This is a pretty solid course. New DGA baskets were just installed. The park is well taken care of and the course flows fairly well. The current tee signs do the job, but an upgraded version would look nice. Some direction "next tee" signs would be helpful too, but navigation was never too bad. Fun lines and a good mix of shapes and distance.

This is a very nice course. I had concerns it was going to be a rough round when I saw how wet the bioswale area near hole 1 was, but most of the course stays relatively dry. Some areas have woodchips to help with this. The course didn't blow me away, and sure, Canyons and others fairly nearby are better, but this is a respectable course in its own right, and given when it was installed (1982), it's that much more impressive.

I came early in the morning and there were deer everywhere, birds singing, and lots of wildlife. For being this close to the Chicago area, the escape from infrastructure was very nice. The course is well maintained overall and mowed. Some aspects of it are showing their age, such as the very faded course sign at the beginning, but for the most part the course was in good shape. The heavy grooves on the tees were really nice on a dewey morning.

The baskets are pretty basic and aren't the best catchers, but they generally were in good shape otherwise. There are lots of amenities here and it felt like a full service, well thought out course with few outside interferences like in some parks. I have to agree some of the area course ratings are inflated, and for me this course wasn't quite a 4, but it is still a very nice course. The tee signs were fantastic, and dual tees are also nice. The long tees mostly just add a bit of length if you want to play longer, and not much more than that, but the tees are also nice and large which is always appreciated.

I think one of the bigger downsides here is that there isn't much elevation change. What is here was incorporated very nicely, and some of the approach shots to the basket have some dips and hills that add a lot of challenge. It's still a fun and challenging course, and I'd probably recommend it for intermediate and up. The biggest reason I might pass on this course for beginners is the rough. It is quite bad in some areas (in the sense you "dont want to go in there if you don't have to", but still is what you'd expect from a disc golf course). Not only is it a bit thick, but it's thorny in places. I usually play alone and not having a spotter here can mean scraping up your legs pretty bad finding that disc. Definitely don't get annoyed with your shot and throw 4-5 drives like I have a habit of doing.

It seems like there are some varying views on this course, and I get some of the criticism. It didn't feel very repetitive to me, but there are courses around that have it beat, namely the Lockport/Joliet titans. Still, I felt like this course was worth the trip. The Canyons is worth a drive from another state, this course is not - but if you're within an hour, I'd still come play. I enjoyed myself and I think most people will too as long as they take care not to bury discs in the rough. The water hazards add challenge and interest for me, but might be a turnoff for some people I guess. I recommend giving this one a try.

Community Park DGC was installed in 1982. You'd never know it if you just played Shorewood which was installed in 1981, just a year earlier. This seems like as modern of a course as anything else I've seen. It's not the longest course by any means, but it's no pitch and putt either.

The tee pads here are nice and large concrete. All pads were mounted level and many of the holes had long pads. Most of these were just further back from the shorts but it's always nice to have options. There were also quite a few trash cans and nice long benches throughout the course which is always a nice touch.

The baskets are Mach II's. These aren't the best targets out there by any means, but if you putt a little softer you'll be alright. These don't handle laser beam putts well at all. One pin position per hole.

The design of this course is top notch in my opinion. There wasn't a single point during my round where it felt dull or repetitive. The ability to shape and place shots accuratley is paramount here. Being able to throw BH and FH will help you even more. The lines are all fair, whether you can execute the shot or not is a different story.

The added amenities are a great touch. I loved the built up concrete block greens. They prevent you from sliding a shot right up to the pin on one hole and offers a bit of a drop off behind another if you air ball with the pin placed right on the edge. There's a basket on a mound as well, which makes you make a decision to run it or not on an otherwise pretty straightforward hole. There's numerous bridges over the creek or other perennially wet and muddy areas.

The tee signs are really well done. They have a pretty descriptive hole layout showing both tee locations. They also have hole #, distances from either tee, pars and a next tee arrow. They're just really sharp, clean looking signs. I really liked these.

The flow of the course is generally very easy to follow. The next tee arrows helped but there weren't any long walks in between holes and most of the paths between holes were freshly wood chipped making them easy to spot.

The rough is ROUGH. Ending up off the fairway is not what you want to do here. There's a very, very real chance of lost discs if you do. Lots of thorns and poison ivy right off the fairway. And it can get thick, really, really thick. Not only that but the creek and a pond can come into play as well as numerous swampy areas if it had rained a lot recently.

The baskets are really pretty bad here. Back in the day when I didn't know any better Mach's were fine. But with all the great new models coming out these things just seem worse and worse every time you see them.

Not the longest course by any means. Most holes are under 300'. Not a con per se, but if you like just airing it out hole after hole, shot after shot, this won't be the place for you.

Probably not the course you'd want to play in the spring or after heavy rains. It's a pretty swampy/marshy area that appears to hold water for lond periods of time.

This course was the biggest surprise out of all the courses I played around this area. It's not that I didn't think it'd be a good course or anything. I was just surprised HOW good of a course it is. I'm glad it was the last one I got to play down this way, it was a good cap on my Joliet bagging campaign.

The Canyons and Highland are both a step above Community Park. But this one is a solid third place in the area in my opinion. I'll be playing this one again the next time I'm down here without a doubt. Don't overlook this course when checking out courses in this area. Very solid course.

I would be very happy if this were my home course. (but, I traveled 75 minutes to get there and from the reviews expected a little more variety, etc. )

Fun and interesting course plays through a section of a quiet community park that's relatively isolated from other park activities. Starts and ends in a large in a clearing off of the woods, giving you a chance to warm up before venturing into the woods for some shot shaping.

• Disc Play: Well balanced variety with a nice selection of semi-open and moderately to fairly well wooded holes of various shapes and lengths; annies, hyzers, straight, some suitable for spike hyzers.
+ Mosty flat, but makes the most of the available topography with a few holes presenting mild but significant elevation changes from tee to pin. Several baskets near drop-offs plus an elevated basket create some risk/reward opportunities.
+ Distances are a bit on the short side (even from the longs tees), with most fairways rewarding placement more than distance. While there aren't any monster length "grip'n' rip" holes, there are a few where players who throw 350-400 ft with accuracy can set up birdie opportunities that noodle arms will never get to see.
+ The rough gets thick in spots, punishing fairly for leaving the fairway, but even the more challenging fairways are quite executable.

• Aesthetics: Pleasant park setting is very clean and easy on the eyes. Landscaping stones prevent soil erosion around many of the roll-away greens give the course a cleaner, more cared for look. Course is well maintained and it shows.

• Equipment: Spacious, raked concrete tees are grippy and have an arrow in front of them indicating the direction of play. Tee signs show hole layout, #, and distance and relative positions for both tees (where applicable), but only present at the short tee (IIRC). Baskets are old DGA's, but still in good shape and catch well.

• Navigation: Between painted spokes on the baskets (white points to shorts, blue points to long), well -worn paths, and tee signs, you won't find too many courses that are easier to get around. You can print the map, but we didn't need it.

• Memorable holes: Starts with a fun open shot over a marsh where you have to avoid a menacing tree if you hope to card a deuce. Love the pin treatment on #2.

Way more right than there is wrong:
• Poison Ivy (specifically in the rough on the left side of #7).
• Plenty of low lying spots that retain water - I wouldn't recommend playing here the day after it rains.
• Longs should provide more challenge for better players.

Channy's a really fun course that's well cared for. Nothing here will knock your socks off, but if you appreciate a course that's well conceived, executed and maintained, you'll really enjoy playing here.

Particularly well suited to Novice, Rec, and Intermediate players, I don't think there's quite enough to challenge Advanced players. Not to say better players won't have fun here, but IMHO, that makes it better for casual rounds than tournament play.

I particularly like what they did with the pins on holes 2, 4, and 14. Joliet seems to have some of the best courses in Chicagoland, and this is definitely worth a visit if you're in the vicinity.

Aesthetic-- multi use park set in the "burbs" of chicago (kind of a burb of joliet actually), the disc golf areas are almost disc golf exclusive. plays along some back yard fences in the back but never really in play.

Tees- oh. my. god. the tees here are awesome. dual tees with "siped" surfaces to ensure good grip even when wet. short tees have signage, long tees do not (unless same as short tees)

Baskets- old but in good repair. no issues identified when I was there.

Upkeep- Immaculate. the landscaping through this course is impressive to say the least. many retaining walls, "garden-like" areas, and thoroughly maintained pathways through the low areas.

variety/risk v reward- there is a little of everything here. left, right, short, long, a great variety. pin placement here is great in some places and meh in others. some of the man made elevated tees are placed with significant rollaway potential.

Signage-- beautiful signs here. not sure if all of the distances are accurate however. some holes feel significanly shorter than listed.

Routing and Nav-- so so easy. follow the painted tines and the immaculte pathways and you surely won't get lost!!

Wet- I get that this is an uncontrollable but the course was super wet when I was there and a lot of the lower areas were flooded (minimally).

Challenge- I will agree with the previous reviewer there are a lot of holes here that you feel like should be "twoable" there aren't any holes you look at and just say "holy shit, what am I going to do here?"

This course is very well maintained. It has 2 sets of tee pads and good signage. There is decent distance variation and a good mix of different lines required to score well such as straight shots, hyzers, anhyzers, large turning shots, big hyzers, and long turnovers. There are a few cool and unique greens such as 2,11, and 12. This is a fun course and good for beginners and up and coming amateurs.

This course is on the shorter side. The baskets are not the best although that is not a big deal for me. The fairways are pretty generous and there is not many tight gaps to hit. This course is fairly flat and can flood with a lot of rainfall. On many of the holes there is a "cheater" big hyzer line that I would prefer not be accessible.

Frank Grimes has put a lot of time into this course and it shows. If you see him while your there please show your appreciation for all his hard work.

I have a preference for pretty parks that are well taken care of. Channahon's Community Park gets high marks for that. It's just a great public park. The disc golf course specifically is very well taken care of. There are two concrete tees on most holes, with a nice gravel arrow pointing toward the hole in front of the tee. Each hole has a tee sign with a hole map and distances. The baskets are newer and catch well. There is a lot of very pretty landscaping scattered throughout the course that gives the property a nice, peaceful feeling. There isn't a ton of elevation or water to work with, but what is there is used well. A few man-made amenities have been included to help add some challenge to some placements (such as the raised "J-Town" basket on #4 or the drop-off placement on #12.) A spoke on the baskets are painted red to help point you to the next tee, and the course just generally flows well. There is a nice combination of wooded fairways that force you to take a certain route and more open fairways with mature trees scattered through them where you can pick your route and try to hit it. The wooded fairways are fairly wide, but once you stray off them the rough is very thick and tough to find a shot out of. The long tees add some decent distances to the shots, although it's not a big bomber course. The combination of longs and shorts gives the course some very good variety. The whole package comes together in a very enjoyable course.

The park is essentially flat, and the wooded holes have pretty wide, well-defined fairways. Lacking a lot of elevation, tight tunnel shots and/or long bomber shots, Channy is probably not all that challenging to the upper tier players. I certainly had my hands full with it, though.

The course can hold water and tends to get buggy, so you have to take precautions against that during those seasons. You also spend a lot of time out in the open, so sunscreen is a must.

In the mid 90's I took a road trip to play what was at the time the best courses in the Chicagoland area-West Park and Channahon. West Park is essentially how I remember it from 14 years ago. Channahon has been tweaked and updated over that same time frame so that it seems like a different course. A lot of care and attention goes into this course, and it shows. It might not be the most challenging course anymore, but it's a course that gets the most out of what the land has to offer. It is certainly still amongst the best courses in Illinois and a course you don't want to miss if you are in the area.

- Located in a spacious park, Community's course is well-separated from other park activities. Beautifully manicured, well-defined fairways work their way through open areas dotted with trees as well as wooded sections. In the wooded sections, fair but sometimes brutal punishment in the form of tight scrub awaits those who miss their lines. Short tees are accessible to newer/less-skilled players, while the longs provide a challenge for seasoned discers.
- Decent use of the available elevation (which unfortunately isn't much). #4 has an artificially raised basket that can become a bit tricky on windy days unless you're willing to lay up.
- Water comes into play quite nicely on the second hole. The long tee on #2 shoots over a small water carry, and then works back to the right where the basket is located past another small bit of water. A castle turret-like wooden barrier sits on the far side of the water, waiting to knock down any low approaches.
- Pro and am tees. Long, wide, brushed concrete tees are among the grippiest I've played on. Each tee has crushed gravel in the shape of an arrow in front, which is a nice touch. Good signage, which unfortunately is located only on the am tees. Each basket has a spoke painted red that points in the direction of the next tee.

- Unfortunately, the long tees don't have signage, which is a bit of a hassle the first time through.
- A few holes incorporate tall prairie-like grassy areas which might make finding your disc a bit of a pain during the summer months (provided you land there).

- Channahon has a good balance of holes, especially from the long tees. Nothing gets too out-of-hand difficult, but should provide a decent enough challenge for the average player.
- It's obvious a lot of love gets put into this course, and it shows through in the above-average upkeep.

- A good mix of challenging holes and birdie holes. It will force you to open up the bag a bit.
- Course very well laid out and you get to see the beauty of the park while playing golf. It's also easy to follow if you're playing it for the first time.
- Concrete tees and good signage.
- Long tees provide a good challenge for those looking for it.

-Flooding. With a lot of low lying areas, there will be a fair amount of standing water on this course that will affect the way you walk it. I don't mind the water being in the way of play, but I don't want to walk through it unless I throw a disc into it. Bring shoes you don't mind getting dirty.

It's a nice course and being from the Champaign, IL area, I don't mind making the drive up. it's definietly one I look forward to playing when I head up to this area, and always make time for it. I recommend checking this one out if you haven't already.

- Course is mostly in a forested area that has significant shrubbery in addition to the various trees. Most fairways are grass or woodchips, with few obstacles in the way. The challenge is more to keep from straying too far off the mowed area. More trees and low canopies near the basket.
- Some slight elevation changes, but nothing too radical. The most significant changes were raised baskets, or baskets located right next to a drop off.
- Water is in play on a few holes, and in some parts can get pretty deep and stagnant. I could see an errant shot ending up in a bad place here and there.
- Lots of different shots needed throughout the entire course, from hard left to hard right. Full of tight fairways with doglegs either way, as well as some dead straight ones. I liked how the forested area had tight, but clear, fairways, and the open holes had matures trees to avoid. Some holes force a line, while others make you find one.
- Great benches, teepads, signage, and decent baskets. Brilliant idea to paint one wire of the basket red to point to the next tee. Alternate tees on many holes were easy to find and also concrete.
- Lots of garbage cans, I saw virtually no garbage anywhere on the course.

- Some of the holes can get a little repetitive, lots of straight/right shots in the forest with minimal obstacles. It is still tough to get the right line with the right power, but they are very similar.
- A lot of the course is on flat land, which also makes the holes blend together. Not much to differentiate one from the other.

- Very solid course, makes great use of the available area. I played the whites the first time through, but checked out the reds as well. Definitely will return to play them some day, without a doubt.

The course plays through a large disc golf only area of a park, with a mix of open fields and some wooded areas. There isn't a lot of elevation, but the available hills are used well, and some pins are artificially elevated on hills or terraces to add some interest and difficulty, as well as some cool looking holes. There is a nice mix of more open holes where the challenge is staying out of the tall grass, and wooded holes that require more finesse to stay out of the thick trees and brush.


Though the short tees don't offer a whole lot of length, the combination of the shorts and longs makes for a wide range of distances and difficulties. There are a couple holes that offer a chance to air it out a little, and some short ace run type holes, with lots in between that are reachable, but still have some difficulty. There are some nice lefty and straight holes mixed in to the mostly RHBH hyzer friendly course. There were some holes with some nice small water hazards that added a cool bit of risk/reward.

The course is very easy to navigate and follow, and there aren't any places I remember having to spend time figuring out where the next tee was, especially with most baskets having a painted spoke pointing you in the right direction.

There are two tees per hole, and many times they offer really different levels of difficulty, and different looks at the hole. It's perfect for a warm up round, then a tougher round, or for groups with wide ranges of skill levels who want to even the playing field a little. Both pads are nicely poured concrete, with a flat gravel area for follow-throughs. The signs were in decent shape, and had the hole layout and distance and were easy to read.

The park is very well kept, with no trash and well-mowed fairways. The course has the area to itself, so there was no interference from other park users.

The tee signs are only located at the short tees, which means that if you are playing the course from the longs the first time, you'll do a lot of extra walking if you want to see the signs before you throw. The long tee is often located directly behind the short tee, so if your group is using both sets of tees it can be a bit of a hassle.

The course is pretty heavily in favor of RHBH hyzer shots. There was enough room here to mix things up a little, and have a little more variety. There was also room to stretch out some of the open holes and add a little more length which would have been nice.

I'm not a huge fan of tall grass as a hazard, it does more to hide discs than it does to really add challenge to actually playing the course. That said, it wasn't on every hole, so it wasn't nearly as bad here as on some other courses. The course can get a little buggy, so make sure you bring bug spray.

This is one of the nicest courses in the Chicago area, and definitely worth the trip. If you combine it with some of the other nice courses in the Joliet area, this part of Chicago offers a great day of disc golf. I would definitely try to get out to this course if you have the chance.

The short tees are definitely beginner friendly, with no navigation issues, and reasonable distances. There are some places to lose discs, but it's not excessive. More advanced players will enjoy the challenge of the longs, and will need to throw accurately to get many birdies from the back tees.

This is par 54 golf at its finest. Really nice park with fantastic tees and baskets. Great bridges and landscaping specifically for the disc golf course in certain places. Its a deuce course, but you have to make some shots out here to card your birdies. There is trouble with heavy rough in some places that yield alot of bogeys. Just a fun course in a nice park.

Its a shorter course so you're not working the distance part of your game much here. Maybe a bit too righty hyzer friendly, but not so much that its not fun for all.

One of the best courses in the Chicagoland area!

Good cement tee pads, decent signs, pretty good baskets, well marked, and no difficulty finding next hole.

Maybe 1 or 2 other groups playing on whole course.

Has good mix of straight, left-right, right-left shots.

Has some very challenging holes that punish errant drives.

Not many negative things to say. Course is well kept and provides a very rewarding 18 hole disc golf experience.

Course punishes bad throws and rewards good decisions and throw execution. Not so much beginner friendly. A good, challenging course in the area and I would recommend to intermediate and expert players.
