Older Course in Need of a Makeover 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 22, 2021 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Mostly wooded, extremely technical course with some open holes mixed in.

Signs for multiple tee pad lengths with pin placements

Most holes follow a logical layout, even with some walks between pin & pad (10-11)

Wooded, which means shade is there when you need it.

The biggest pro for me was elevation changes on a few holes, which makes for interesting and challenging shots.

Cons:

Some of the holes just didn't make sense, quick doglegs from the back tee, uphill blind throws with no real paths through & just pray you don't hit something. I don't mind a technical course but on many of the holes there was no clear line for any type of drive.

A par 3 could be an easy layup shot straight ahead or down a long narrow alley filled with trees that you needed two throws to even spot the basket.

Signage for multiple tee pads, but on most holes there was one short concrete pad & maybe a colored rock or signs of what used to be gravel near what may be another.

Trash was everywhere (no trash cans contributed) & what grass there was on the fairways needed cut & the weeds under the baskets looked as if they'd been missed on a few mowing sessions. Boards with nails sticking up, tires, old clothes, towels, etc

Benches were rotting with weeds growing up thru them on many of the holes

The creek/drainage ditch running thru the course had an orange sludge through most of it, that I hadn't seen before, not sure if it was runoff from something or some type of algae bloom

Parking was an issue both times we played with the small lots being filled and people parking up on the curbs/grass or down the street near the entrance

Other Thoughts:

I try not to be overly negative on courses, as at least there is a course there & an opportunity to play, but this one had me struggling to find the positives. What makes it more disheartening is you can see the resources put in the immaculate other recreation facilities there, tennis, soccer, & baseball, all were very well maintained with new equipment. It just seems like they put the DG course in & forgot about it over the years. When DG may be at its all time high as far as popularity, they really need to at least do the minimum to maintain the course.

If they rehab or update it I'll give it another shot, but the way it is it just wasn't a fun experience. I know several people who just won't play the course any more as there are better options out there.
