I want another chance at this BEAST! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 23, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

A good mix of challenge. Good length and elevation change. Has good bones and appears to have aged well. It looks like Dubois County has taken care of the property very well.

I played after a few days of heavy rain so I feel like I didn't get to see the course at it's best but I want to come back and try again in better weather. It is very alluring.

Good tee pads. Good signs on course. Very intuitive flow of play. Next tee was obvious from the basket etc. Benches on a few holes and trash cans available. Clean park.

Cons:

It's right off the highway but I'm not from Indiana so even with Google Maps it was kinda tricky to find.

The parking lot was under construction and not clear that it was the parking area. Not a huge deal and it looks like it will be fixed soon.

Looks like they might need some drainage solutions. Several pads were mud slicks because of recent rain. But they were all obviously in good condition concrete wise. There was a lot of extra standing water on a few holes that was not noted as water features. It could be something they are molding in.

I lost a disc (this is a me problem). I bequeath it to the burgeoning DG scene in souther IN. Fish out a Champ Eagle x along the shore of #4 and keep huckin'.

Other Thoughts:

Like I said above I'm not from Indiana and am just visiting. I happened to catch bad weather all week and I took a shot at playing during a break in the rain. I could tell this was something special and I might not be getting the best look because the conditions.

It was cold and windy and really muddy out there. Every hole seemed 100ft longer than the tee sign. One hole on the back had an impromptu water feature. It felt like I was playing a headwind on every hole (could just be a midwest thing I'm not used to.)

Also it seemed like it backed up to a subdivision and I was about to stumble on somebody's lawn at any moment. Don't know how this will grow/change with time.

I feel like in about 10 years when some of the trees grow in, this will be top shelf for the area. It's a great challenging course that appears to be well maintained. It also seems like it's not a thing yet in this part of the world. I really hope it stays. They have a dragon's egg here.

A Young Course on the Rise 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 24, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course has a great flow to it, it begins around water, dips into the woods, and then out into the open, and finishes with a throw over water. The teepads are nice and long, adequate for some of the long holes the back 9 has. The pictures of this course are a bit dated, as the grass has grown, it's not muddy, and I played this course just one day after rain. The signs are nice, and provide all the necessary information. The kiosk at the beginning is large, and provides a lot of info as well. There are several trash cans throughout the course, so please use them. It's a young course, but it's growing rapidly. There are a nice mix of lefts, rights, longs, shorts, and water throws. You will be happy with the variety it gives.

Cons:

The course still being fairly new, does have several holes that are extremely wide open. The park has planted many trees along these holes, so as they grow and mature, the difficulty will go up significantly. The water holes aren't extremely daunting, but a newbie can easily lose a disc if your throws aren't that great. It was extremely windy when I played today, and it created havoc with my throws, but I still didn't lose a disc in water. Just keep that in mind.

Other Thoughts:

Parking is a little far from the beginning and the end of the course, but not so much where it bothered me. If you play this course with the brand new Cupertino's Course down the road in St. Meinrad, they compliment each other well for a good day of 27 holes of disc golf. This course will get better as it ages as well, and with a little care, it may be able to crack a 4. For an area that for years was completely devoid of courses, this is a nice addition!

course conditions much improved 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 4, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Grass is in good shape all over course now. Pictures of holes 6-17 are out of date-the grass is nice and mown and the dirt is firm.
Very nice benches and trashcans installed on several holes now.
Great signs and tee pads, along with professional hole design.
Very well taken care of all over. I saw no litter at all.

Not crowded. At 5:30pm on a Monday I was only guy on course. one walker/bicyclist [same person].

Cons:

Not much shade on ~2/3rds of the course. trees and young and small
Not much parking, a quite a bit of walking

Pros:

The course is still fairly new and going through the growing pains that most new courses will go through. The front 4 holes are around a lake and make you reconsider your shot selection, but as long as you play the holes smart you shouldn't have many problems. Hole 5 is a tight tunnel shot. The rest of the course is fairly open with a mix of trees and water shots on several holes. Good tee pads on all holes.

Cons:

The course was still recovering from the reseeding last fall, but as long as the maintenance is kept up on the course it should grow in well. More trash cans needed. The course was clean, but with more use that might be a problem in the future. Benches along the course would also be a plus.

Other Thoughts:

All in all a good course to let it air out.
