Secluded with Variety 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 13, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

The most private course I've played, with both challenge and easier birdies available.

-Seclusion: The most secluded of any course I've played. You can count on one hand the number of buildings visible from any part of the course, and the loudest sound is easily the neighboring cattle. I played while the owner wasn't on site, and other than about two cars, there was no sign of other life.

-Scenery: Another idyllic Colorado course. This one is more in the plains, but there are plenty of mountains visible. I love the drives along US-285 and CO-9 nearby.

-Shot Shaping/Gameplay: The course is on the shorter side, but has some solid challenges mixed in. The variety is excellent. The range of woods goes from completely open to very wooded, with a good mix in between. Where present, the pines act like a brick wall, stopping the disc dead in its path. Elevation is unsurprisingly a substantial part of the course, though not as extreme as at some other ranches in the area. There are opportunities for almost any kind of shot at some point on this course, from touchy putter turnovers to big drives to precise midranges. There are a handful of multi-shot holes, which were my favorite. I would consider the back nine to be more interesting and challenging than the front.

-Fun Factor: Due to the length, there are quite a few birdieable holes out here. I wouldn't say they are easy birdies, but if you're on point then you can rack them up quickly, and that makes it feel like a nicer round.

Cons:

-Tees: Though well-marked, the natural tees are pitted. This is understandable for a private course, but is definitely an annoyance on the holes long enough to need a full drive.

-Champion Caliber: Not happening here. Even the multi-shot holes are on the shorter end, so Dreamtime isn't the most challenging track. There are quite a few straightforward holes that, while they don't detract from the course, don't add much either.

-Biting Insects: The only place around here I had trouble with insects. I had to return to my car after the first hole to apply repellent because of painful flies.

-Drive: Lots of dirt roads. I had zero issues in my 2WD sedan.

Other Thoughts:

Dreamtime was worth the long drive. I had the course all to myself, and it is an idyllic track for that. In addition, it struck a very enjoyable balance of birdies and challenge which, while not putting it on my all-times list, endeared it to me.

-Amenities: A mixed bag. The tees are marked but pitted, and only sometimes have the hole number on a stake. Baskets are numbered black holes, but there are a couple of times where it's not evident which basket is correct for a hole (especially on 12-13). I don't recall any tee signs. There are often stakes marking the path to the next hole.

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 26, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

The course is on a gorgeous piece of private property. It has quite the variety of shots from long bombs to ace runs. Very challenging course but yet very scoreable.

Cons:

Well worth the drive to get there

Other Thoughts:

Course is Great, the privacy is nice but the hospitality from the Barkers is the best!

Dream Time Ranch is worth the drive 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 18, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- This is a private course and is really well designed with a great variety of shots and terrain.
- The host, Scott, is a nice guy who goes out of his way to make sure his guests are take care of. He gave a thorough explanation of each hole and provided one of the most descriptive sheets I've seen with a course map and breakdown of each hole, including various approaches to try.
- There are 3 holes with spectacular views of the surrounding valley (4, and 10 & 12 if I recall)
- It's very secluded and remote, and Scott is probably open to accommodating special requests.
- Scott also has a nice gas grill, coolers, water, and picnic tables he provides. I wish we had known so we could have taken advantage of that grill inbetween rounds.
- There are at least 3-4 legit Ace run holes
- Good mix of forehand and backhand shots in the design.
- There are marked paths with white stakes to the next tee that makes it perfectly clear where you're going next, and there are only 3 blind shots where you can't see the basket from the tee (or close to it).

Cons:

- The course is a work in progress so there was only one tee box per hole, although Scott says additional (more challenging) tees are coming.
- The tee boxes were natural and a few were fairly short making it difficult to get a big wind-up. However, Scott says he's bringing pavers in soon to upgrade them.
- The pars were set to PDGA guidelines, but quite a few holes played easy because of length. i.e. Lots of birdies to be had.

Other Thoughts:

There's a bit of climbing to be done, and the elevation is somewhere over 9000' but it's not as grueling as some of the other courses in the area.

Bring grillables, and plan to stay all day and get 2 rounds in with lunch inbetween.

Rocky Mountain Fun! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 18, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Your own private course for the day!
- Challenging
- You'll use a wide array of shots
- Stellar views
- You'll receive hole-by-hole notes and tips as well as a spoken orientation from Scott, the owner, which made playing the course the first time much easier than typical.

Cons:

- Extremely remote (for me, this was a pro and not a con but I suppose could be a problem for some)
- A couple of the holes kind of play on top of each other, which, if you have a small group out there like we did didn't cause any problems, however I imagine it could become an issue if larger groups and/or tournaments are held here.
- The only other cons are things that likely will get hammered out as Scott continues to develop the course, so I don't really feel the need to mention them.

Other Thoughts:

Scott is a GREAT guy and a wonderful host. His course is young, but already world class and will only continue to appreciate with age and tinkering. I would recommend this course to anyone who comes within 100 miles of it. Make a day out of it, play it twice, and enjoy the serenity! Thanks Scott!
