Secluded with Variety 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 13, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

The most private course I've played, with both challenge and easier birdies available.

-Seclusion: The most secluded of any course I've played. You can count on one hand the number of buildings visible from any part of the course, and the loudest sound is easily the neighboring cattle. I played while the owner wasn't on site, and other than about two cars, there was no sign of other life.

-Scenery: Another idyllic Colorado course. This one is more in the plains, but there are plenty of mountains visible. I love the drives along US-285 and CO-9 nearby.

-Shot Shaping/Gameplay: The course is on the shorter side, but has some solid challenges mixed in. The variety is excellent. The range of woods goes from completely open to very wooded, with a good mix in between. Where present, the pines act like a brick wall, stopping the disc dead in its path. Elevation is unsurprisingly a substantial part of the course, though not as extreme as at some other ranches in the area. There are opportunities for almost any kind of shot at some point on this course, from touchy putter turnovers to big drives to precise midranges. There are a handful of multi-shot holes, which were my favorite. I would consider the back nine to be more interesting and challenging than the front.

-Fun Factor: Due to the length, there are quite a few birdieable holes out here. I wouldn't say they are easy birdies, but if you're on point then you can rack them up quickly, and that makes it feel like a nicer round.

Cons:

-Tees: Though well-marked, the natural tees are pitted. This is understandable for a private course, but is definitely an annoyance on the holes long enough to need a full drive.

-Champion Caliber: Not happening here. Even the multi-shot holes are on the shorter end, so Dreamtime isn't the most challenging track. There are quite a few straightforward holes that, while they don't detract from the course, don't add much either.

-Biting Insects: The only place around here I had trouble with insects. I had to return to my car after the first hole to apply repellent because of painful flies.

-Drive: Lots of dirt roads. I had zero issues in my 2WD sedan.

Other Thoughts:

Dreamtime was worth the long drive. I had the course all to myself, and it is an idyllic track for that. In addition, it struck a very enjoyable balance of birdies and challenge which, while not putting it on my all-times list, endeared it to me.

-Amenities: A mixed bag. The tees are marked but pitted, and only sometimes have the hole number on a stake. Baskets are numbered black holes, but there are a couple of times where it's not evident which basket is correct for a hole (especially on 12-13). I don't recall any tee signs. There are often stakes marking the path to the next hole.
