Course needs an oil change 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 26, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course has been in ground for about 13 years and still has good things to offer golfers.
Tee pads - some have turf while others of a heavy vinyl feel to them. A couple cool risk/reward shots.

It's signature hole is 14 where you throw over a lake and you usually have an easy putt at the basket which is wedged between two mature trees or you come up short and are heading to your nearest disc golf store for new plastic. Then there is hole 11 where you have the option to reach the pin in two if you have the arm to throw over a creek on which the other basket sits tempting players to go for it. Or you throw, approach, and second approach shot and then hopefully putt.
A few other pin placements are near the water, but the baskets are placed far enough back so each shot isn't a death shot if you miss it. The park allowed the local club to take advantage of a fair amount of land. More of the holes are the longer side but not too crazy long.

Cons:

The course definitely needs some TLC. Since the course is fairly popular the Discatchers clearly have seen better days. None of them are bent, but they're on downside of being good baskets to putt on.

Tee signs are either hard to read or simply gone. Finding the next tee was very tough at times.

The tee pads while fairly effective in the summer months, hold water quiet nicely when it's rained out. ;)

The flow of the course feels forced as in reality it was forced into certain areas. Some holes could have been located elsewhere in the park. For example, the walk from hole 7 to tee of 8 goes along virtually the entire length of hole 1. A. it's too close to hole 1. B. It's about a 200 yard walk. Not terrible but with better planning, there could have had a better flow by not trying to force holes in that tight of an area. There would have been more than enough room for an additional basket or two on the back nine of the course.

Very few chances of hitting an ace. No course should have all ace runs (unless it's meant to be a pitch and putt) but this had one - maybe two chances - of hitting one.

Other Thoughts:

A few dedicated golfers have tried (and have) helped improve the course. But with very little support from the park itself, it's simply an aging course decent enough for leagues or casual players and maybe for a C tier tourney.

If you're going to play this course I'd suggest playing with a local. Is it worth driving out of your way if you happen to be on the New York Thruway? Maybe for course baggers or if a league night is going on and you're up for some fun competition.

Otherwise wait till the park gets that "oil change" so to speak. And with the way the park prioritizes things - it's gonnnnaaaaa be a long wait. Unfortunately.....

Pros:

Location (close to a lot of players) and not too far from Buffalo, baskets aren't falling apart, not much litter.

Cons:

Only mowed a few times in the summer (tons of tall grass), Lots of people waiting for you lose your disc, they will jump in water for it or just straight up steal it up off the ground. I never see these disc scavengers actually play though. Course intertwines with normal park goers (watch out for people and kids), Eats discs like nothing, inefficient course set up (back 9 is terribly laid out, lots of walking just for 3 holes). Nearly impossible to navigate your first time without an familiar player. Hole 3 has a sewage problem and is muddy 24/7 even during a drought. Most tee boxes are mud pits the majority of the year.

Other Thoughts:

With so many water hazards, there are people with wet suites and fishing poles who regularly scavenge the creek. I don't expect to get discs back and I know they are everywhere but it's annoying when they watch you throw just to see where your disc goes so they can grab it, hoping for you to duff your shot. I only play there because it's so close but every other course in WNY is way better.

Pros:

Nice park setting, baskets in good shape, options available with three tees per hole, practice basket and large field next to hole one for warm up.

Cons:

Too much water for beginners, some tough over water shots, some baskets too close to water, lots of standing water on course, tee markers are terrible (4" concrete blocks flush with ground very hard to find), tall grass above knee high in spots,

Other Thoughts:

Directions on this website's page confusing (no idea what skating rink or casino they're talking about).
