Fun tight course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 14, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice mix of hyzer and anhyzer lines
Good signage (if you have udisc and are able to find the first hole)
Teepads and baskets in good shape
Requires a technical tee shot on pretty much every hole
No real chance to lose a disc
Short course so a good chance to put up a low score
Hole 9 as well as 18 comes out near the parking lot

Cons:

Like I said above I had a very hard time finding the first tee and eventually had to ask a local.
Quite a bit of trash on the fairway
A few problems with losing my footing on some tee shots but wasn't a horrible problem

Other Thoughts:

This was a really fun course that challenged me to hit my lines very precisely. Really just a midrange and putter kind of course, I don't think I pulled out my fairway driver once.

Very challenging and also very rewarding 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 2, 2020 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Course has varying levels of throwing pads so everyone can play
-Flow of course is easy to navigate
-Most of the underbrush has been removed but a 2nd set of eyes is a good idea for finding wayward discs
-Course can be played nearly all year
-Aces are possible
-Creative lines for wooded play

Cons:

-Not enough trash cans and the litter bugs do shop up
-Only the black tee box is a paved pad
-No signage for course, which is located in the most rear part of park and parking can be limited
-Course can be a bit intimidating to new players with the amount time spent playing between narrow tree paths

Other Thoughts:

This is my home course and it serves me and my friends well.
You have to be creative with some of your shots. This can sometimes push you out of your comfort zone, which can sometimes be very rewarding.

Solid course, relatively close by 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 1, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Black tee pads are awesome
-Black tees have awesome metal signs with a written description of the hole, as well as anything else you could know about the hole.
-Baskets are highly visible yellow DISCatchers, they are noticeably old and a little rusty, but they catch just fine.
-As with most wooded courses, the fairways are dirt and other sticks and things, but this isn't a bad thing and the fairways are easy to walk on and don't make weird skips or rolls.
-The ground of the rough is about the same as the fairway, but with more trees.
-This courses uses very good elevation, some holes are uphill, some are down, etc.
-This is a good woods course because there are good trees throughout the entire course, a lot of courses only have trees in the rough as a sort of punishment, but what makes this course good, is that it has trees in the fairway that actually enhance play.
-The map on DGCR is super helpful, that being said, there is no map at the course.
-Only one hole has a mando, but it is good, and enhances the hole
-A lot of holes have benches at the tees.
-A couple holes have lots of open space to get creative.
-No garbage laying on the fairways.

Cons:

-Red and Blue pads are natural, and barely indicated.
-Paths are loose dirt with roots, easy to loose your footing.
-Would be pretty tricky to navigate without the map, I got lost between 13 and 14 and had to check the map on most other holes.
-This is a pretty crowded course, which is just a personal preference, but I guess that just means that the course is popular.
-The course is in a small park for the number of holes and distance, so many fairways are right next to each other and it is pretty cramped.

Other Thoughts:

-This course gets a 3/4 on the new shoe index.
I liked this course, it is not to far away from Atlanta, and definitely worth the drive.

Roswell Rocks Right Now 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 5, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

East Roswell Park has several great holes and features heavily wooded fairways on the majority of the 18 holes, and drastic elevation changes are common. No water in play that I saw. I like these kinds of courses the best, because of holes like 2, 6 or 9. 2 is downhill all the way, a putter throw for me, with gaps between tall trees giving lanes to th bucket. 6 drops way down a hill and climbs up another, with a more tall trees making drive placement critical. Challenging course that has worked me both times I have played it. Most recent round I got a 64, with birdies on hole 2 and 14. There are concrete tees and signs on all holes. Good baskets on each hole, except 11, which is apparently gone (temporarily?) due to construction.

Cons:

Looking for the missing tee threw me off. Otherwise a very solid course. Not exactly beginner friendly. Playground and walking paths are near several holes.

Other Thoughts:

East Roswell Park is very good, despite hole 11 being out of commission. A number a of other remarkable holes that I excluded descriptions from this review. One of the best around ATL, IMO. Sort of like Richmond Hill in Asheville.

Excellent Course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 2, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Course is very wooded/technical.
- Layout is very reasonable for the land it's on. Good design.
- Signage is for the most part very good.
- With the exception of one hole (No. 8) there is space to throw discs in the fairways. It's tight and demands accuracy, but it's not unfair nor do the lanes have trees in the fairway that make straight approaches impossible (like at Little Mulberry in Gwinnett Co., Ga).
- The course is very "fair". Yes, you'll be punished by an errant throw, but a good throw will give a good "look" and opportunity for the next throw. This is really all one can ask for on a technical course.
- Holes are challenging but not so tough that a family with kids can't go out and have a fun day. This course will not beat you up like some (Little Mulberry in Gwinnett Co., Ga, comes to mind).
- It is VERY nice that Holes #9 and #18 end right near the playground and parking lot where #1 and #10 start.
- Course is good for beginners and experienced players alike. One can also bring discs for specific shots, but could play the course with only one or two discs (putter and midrange/fwy.driver).

Cons:

- Hole No. 11 is dead because of road construction. They'll have to find a way to get a new Hole 11 in.
- With Hole 11 out, getting from Hole 10 basket to Hole 12 tee is not easy, not intuitive, and not marked at all.
- Hole 8 requires a layup, but even after a good shot the remaining "fairway" on the dogleg-right is chock-full of trees. I'd like to see some of the trees cleared out to make the approach shots more fair.
- While signage is generally good, it could be improved. If you haven't played this course, bring a printed-out map with you; it will help where the signage isn't there to navigate.
- Restrooms are not very close to the course.
- Some of the par designations are not realistic. A 397 foot hole is a par 3 if it's open space or partially so, but on this tight a course that's a stretch. And a tightly wooded hole that is well over 500 feet being just par 4? I don't think even expert players would agree with that one.

Other Thoughts:

- I really like this course. I hope they can get #11 worked out, and just a few more signs here and there and this is a truly premiere course. It's challenging but fair, a bit physically demanding but not overly exhausting.
- I recommend good hiking boots/shoes after the rains; wet and messy means unsecure footing on some uphill and downhill holes.

One of my favorites in ATL 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 27, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

* Challenging - requires both distance and accuracy

* lots of elevation changes

Cons:

* hard to find your way to and around if you aren't familiar with it.

Other Thoughts:

This is one of my favorite courses in the Atlanta area - the fairways are wide enough to allow nice distance shots, but they also require accuracy. Missing your lines will set you back without a doubt. Some of the hilltop-to-hilltop shots are fun and make this course unique. It's obvious that this course gets lots of love from the local Disc Golf crew. My only beef was trying to find my way around - took a while to find where to start from the multiple parking lots at this park. If you go to Atlanta though, this course is a must.

- Well groomed.
- Great range of difficulty with different tee pads.

Cons:

Get out of my dreams, and into the woods. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 20, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

A large variety of difficulty based on the tees of your choice.

Good, level, consistent teepads.

A huge variety of shots required to score even decently.

All discatchers in good shape.

Two separate loops for both 9's both starting and ending next to the parking lot.

Located inside of a very nice and friendly family park, with lots of other activities such as a large playground for your little rag-muffins to run around. :|

A hugeeeee amount of elevation, especially for an atlanta area course.

A good amount of benches spread throughout the course, you'll definitely want to use them.

Cons:

Not a huge con, but, you will not be getting the chance to air out any shots here really. This course is all about precision, so not so much a con, but just something to think about.

If you're playing from the longs, off the top of my head I can recall a couple of tee-shots that are nearly impossible to get within two range off the tee.

Other Thoughts:

This course is awesome. It challenges every single aspect of your game, seriously. You may get frustrated out here, the key here is to play real golf. Throwing big D drivers off the tee may grant you a chance at a 2, or you may kick early and be praying for a four. Play smart and it's very possible to hover around even for a solid intermediate level player.

If you're in this area of ATL, this is the course to choose. This, Perkerson & Moseley are the gems of the area, it's too bad they are all so far apart.

Great shaded course for that HOT Georgia sun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 14, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course was in a great park with baseball fields, nicely taken care of soccer/lacrosse fields and tennis courts. Awesome playground area for kids. Picnic areas and pavilions and great parking. In a nice area of town as well. This was the first time I have been here and I loved every minute of it. The first hole was a little hard to find for people like me who have never been there but you ask anyone and they will point you in the right direction. I love wooded courses so this was a paradise for me. I can only think of one hole where it was moderately open. The hole with the 18 wheel trailers, which was a nice touch but a crazy hard hole to get even a 3 on. I would recommend this course to anyone if your in the area and the locals were very nice and told me alot of great tips on the course and alot of info about other courses around. It was shaded the whole time and had a great breeze. Great challenge for beginners and pros. Nice tee boxes and informative signs that tell you which was next hole is. Not crowded at all when I went and I went on a Saturday which is a good sign that you can come here anytime and play at your own pace.

Cons:

I can't really think of any cons except maybe better signs after the hole to point you to where next hole is. It tells you on original tee box sign but I often forget to pay attention at the tee. So not really a con but it would be nice to have a sign to help the non-locals out. Overall there was no major cons to complain about.

Other Thoughts:

Heard it was a great course and used for many tournaments so that's why I chose this course to play on my limited time in Atlanta. I want to try the other local courses (Will's, Perkerson, Oregon) but I will definitely come back to this course for a round when I have more time. Highly recommended to pro's and beginners.

fun and challenging course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 28, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

- A great wooded course with excellent use of the elevation changes. Awesome design on most holes.

- tight lines and tight fairways but always a "fair way" to the basket. No poke 'n pray.

- signage was good and multiple teepad options makes it suitable for all skill levels.

- Hole 1 & 10 start by playground and holes 9 & 18 end near playground for an excellent loop back design.

- great variation in shots required on each hole.

- awesome & unique hole 4 with a set of freight trailers to clear in the fairway before a downhill green. Fun hole!

Cons:

- worn-in natural tee pads that might cause some overly cautious run-ups during drives for those that are more used to playing on concrete pads. I could also see these getting a little messy & potentially slippery after some rain.

- navigation to the next hole can be tricky for first timers if you don't pay attention to the tee signs. Next hole location only seemed to be indicated on the tee signs and not with arrows after the basket. If you didn't notice where the next hole is on the tee sign and you don't see the obvious route then you may have to go back to the tee pad to check the sign. Once you've played the course once, this should no longer be an issue.

Other Thoughts:

This course is more difficult than it looks. The park is nice and full of amnenities and the course gets plenty of play. I really enjoyed my round here despite not playing well. It's worth a stop if passing through town.

Challenging course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 14, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This is a great course which will require you to make all kinds of throws. You will need all your discs and strategy. If you can throw straight then you will hit the fairways otherwise you are in the woods. Lots of uphill throws which make it seem really far. 3 Tee boxes for each hole are color coded and are for all skill levels. So as you get better you can go longer with the Black tees. Baskets are pretty knew and have Yellow tops which make it easier to see in the summer with all the Green. Just a fun course.

Cons:

Some tee boxes are washing away but not to bad. Some signs were missing but they do update frequently.

Other Thoughts:

Alot of the holes are really good distance so bring your arm. On hole 4 if you land your disc on top of the big rig obstacles just beware a policeman told me he could arrest me for climbing up there to get the disc.

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 12, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

We played 3 courses in the Atlanta on a trip for disc golf and this was by far the best course. This course had a great mixture of lengths, open, and technical shots. Although we finished the last 6 holes in the pitchblack dark, we had a great experience. We played black tees and they were very long and finished properly. Also, the baskets were superb. There were restrooms close to the course which was a huge plus. Tees were marked well and color coding made the black tees easy to distinguish from the others. The course was easy to follow and was a great challenge.

Cons:

There were little things I disliked about this course. I may have overlooked it but I don't recall a sign pointing to hole 1. As I said, I may have overlooked it. Other than that minor thing, this was an awesome experience.

Other Thoughts:

I had a blast playing this course as wooded courses are my favorite. And for another though, if you love huge playgrounds, there is one of the biggest I have ever seen that gave us a little flashback to childhood after the round. This was a great couse and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is in the Atlanta area.

Excellent Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 16, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

If you are visiting Atlanta, this IS the course to play..and It's not far outside of the city. Although the course is heavily wooded, there are actual fairways..not 'throw and hope' luck shots, which makes the course enjoyable. If you keep it on the fairway, this course will reward you. The things I loved the most about this course were 1. The hole explanations. On the black tees there are these silver signs with a detailed explanation of how the hole plays and what a good score would be. It was pretty cool! 2. How broken in the course was; I could tell this course has been played a lot, which was a good thing. It was easy to walk and throw... and there were many broken in paths showing you where to go. If you are in Atlanta, this is the course you should go too.

Cons:

After hole #3, I was kind of confused on where the next hole was... and there are not many signs pointing to where the next hole is. If the locals added a couple signs...this problem would be fixed.

Other Thoughts:

This course is located in an excellent park with bathrooms, baseball fields, a great playground for the kids, soccer fields, a shelter with tables, tennis course and also bike and walking trails. This park would be a great place to bring the family, or to go out with a bunch of friends for the day.
Also! This is a shorter more accurate course. I only used my Buzzz and my Challenger the entire round and shot a 57 on my first time playing the course....and I do not play Open. If you want to unleash drives...this is not the course

One I will travel for 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 23, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a fun course that requires you to use a variety of shots. Tee box placement changes not only length of the hole but shot type as well. The layout is very friendly if you only have time to play nine holes. The course is easy to find, and is close to the highway so it is very accessible.

Cons:

The gravel tee boxes are hazardous, some of them are very washed out. The course is not extremely well marked, and it can be difficult to find the next hole. Hole number 4 is rather annoying with the semi trailers.

Other Thoughts:

Though this course is very wooded, but a missed shot is not punished too harshly due to the lack of underbrush in many areas. I will definitely return to play this one again.

Pros:

Multiple Tee boxes on every hole

Wooded course that still allows for Long drive opportunities. Best of Both worlds!

The signage at each hole was great! It shows the hole layout, with distance and goal placement. I admit that I still walked a little to make sure the goal was where I thought on some holes, but the signs were very accurate.

Rolling hills throughout, so you get a great workout during the game.

Big trees everywhere that keep you cool even in the hot georgia summer.

A course with numberous trash cans! Nice!!

Laid out with a front nine and a back nine, so you come back toward the playground/bathroom area before you start the back 9 holes.

Cons:

One tee box for each hole was concrete, but the other two options were gravel and some had some erosion issues. (not much, but not flat either). I liked the course from the long, concrete tees.

Other Thoughts:

really fun course that will absolutely punish an errant throw from the teebox. I'm going to play this again soon!

Really fun wooded course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 23, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course plays almost entirely through tight deciduous forest with thick undergrowth. The rough is plenty thick enough to provide punishment on errant shots, between the brush and the dense trees you'll often need to get creative or even just pitch out if you miss the fairway. There are some small elevation changes, but they come into play on nearly every hole adding challenge and variety. The course is pretty short overall, but offers a ton of variety in hole shape. The design is very balanced between left, right and straight shots, and you'll need some tight line shaping skills to score well.

There are three clearly marked sets of tees on every hole, which adds to the variety and replayability quite a bit. The blacks are longer, and add quite a bit of difficulty. They often have an extra bend or pinch point to navigate, and a few add significant length. The blues and reds are both shorter, and often offer very different looks at the hole. There are tee signs at the black tees that are nice engraved metal, and offer the hole distance and line from each set of tees.

Cons:

The blue and red tees are natural, and many are a little eroded and rutted out. Not a huge deal, especially with mostly shorter holes that don't require much of a runup, but still a bit frustrating at times. I'd like to see a little bit of basic signage at the shorter tees, even just the hole length, it's not ideal to always have to go to the back tees to check the sign. There are several fairways that show signs of significant erosion issues, it's a popular course with wooded hills, so that's going to be a pretty constant issue.

Other Thoughts:

Any one of the sets of tees would make a pretty good course, and having all three with creative designs makes for a ton of fun and variety. Beginners will find most of the reds and blues pretty approachable in length, though the rough is pretty punishing for less accurate players. More experienced players will find a ton of birdies from the shorter tees, but only if you hit your lines. The long tees offer some nice challenges even for skilled throwers.
