Pros:

-Located in Elysian Park in Echo Park neighborhood of LA, this hilly 18 hole course provides a great view of Dodger Stadium and downtown on the eighteenth hole.
-Multiple pins and tees to make things interesting.
-Very secluded. You won't see anyone but disc golfers on the course.
-Technical course. Avoiding the hills is just as, or more important than, avoiding the trees. Leave the drivers in the bag.
-Great tee signs. I didn't get lost, once I found the course itself!

Cons:

-I'd give this course would get higher rating if the hills were not so severe. On #7 I hit the cage on my 25ft putt and it rolled about 200ft downhill all the way into the soccer field. And this isn't one or two holes. There are 15 or 16 holes with steep slopes.
-I was fortunate not to lose any discs, but its a possibility.
-If you miss the skinny fairways you have to make your way down the steep hills. It is very easy to slip or trip. I could imagine a good number of ankle injuries here.
-Difficult to find. No signs point you toward the first tee from the athletic fields/parking area. You have to find a windy, hilly trail and make your way around the tee 1.
-The only restroom is at the athletic fields, near where you park.
-18 basket is far from parking area. You have to wind your way across three fairways and down the hill.
-No water fountains on the course. Bring plenty, this course is quite the hike.
-Awful traffic during Dodgers home games.

Other Thoughts:

-It matters just as much to land the disc flat as it does to throw the correct shot. Rollers abound.
-This was a brutal round for me. Better players could have a good time here.

Chase that disk!!! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 12, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course provides a lot of challenge especially it seems on the front 9 holes. The tees are all marked, and have the distance to the pin. The course seems somewhat well maintained with different pin positions.

Cons:

Once you enter Elysian Park there are no signs whatsoever that point you in the direction to the course. We drove around for 20 min just trying to find the course, and once we did find the course, it took another 10 min just to find the first tee. Playing on a ridge is just as fun as it sounds. One miss throw and you are running down the hill after your disk. We were chasing our disks down hill more then we were actually enjoying the game. This park seem really big why they chose to build this on the steep ridge and not vary the course a little I will never know.

Other Thoughts:

Great views of the city. It was a beautiful day to play a game of DG with my loved one! And we got to meet some nice people playing out on the course.

Pros:

- short and sweet, you can play a round in under an hour
- NEVER crowded. You honestly should be surprised to see more than 2 or 3 other groups there. It's really nice to seemingly have a course to yourself
- spectacular view off of 18, over LA and Dodger Stadium
- teaches you to throw your softer/flexible discs, or learn to adjust to constantly throwing on a slope and avoiding rolls
- decent signs
- fly18 rubber tees are in average shape
- all holes are short, so there are many ace opportunities
- one of the only courses in the LA metro area to have some true wooded holes

Cons:

- long walk from the parking area to tee 1, and longer walk back
- many holes throw EXTREMELY close to other tees, almost to the point of overlapping
- some navigation difficulty between 8 & 9. Follow the stairs up to the road, walk straight across and down the path on the other side. This will drop you in the middle of 9's fairway, the tee will be to your left
- the hills. Many excellent shots will kick up and roll 300' + downhill, which can destroy a score or ruin a fun round
- can be very dusty/dry, so don't be surprised if you get dirty. This also leads to slick tees if they're covered in sand.
- no trash cans or bathrooms on the course, only down in Elysian Park, near the soccer fields

Other Thoughts:

Elysian has multiple positions on most holes, but the positions are hardly ever moved. Also, many of the distances on the signs are wrong, but they still show you a general basket location, so if you're a first timer you can figure it out pretty easily.

Elysian Park is right next to the LAPD Academy... many people worry about 420/drinking on the course because of this, but it really isn't an issue. Just don't partake in the open in the parking lot and be conscious of people around your because the recruits to run in the hills that the course is on.

This course is one of those that usually, you either love it or hate it, and that can depend entirely on how many bad rolls you get off of what would normally be a good shot.

All in all though, Elysian should provide you with a fast, fun round, and teach you about some of the more extreme elevation challenges in disc golf. While most courses with elevation have you throwing up or down the hills, Elysian plays pretty much perpendicular along the slope, so that the fairway always slopes either left or right, never straight up or down.

Elysian is worth checking out if you're going to be in LA for a while, but there are definitely better courses to spend your time at, if your time is limited.

Also, check out what the prior reviewer said about playing on a night when the Dodgers play... he's 100% right, and you should follow his directions to avoid traffic.
