Eagle Ranch

Pros:

-- Nice course map at hole 1.
-- Variation in length of holes (1 from the blues is 567 feet while four holes can play less than 200 feet).
-- Perhaps the best/easiest navigation of any course I have played. "Next tee" signs hanging from the bottom of each basket. The one on No. 5 was pointing in the wrong direction, but that has been corrected. A couple of tees/baskets seem a little close on first glance, but after several plays, I have come to realize that problems are extremely unlikely.
-- Elevation. Almost all holes have you throwing uphill or downhill.
-- Tee pads and tee signs are new and in good shape.
-- New Innova DiscCatcher baskets. No. 1 was damaged and repaired, but one side of the catching basket is 4-6 inches higher than the other side.
-- Other than a walking path, which doesn't seem to get a ton of use, and a soccer practice field that you walk past but don't throw near, there is nothing else in the area.
-- Water in play on three (five if you stretch it) of nine holes, but two of those (4 and 9) give you a shorter red tee that takes away almost all of the water danger. No. 4 is about 300 feet across the water, so the 144-foot red tee was welcomed.
-- Multiple tee pads on three holes.
-- Practice basket west of No. 1 short tee, but it is now leaning.
-- Stepping stones on the path to Nos. 7 and 8 tees, which tends to be muddy.

Cons:

-- None of the amenities such as bathrooms, water or benches at the tee pads.Only three trash cans, and two of them are at Nos. 1 and 9, so really only one trash can out on the course.
-- Parking is on the street.
-- No. 8 basket is leaning.
-- Can be really muddy. On my first visit in May, recent rains really made some fairways a muddy mess, but on a second visit in late June, almost everything was dry 60 hours after a big rain. On my most-recent visit in February), mud/water covered half of the course and two tee pads despite there not having been any rain in the past four days.

Other Thoughts:

-- The danger on two of the water holes is somewhat obscured. On 7, water is 10 feet away from the basket on what is definitely an ace run (218 feet downhill). On 9, trees and tall grass obscure a small creek. It's not hard to clear (or to dig a disc out of), but if you clip a tree, you could end up wet. Water is also about 25 feet from the basket on 8, but given the line to the basket and the low tree limbs, you are unlikely to reach the water.
-- While there are no "signature" holes (the exception might be the 333 foot downhill long tee on No. 4 that is a water carry), there are also no filler or boring holes.
-- The local home owners association pays for the course (and upkeep). That means it really is intended for the home owners (which makes the lack of parking understandable). Visitors are welcome, but we should remember we are visitors and act accordingly.
-- There appears to be room to add 9 more holes to make this an 18-hole course with more water in play and views of big water. However, given who runs it and the target audience, I don't think that is likely.

Pros:

This is a pretty nice Course over close to the lake. Very nice Innova Baskets. Hole 2 basket is a little bent prob from kid jumping on it. All baskets are in place only last basket is really hard to throw to and hard to cross. Its a jungle. Going to load a Aerial view of the course layout. Was on the list to complete in DFW but was actually pretty fun.

Great Beginner Course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 29, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This is a fun and easy course designed by the best course designer in disc golf, John Houck. The course is short and sweet with elevation changes playing a big role throughout most of the course. The layout of this course is very simple being there are only seven holes, so navigation should not be an issue when playing here. It is short but still fun as you start off on hole # 1 with a nice long downhill shot to the basket, which is the longest hole on the course. The rest of the course is basic pretty simple with straight short shots up rocky sided hills. There are a few chances to hit an ace on a couple of holes since there fairly short. All holes have nice concrete tee pads which are the perfect size and give you plenty of room for a good run up. I believe only two holes have multiple concrete tee pads and the rest of the course only have one per hole. The yellow DISCatchers are in great shape and are visible from each tee. The course is very clean and well maintained and is never crowded, so you probably have this course to yourself when playing here.

Cons:

There is no parking lot for park users so you have to park on the side of road by hole # 1. I noticed there were not any trashcans on the course, so any trash you bring in, make sure you take it with you. Hole # 3 tee pad seems to be soggy all the time so the ground is probably saturated in that area since it is by the pond. I'm not sure what the deal is with hole # 7. There is a basket but it is sitting on top of a hill and you have to throw over a creek through a wall of trees to get to it. There is no fairway on this hole, good luck trying to throw a tomahawk or thumber on this hole with having your disc fall in that poison Ivy infested creek. I just skipped this hole. They need to move the basket on the left side of the creek just before you have to cross it. I think the basket actually used to be there in the first place.

Other Thoughts:

This course was designed for beginners so more advanced players will not be challenged when playing here. The course is still fun for players who don't feel like playing big and just want to throw a nice and easy, simple game. I will play this course again when I'm in the area.
