Unique course drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 28, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Private course on a beautiful property. The course wraps through and around a farm in scenic north central Maryland farm country. There is a significant variety of holes included tight woods, moderate woods, open fields, water carry, downhill shots, uphill shots, etc. The designers clearly sought to require different types of shots and shot shaping, which is a big plus. There are significant elevation changes on a number of the holes. I believe I only played the shorter tees, but I think there are longer tees for most of the holes. The beauty of the property, the scenic farmland and creative hole layouts are strong positives for the course. The course was not crowded the day I played (Saturday of Memorial Day weekend) even though the weather was nice. If there are no events at the course the day you play, it is likely the course will not be crowded, which is a positive feature given that courses are getting increasingly crowded.

Cons:

The biggest con is the tee pads. Some of the tee pads are pavers and are fine, though a few of the paver tee pads are a little on the short side. However, a number of tee pads are short concrete slabs, several of which are raised off the ground and are uneven, which can make even a moderate walk/run up challenging. Some of the pads were rather slippery, but It had rained the day before. If they were dry, the grip may have been OK (though the concrete is smooth as opposed rough/textured). The course uses Liberty baskets, which are adequate, but not great. Higher grade baskets (such as Innova) would improve the course (but I realize those baskets are costly).

I think if the tee pads are upgraded, the course would be worthy of a 4. Tee pads plus upgraded baskets would make this course really amazing.

Other Thoughts:

I played my round with the course designer who is also a Youtube disc golf instructional video producer. It was a great experience. The course is different from the typical public park course and is "off the beaten path" so to speak. It will definitely challenge you and the layout offers plenty of variety. It's worth playing. From what I understand there are Wednesday night dubs and there is night/glow disc golfing (I don't know the details). There is also a par 2 tiki layout.

Pros:

Course has various elevation shots. a few trick baskets, and a great venue. Course rotates holes and positions throughout the season giving wide variety and a little more excitement! The Ruhlman family and course volunteers do a good job with upkeep! Thanks.

Cons:

As it is not permanent and moves seasonally course navigation is rough without a map so make sure to print a map or grab one from the Brewery store. There are few tee pad structures and ones that they have aren't the nicest. They do get the job done though. There are a bunch of briers, wet spots, and rocks. Make sure you wear proper attire.

Other Thoughts:

The Brewery makes some good brews. My favorite is Rebel Rye. Plenty to choose from as well as hosting concerts, festivals, and various tournaments (cornhole, horshoes, and obviously disc golf)!
