Pros:

Durham Rec Center is a mostly open course whose most interesting attribute is its elevation. There are some fun downhill shots and elevation changes are well-used overall. The course plays relatively quickly, with lots of birdieable holes for an intermediate-level arm.

The fairways themselves seem to be maintained well.

Cons:

Fairways are often bordered by waist-high rough. In addition to being a bad place to end up in its own right, this promotes conservative play on a course whose main attractiveness for intermediate and advanced players is the ability to play aggressively for aces and birdies. The significant and pervasive threat of losing your disc in an open field outweighs the small merits of scoring well on the simple layout. Beginners are even worse off, with the elevation changes making ending up in the rough at some point likely. It's thus hard to know who the target audience for this course is.

The course is extremely open and shots are uncontested. Besides managing the elevation changes, there's little to think about beyond the need to avoid the rough.

Our round was cut short by a rather smug and overzealous archery coach, who seemed all too eager to commandeer as much of the course as he could.

Other Thoughts:

With its combination of significant rough, open shots, and competition with non-disc golfers, it's hard to recommend Dunham Rec Center for anything other than bagging a course given the multitude of options in the immediate area.
