distances and general hole layout. Signs appear hand painted which is a nice look.

Park is pristine and very well maintained. It seems like a lot of love and work has gone into this course. Grass is mowed, and rough is trimmed to leave baskets and fairways looking great.

No other park activities to hinder your efforts. It's just you and the course. This is a pretty piece of land with some creeks and small ponds mixed in with varying trees and grasses. A round here does feel like a pleasant walk in a country farm.

Even though the entire course has the same feel to it, there is a big variety of hole lengths to keep things a little mixed up. You'll be throwing from 220' all the way up to about 900'. That variety helps make up for some of this course's limitations.

Cons:

Almost every hole has the same look and feel. Course is mostly open with mowed grass fairways, large trees, and well-tended island of trees or bushes. There is not a huge variety of looks and shots. Many of the holes are dead straight shots that require you to miss a big tree or two. Not really any line shaping needed.

No elevation. A basket or two on a very small hill, and a tee or two up a few feet, but it really is flat.

Other Thoughts:

Overall this is a very good course. Being a noodle arm from NC, I prefer tightly wooded courses that force you to make certain shots. If you like a more open course then you would probably rate this course a little higher than me.

This would be a great course to bring a beginner as the fairways are generous, and you can save an errant shot in most locations. Also a great place to,work on rollers. Many long fairways with nice short grass.

This course is flat but used a few small hills and some piles of woods chips to create some variety in the terrain. All that helps, but this would be a great place for an elevated basket or two. I wouldn't want to see the overall look and feel of the course change dramatically, but one or two creative tweaks would liven up a round.

For those of you that do enjoy some technical lines #12 is a nice little 223' shot that has a low ceiling andmfairlymtight window off the pad. Then a RHBH played must either make a decent flick or turnover shot to get to the basket which is wedged on the edge of the woods in some trees. And if you go too far right you end up in some thick woods. Cool little hole mixed in to the open course.

This is definitely a course worth playing when you are in the area, and doubly so if you enjoy a more wide open, less technical round.

A little open 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 20, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course plays through a sprawling grassy park with scattered trees. Many of the trees are dense evergreens that make excellent obstacles and that can really affect your next shot if you end up in or behind one. There are some small stream beds and marshy areas in play that add a little risk reward to some shots. The fairways are nicely mowed, and the park was in nice shape with good baskets and decent concrete tees. The signs have hole layout and distance, and the layout is pretty easy to follow.

The course plays fairly open, so there aren't a ton of shots where you really have to hit a specific line. That said, there is still some variety here, with everything from ace runs to a 900 footer. Many of the longer holes call for some attention to shot placement to avoid the pines and piles of wood chips placed as fairway obstacles.

Cons:

The openness makes the course feel a bit repetitive at times. The designer(s) did a nice job with the available land, and the manmade obstacles like wood chip piles and the silo are fun additions. The tee signs aren't always accurate as to hole shape and distance. The long grass along some fairways is my least favorite type of obstacle, it adds frustration rather than challenge. The shorter sets of tees are natural and only marked with small stakes. Most don't really change the hole much, they just shorten the hole. There are a few holes that are very close to one another, errant shots can easily make it onto other fairways.

Other Thoughts:

Beginners will find some of the holes pretty long, though inaccurate shots aren't terribly punished on most holes here. More experienced players will find some challenges, but it's pretty open and doesn't really make you execute different kinds of shots.

good, tough course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 9, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Good amount of variety, long holes. Well maintained. Holes were fun. Looks like a lot of effort is put into the course.

Cons:

The shorter tees are almost impossible to find. A few teepads face slightly in the wrong direction toward other backets, so I threw a few in the wrong direction. There's a lot of long grass (rough?) that I lost my discs in way too many times. Also, <200' hole is par 3, >900' hole is par 4?

Other Thoughts:

I didn't see any garbage cans and towards the back of the park there was a lot of trash on the ground.

Strong winds 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 4, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice Layout, Concrete pads, Maps at each hole, Small water hazards, terrible throws weren't too hard to find

Cons:

Some holes were very long and par was not very forgiving (at least compared to Como Lake Park that I player the previous day), The strong winds made it nearly impossible to judge the flight of your disc and get good distance. Concrete pads only on furthest tee. Even with maps it was sometimes unclear where you were trying to go.

Other Thoughts:

Someone better than I would proly deal with the wind a lot better. My high thrown drives would just get blown south and almost always land in a pine tree. Pars proly would've been fine If I didn't play from yellow (the farthest tee) however it was the only tee with the nice concrete pads. I will definitely play again when it is less windy.

Cons:

A few spots where if your disc gos, its not coming back, a couple of really nasty marshes on the front 9 you absolutely want to avoid. the un-mowed "rough" areas between the holes can be surprisingly difficult to find discs in, bring your brightest discs,

Nice brand new little pavilion near the lot to hang out or grill up some lunch.

This is a true disc golf course. Holes and tees are marked very well.. A good place to try your skill and a good run through with all your discs.

Cons:

Fairways are tight in places so make your shot count. Brush is ok but keep an eye on your shot.. Or if you have a friend or group and you don't trust your judgment have them walk ahead to watch it.. Bring bug spray also.. Bugs are terrible in certine spots

Other Thoughts:

Lost my TD4 driver on the course somewhere and friend lost 3 discs. This is a make your shot count course. A really fun course and worth going back to. Plenty of strait shots and some bend shots.. So have your "A game" on.. Beautiful area

Throwin' on the Farm 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 2, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great course layout with most of the holes flowing very nicely. There are some great technical holes from the cement tees; some very long bombs from the same tees as well. The mounds and fences add another dimension in obstacles and make you think about where your throw will land. Course is kept nice; hardly saw any trash or vandalism.

Cons:

The shorter tees are hard to find at times; they're not marked on the maps.

Other Thoughts:

I was expecting a lot out of Baker and it didn't disappoint. I'm going to suggest we add mounds like Baker at my local course instead of just planting more trees. As a Rec player, the cement tees weren't that big of a challenge until hole 11. The most important thing was that I had fun and my father-in-law had a blast for his first time as well.

killer long course 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 17, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

beautiful plot of land dedicated only to disc golf (not a public park)
lots of long, challenging holes
some variety of shots but mainly open
new concrete teepads (installed summer '09)
easy to navigate
interesting man-made designs and obstacles (inverted woodchip bunkers, elevated baskets, silo, windmill)
very well manicured and maintained
lots of parking
never crowded
a few minor water hazards
i believe the new building they just put up in the parking lot has bathrooms, not sure

Cons:

needs new tee signs, old ones are great (carved wood) but some are missing and some are outdated
short tees are unmarked or very difficult to find (just colored squares even with or under grass)
no alternate pin locations
no trash cans (carry out your trash!!!)
few technical holes, not much risk/reward

Other Thoughts:

Another great Rochester course! This one is long and brutal but a lot of fun. One of the great things about this course is that the holes are mostly open but there are lots of tree lines that shape the fairways and give lots of options for flight lines. A few great signature holes too: 6 with a drive over a creek with a few tree obstacles to a dogleg left, then straight another 300' to a protected, elevated green; 11 is a 911' straight and narrow, open fairway; 18 is another big one, 716' with left and right turns in the open, tree-lined fairway to an elevated green. Obviously, this is a course for the big arms. Bring your cannons and get ready to launch some ICBMs on this one!

While there are lots of variously shaped fairways, there are almost no holes that force you to make certain kinds of shots except 10, a sharp right dogleg.

Water hazards on 2,4,5,6 (creeks) and 7 (very small but deadly pond behind basket); elevated tees on 1,8,12, (sort of on 13,15; small downhill elevation change); elevated baskets on 6,8,18; protected baskets on 2,6,12,16,17. Most of the holes on the edge of the land have tree lines with very thick shule, you don't want to hyzer into them.

All in all, a great course. Lots of fun to play and the long holes are definitely a challenge to those of us mortals. A little out of the way but a necessary stop for any locals and a good choice for out-of-towners too.

So close to amazing.. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 19, 2009 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course starts off pretty standard but with some nice views and pretty features but soon changes in to man-made elevation changes (tee/ hole on a 6' mound) and plays pretty well. There are some short holes and a few insanely long ones. Good variety. You can tell that somebody has loved this course over the years, it's not a public park, it's a disc golf course, end of story. But it has qualities to it that are simply there to be pretty, an old wheel and a small grain silo come to mind. Also a few objects around make it really pretty some times like a short fence right in front of hole 12. This course has a LOT of things going right for it.

Cons:

This course needs some new Tee signs. It also needs a map at the front board and maybe some arrows to point the way from time to time. I also hear this course can get swampy and I saw the potential for it.

Most of this can be fixed or avoided, this is really a nice course.

Other Thoughts:

I haven't looked it up, but I'm pretty sure they made the front 9 one time and tacked the back 9 on much later, hole 10 is designed just to get you as far away from the front 9 as possible so you can play 11-18 back towards the parking lot. It makes the park a little less newbie friendly, but that's not exactly a problem.

I am going to try playing through the park starting at hole 9 and ending at hole 8, I think this will be a bit less fatiguing for my newbie arm, as the super long hole won't be towards the back of my game.

If you're nearby...you should play this course, and you should love this course, and you should want to take care of this course. With just a bit of support from all of us this course will be 4.5 star quality without much effort. As always *please* keep your parks clean.

P.S. I will be playing this park more in the future, but I want to see the other Rochester parks first.

Pros:

Unique. Lots of interesting obstacles created out of a basically flat and treeless terrain. Trees are growing in many places and so it keeps getting better. This place is just a disc golf course and not a park also. Although it can be long and challenging enough for pros it's a fun place to bring beginners to see what this sport can be like.

Cons:

A little too open and long on the back 9. Some of the old signs are broken or missing. Although there are alternate tees, they can be hard to find since they're flush with the ground.

Other Thoughts:

The Town of Chili and committed to fixing this place up so hopefully it will return to it's greater glory.

Very scenic use of a former farm. Even a small silo next to one of the baskets. Room to throw, but few baskets out in the open.

Cons:

Thick woods & brush along the fairways. Too likely to lose a disc if you go astray.

Other Thoughts:

The only baskets with no obstructions or technical fairways are 700 to 900 feet long. The front nine plays pretty qucikly. The back nine is long. When we are short of time, we play the front nine two or three times.
